Chapter 1: Ambushed

There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory.
—Sir Francis Drake

"I am here off the coast of Panama, where we recovered what we believe the coffin of legendary explorer Sir Francis Drake, who was buried at sea over 400 years ago." Elena Fisher said as she films the weathered coffin then she moves the camera to my twin brother, Nathan, and I as he grabs a crowbar and begins to pry it open.

"Are you sure you two wanna be defiling your ancestor's remains like that?" Elena asked us as she lowers her camera. "You make it sound so dirty." Nathan chuckles. "Besides, I thought you didn't believe us."

"Well, I did do my research and apparently Francis Drake didn't have any children." She said to us. I gave a small smirk and said, softly. "Well, history can be wrong, you know. For example--" Nathan pried the coffin open and he and I start to pull the lid off. "...you can't defile an empty coffin." I said and we set the lid to the side, revealing the empty coffin. "What the hell--?" She said, astonished, and Nathan leans down and pulls out a metal box, opens it up to reveal a diary.

Nathan flicks through the book and starts to laugh. "You devil." He mutters then I walk up to his side and he starts to show me the contents in the book. "Wow..." I whispered in awe. "What is it? C'mon, hold it up--" Elena said but Nathan and I shake our heads at her. "No, no, no - no way. The deal was for a coffin...that's it." Nate said to her as he puts his hand on the camera lens, blocking the view. "Wait a minute, if my show hadn't have funded this expedition you two wouldn't have--" she started but I interrupt her.

"Hey, hey...You got your story, lady." I said to her, slightly annoyed. "Look, Mr. and Miss Drake, both of you signed a contract -" she said, making Nate and I laugh. "I have a right to see every single thing that..." she started to argue but I could see, behind her, some boats heading our way. "Nate....?" I said to him, nervously. "I see them." He mutters then he turns to Elena. "Could you hold that thought?" Then he runs over to a box and pulls out a radio. "Sully? Uh, we got some trouble. Hurry it up." He said as I run over to a case and pull out a couple of pistols.

"Okay, okay - what's going on?" Elena asked us, nervously. "Uh...Pirates." Nathan and I replied at the same time as I tossed him a gun. "Pirates?!" Elena exclaims in confusion. "Yeah, the modern kind. They don't take prisoners... least not male prisoners." Nathan said as he looks between Elena and I. "Oh, thanks bro." I said, with snarkiness.

"Wait, what are you talking about?" Elena asked him then she turns and sees the boats coming. "Uh, sh-shouldn't we call the authorities or something?" She asked us, frantically. "That'd be a great idea, but we don't exactly have a permit to be here." Nathan replied to her. "What?" She exclaims, again, but this time in anger. "Yeah, so unless you wanna end up in a Panamanian jail, we should probably handle this ourselves." I said to her as I dig deeper into the case to find a third pistol.

"Wh-What's worse?" Elena asked us, looking between me and my brother. "You obviously haven't been in Panamanian jail." Nathan said as I go over to her and shove the pistol in her hand. "Do you know how to use one of these?" I asked her. "Yeah, it's like a camera. You just, you point and shoot, right?" She said, nervously, as she sets her camera down to the side and holds onto the gun. I smirked and nodded at her just as the boats come up to us and we see all of the pirates pulling out there guns.

"Here we go." Nathan shouts to us and the three of us go hide behind the crates. "How the hell'd they find us out here?" Elena asked us. "Ah, these guys been tailing my sister and I for weeks. Thought we lost 'em." Nate replied. "So what'd you guys do to piss 'em off?" She asked. "Uh, it's kind of a long story." I remarked just as the pirates fire at us and we responded by firing back.

"These guys don't like you two much, do they?" She asked us. "Less talking, more shooting!" I yelled as we continue the shootout. Then another boat comes to the side and I could see a couple of pirates jumping off of their boat and try to climb up on ours. "They're climbing aboard!" Elena exclaims as Nate and I run over to the other side of the boat. "Oh no, you don't." I said as we beat up the two men and knock them off of the boat.

It seemed endless as more and more pirates climb into our boat, but my brother and I have been doing this kind of thing for a few years now; I guess you could call us professionals....more or less.

"C'mon, Sully, where are you?" My brother exclaims outloud in frustration as Elena and I shoot at a few pirates and he punches some. Suddenly, another boat comes up and starts shooting at us with a machine gun. "Oh my God! Guys - that one's got some type of rocket launcher!" Elena exclaims as Nate and I look over at the boat in fear. "Okay, that's not good." Nate said as they fire the rocket launcher, which hits our boat.

"What's that?" Elena asked and Nate and I look up to see a familiar red and white seaplane flying towards us. "Whooo! All right, Sully!" Nate exclaims as I said. "Took him long enough."

"Oh - I don't think I'm getting my security deposit back." Elena said as she sees parts of the boat start to be engulfed in flames.
"Calvary's here!" Nate said as Sully's plane flies over the pirate's boat. "Oh, thank God!" Elena exclaims as we look around and see the flames were getting larger. "Whole ship's gonna blow. We gotta jump!" Nate shouts as Elena runs to us. "Yeah... Oh, wait!" She said then she turns around. "What are you doing?!" Nate and I asked her at the same time as she grabs her camera. "Okay, okay." She said, breathless, and runs back towards us.

"Come on! Go!" We shouted at her. "All right." She said as she jumps out off the boat, I follow her and so does Nate just as the ship explodes into a million pieces.

"I can't leave you two alone for a minute, can I?" Sully asked once he opens the door hatch of his plane as we swim up towards him. "We had everything under control until they blew up the boat." I exclaimed as Elena starts to swim towards the boat, holding her camera up in the air with one hand. "You all right?" Nate asked her. "Nothing that years of therapy won't fix." She replied as Sully grabs a ladder and sets it down for us to climb.

"Well, if it isn't the beautiful and talented Elena Fisher." Sully said as Elena climbs up the steps. "Flattery will get you screen time." She said as Sully helps her up into the plane. "Yeah, I'm more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy." Sully replied as he holds his hand out to her and I climb up inside the boat. "Victor Sullivan." He greets and he takes her hand and kisses the back of it then the two walk away from the door.

I rolled my eyes, held my hand out to Nate and helped him inside of the plane. "Thanks, sis." He said as he gets inside and closes the door. "Whaddya say we get out of here, before we attract any more attention?" He asked and moments later Sully gets into the cockpit and starts to fly us away.

Nate takes the passenger seat as I go and stand by the doorway. "Well?" Sully asked us. "A little present from Sir Francis." Nate said as he holds up the book. "So you two found the coffin." Sully laughs then he gets a better look at the book in his hand. "Wait a minute - is this what I think it is?" He asked as Nate hands him the book.

"Drake's lost diary. He faked his death, just like we said, Sully. He must've been onto something big." I said, excitedly. "Yeah, well let's just keep that between us." Sully said as Elena hands me the gun she borrowed. "Thanks for the loan, you two. I think I've earned a look at that diary, when we land." She said as I put the gun away. Sully gives Nate a concerned looks while Nate just shrugs and shakes his head.

Later, we landed at the mainland and Elena was outside talking on her phone while Nate, Sully and I stayed in the plane, talking about what we found. "So look, when Drake sailed into the Pacific, he took the Spanish fleet completely by surprise. He captured their ships. He took all their maps, their letters, their journals - and he recorded everything in this diary." Nate explains, quickly, as he points at the book.

"Uh-huh, so this -"

"But when he got back to England, Queen Elizabeth confiscated all of his charts and logbooks - including this one, and then swore his entire crew to silence." I said with excitement, interrupting Sully. Which is funny, normally I'm the more quite and reserved sibling between me and my brother; but when you give me an adventure, a long lost treasure to find and an interesting background history then I'm like a kid in a freakin' candy store.

"Yeah, so this-"

"Y'see, Drake discovered something on that voyage, Sully - something so secret and so valuable, they couldn't risk it getting out." Nate said. "All right, kids, just pretend for a minute that I don't really care about any of that stuff, and cut to the chase, would ya?" Sully said, smiling. "A man only interested in the climax. You must be a real hit with the ladies." Nate jokes. "Never had any complaints." Sully said and I groan in disgust. "Okay...moving on." I said as I take the book and flip through the pages then set it down in front of Sully and showed a hand drawn map to him.

He looks at it and his eyes widen in shock as he sees where the map leads us. "El damn Dorado." He mutters in awe after he chuckles. "He was onto something big, all right." Nate said. "Does it say anything else?" Sully asked. "Oh, so now you're interested, huh?" I asked him. "Yeah." He replied.

"Well, unfortunately no- last page was torn out. I'm telling you, Sully...This is it - this is finally it!" Nate exclaims to Sully. "Yeah...Only, we got one little problem." Sully said and he gestures with his head towards the window. Nate and I look out towards it to see Elena pacing along the boardwalk, talking on her phone.

"Sully, the girl can hold her own. You should've seen her." Nate said to him as I nodded in agreement. "Fine, you go out there and you tell her, We just found the lost City of Gold. Maybe her producer can get it on the air tonight." Sully said to him as Nate sighs. "Oh, come on..."

"Nate...(y/n)---do you two trust me?" Sully asked us, looking between my brother and I.
"More or less." Nate and I replied, shrugging.
"Good, 'cause we're gonna have every two-bit scumbag in the world racing us to this treasure, unless we cut her loose right now." Sully told us. "You're a real gentleman, Sully." I grumbled. "I know. It stinks. She'll get over it." Sully said. Nate and I look at each other, a silent conversation between the two of us (perks of being a twin, I guess) and I sighed. "He's right..." I muttered. Nate looks down in disappointment then let's out a heavy sigh.

"Yeah, I know." He whispers and both of us look out of the window just as Elena turns and waves at us. We give her a fake smile and wave back then she turns her back to us. "Do it now, Sully." I said to him and he runs up to the front of the boat, turns it on and we take off, leaving the poor reporter behind.
