MADDIE HAYES

"Good morning!", Josh greeted me. I totally forgot that he was my classmate and my seatmate.

"Good morning.", I greeted back. It was hard to look at him. I felt really concious around him after what happened during the athletics.

"Maddie, you can just act normally around me.", Josh said. It has been a week since the athletics but all that happened back then felt like all of those just happened yesterday.

"Okay.", I replied. The school bell rang and classes started.

"Alight. The athletics ended and our class won a lot of awards. Now it's time for the 3 days and 2 nights class trip.", our teacher announced. Everyone got excited over it. I didn't like it one tiny bit.

"All must join. When I mean all, I mean all.", our teacher shot a look at me. I kind of shivered a bit.

"When will our class trip be?", Josh asked.

"Starting next werk thursday." Our teacher ten explained everything we needed to know about this trip. Last year, I didn't join the class trip because I thought that it's a bother. Now, I am being forced. Ugh...

"You do realize that this is already the fourth week of the dare, right?", Caren asked me.

"Yeah.", I replied. The three of us were silent at first but later I started to talk.

"Uhh.. guys. I need to tell you something.", I spoke. Both of them looked at me with curiosity plastered on their faces.

"I don't have Maddie's number yet.", I said. Caren shot a death glare at me.

"Lame. The school's "prince" is lame.", Caren said in monotone.

"Hey!", I yelled at her, pissed off.

"This trip is your chance dude.", Luke encouraged me.

"Something tells me that something is wrong.", Caren said as she looked at me suspiciously. I leaned my head on the table.

" Talk about being judgemental.", I said.

"No I'm not. I just have this feeling that you're hiding something from us.", Caren replied.

" Now why would Jilian hide something from us? Besides, one month has already passed and nothing changed between Maddie and Jilian. I think we should focus on that.", Luke explain and Caren nodded. It was lunch break and the three of us decided to eat at the cafeteria. Looking around, I saw Kristine with her friends standing by the exit. I finished my lunch and I headed towards the exit. Passing through, I overheard their conversation.

"Good luck on confessing to Fritz!"

"We'll cheer for you!"

"Thanks.", Kristine replied. So Kristine is planning to confess? But Fritz is already with Emily. So Kristine is going to get dumped?! What do I do? Wait, do I need to do anything? I was walking along the hallway when I happen to see Maddie.

" Hey Ma-" I stopped when I saw Josh walking up to Maddie. Then they started to talk. Since when did Maddie talk to other guys? I took a step back and walked back from where I had gone. I exited the school building and I went to the back of the building.

"This is where Maddie hangs out." I sat down on the grass.

"What are you doing here?" I looked back and I saw Maddie.

"Hangin' out.", I replied.

" Oh. I'll leave then. Bye.", Maddie replied but I grabbed her wrist. She looked at me wonderingly.

"What's wrong?", she asked.

" Can you stay with me for a minute?", I asked her. She nodded and she sat beside me.

MADDIE HAYES

"Are you okay?", I asked. He suddenly grabbed my wrist and asked me to stay with him. There must be something wrong.

" I'm confused.", he said and he continued, "You see, I entered a dare. The dare is, I should make one girl fall for me and when she confesses, I would dump her. In exchange, I am rewarded to be together with the girl I love.", he explained.

" How rude!", I yelled. That dare is not good. The girl would be hurt so bad.

"But the thing is, instead of making her fall in love with me, I'm the one who fell instead.", Jilian said.

" So it's the other way around now. Do you still
l love the other girl?", I asked. Maybe if I asked and listened, I could somehow help him.

"Actually, not anymore because I found a new girl. I fell in love with someone new.", he replied.

" I don't know if I can help you but what I can say is you should stop the dare and be honest. If you explain everything clearly to this girl you're in love with, then everything should be fine. I guess.", I consoled him. I'm not sure if I was helping him though. Jilian smiled at me but I could see his pained expression behind his smile. I guess he was sincerely and seriously in love with this new girl.

"Thanks.", he replied and I nodded. We both stood up since classes were about to start. We were on our feet when we suddenly saw Fritz talking to another girl. I looked at Jilian who was so fixated on the two people.

" Let's go have a look.", Jilian said as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me together with him, nearing the two people talking. We hid behind a bush.

"Hi."

"Hello."

"I'm Kristine, remember?"

"Yeah. I really admire how passionate you are in your academic studies."

"Thanks. I admire how you're working hard as the president."

"Thank you. So you wanted to talk to me?"

"The thing is..." Both of them suddenly became quiet. A few minutes later, Kristine talked.

"Fritz, I... I love you!" Kristine confessed. Her cheeks were flushed with redness and she looked at Fritz with a serious face. Fritz was shocked but he patted Kristine's head.

"I'm sorry. Kristine, I'm dating someone now."

"Since when?!"

"Before the athletics. I'm really sorry but I do appreciate how you for me. I have to go. You better catch up or you'll be late for fifth period." Fritz went inside. Kristine looked down and I could tell she was crying slently. Jilian stood up and approached Kristine. I was just looking at them from behind the bush.

"Jilian! What are you do-" Kristine was cut off when Jilian suddenly kissed her. I was utterly shocked. It was like a bolt of lightning had hit me.

"Julian what are you doing?", Kristine asked.

" I now realize that I still love you Kristine!" Kristine slapped Jilian right on the face. I gasped.

"How dare you?!", Kristine yelled at him and she dashed through the entrance of the building. I looked at Jilian. How pitiful. I approached him and I stood in front of him. I was about to comfort him when he just threw me out.

" Go away.", he said. Hurt, I turned away from him and I went inside the building.

I don't understand myself. I say that I fell in love with Maddie but here I am suddenly kissing Kristine because I felt that I still loved her. This is bullshit. My actions are contradicting my thoughts. Do I really love Maddie? Do I still love Kristine? I'm so confused. I want to escape this dilemma. I checked my contacts and I don't have a single number of the girls who I had sex with. I only had Caren, Luke, Kristine on my phone. I don't have Maddie's number. Oh yeah I shut her out. How stupid could I possibly get? I went inside the building and I met Caren and Luke inside the classroom. Maddie was nowhere to be found. I sighed. Classes ended and Caren and Luke had a date. I was left alone. Girls were looking at me like I was some celebrity. I wasn't in the mood to flirt with them. I had bigger problems in my hands. I was now walking through the streets and I arrived home. I threw my bag on my bed. I should really apologize to Kristine. Without having any second thoughts, I called her.

"Yes?", she answered.

" I want to apologize about what happened."

"Why did you do that?"

"I don't know."

"Forget it. I forgive you but from now on, I will not be your friend anymore." She hanged up. I deserve not to be her friend anymore. I deserve this. I do not have the right to love her anymore. Julian, please fix this situation you are in. Suddenly, Maddie's face came into my mind. Maddie, I'm so sorry.
