At dinner, I decided to break the awkward silence that now sets at every meal after my parents have run out of small talk.

I mentioned the party.

Mom thinks it's just what I need, to have some fun, to go out and enjoy myself. We're going shopping tomorrow, I think I might go. She's happier than she has been in a long time, since we stopped being an us.
