Scares are meant to either make us or break us. Some accept their scares for who they are, while others get broken without repair.

On August 15th, 2001, I was born with a growth in my ear, which made me temporarily deaf.

The doctors said it was too risky to have surgery, so I had to wait it out. For 11yrs of my life, I had remained deaf and had been bullied for it.

It was so depressing for a child. For all I could remember, my childhood wasn't that pretty—books were thrown at me, and I got thrown by things that were so disgusting. I always cried when I came back home. This continued until I was 5.

I didn't feel like coming to school anymore until I met him. I didn't ask him why he started playing with me, to be honest, I didn't want to find out. He made me smile, laugh, angry, upset, and annoyed. He made me feel things I didn't know I could still feel.

On my 11th birthday, my mom died. dad won't talk about how she died or mom anymore, it's like she didn't even exist.

; A few days later we moved and I never saw him again, the funny thing was I never asked him his name, all I have to remember him is his bracelet that has 'D' written on it.

It's been 8yrs on and I and dad am doing fine—We now stay in California, my dad has his restaurant and my uncle now stays with us.

Am a junior at the California University of Pennsylvania; I major in kickboxing, but I love art in general. I have two amazing friends who have helped me through thick and thin and I love jazzing if that's even a word, but above all, I love my life and I never want it to change.

By the way, my name is Egypt Griffiths, and this is my very amazing fucked and drama-free life.
