Chapter 5: Maybe This is Fate

CHAPTER WARNINGS: None :))

~~~
You were... tired. There was no other way to explain how you felt and to sum up your current life. There was so much going on and so much about to happen. New people to trust and new people to suspect. It was far too much for you to handle and you were aware of that— very, very, aware of that.
You could tell your parents but that would risk them getting in danger so you decided not to. You could still very well deal with it yourself.
Many thoughts circled your head as you drowsily walked to school this morning but your biggest problem was by far Akunoda sensei. You didn't know anything about him. Considering that his daughter is working there he probably knows what goes on there at the very least... or does he? Did 'Rii-chan' tell him? But if he does know why would he refer you over to them? If he purposely did it, why? But then again, he did know Kanamiya, wouldn't he have heard something about that agency? Who exactly was your teacher? Who was 'Rii-chan'?
There were far too many things that you were still unaware of that worried you so very much. Everything seemed suspicious and you felt like you were alone. You were getting quite scared and you wanted to cry but you held it in as you walked to school, taking a deep breath in and out. Leaving that aside for now, there was a much larger issue for you to worry about:
Akunoda-sensei.
How were you supposed to face him? You didn't even know how much he knew about that agency and saying anything extra might backfire if Rii-chan was doing the same thing and keeping it from her parents.
You sighed a little— there was no point in thinking, it's not like you were going to figure it out anyway. You sat down in your seat inside the classroom and blankly stared out the window. The rest of the day went by rather smoothly and that calmed you down a whole lot. Akunoda-sensei was the last person you wanted to talk to and so you spent the whole day hoping that he wouldn't ask you how your shift went, but right when you were packing up your stuff, he came up to you to ask you that exact question.
"What did you do? Did you have fun?" he asked in his usual soft voice.
Was he faking it? Was he genuinely unaware of what was happening there? Has Rii-chan told him anything? How do I respond to this? Thoughts circled your mind and you decided say the truth, well, half of the truth.
"Kanamiya led me around the rest of the building and I got to know a lot about the place! They didn't tell me what I'd be doing exactly yet so I guess my real work hasn't actually started yet..." you said. All of it was true— you were just skipping over a few major points.
"Oh I see..." he said. What is he going to say? Will he mention something that will lead me to some more info about him? "I'm glad you were able to meet Kanamiya there. She's very sweet, you'll get along with her."
Relief suddenly washed over you there was no proof at all but for now you were going to trust him.
"Thank you so much!" you said and walked out of the classroom with all your stuff. The air outside was a little chilly but not in any way cold. Instead of going straight home, you decided to stop by a donut shop and grab a couple of donuts.
"Could I have one plain donut, one chocolate glazed one, one honey dip and two sugar donuts? To go please," and right when you finished ordering, the door to the donut shop opened up and Kirishima came in.
You gasped a little, "K-Kirishima-kun!" you said and he quickly looked over at you.
"(L/n)!" he exclaimed. "W-wow I didn't think I'd get to see you here..."
"Me neither!" you said and smiled back at him.
The two of you continued to talk for a little bit longer until you finally gathered up the courage to ask for his number.
"U-Um we- this is our 3rd time unexpectedly running into each other... we might again so uh..." you started. "Could we trade phone numbers...?"
"Yeah! Of course," he said and your heart rose.
The two of you quickly exchanged numbers and you smiled happily. This is mistake #5 but this was directly related to mistake #4. If you had any idea what Rii's quirk was, you would have dashed out the donut shop the moment he walked in, let alone exchange phone numbers. But there you were, happily exchanging phone numbers with him.
You felt a shiver through your body but you ignored it and continued talking to him.
"How was your interview?" he asked you and your eyes widened, looking a little scared. "U-Um sorry, you don't need to tell me," he quickly said after he saw the look on your face.
"O-Oh, no, no, sorry I was thinking of something else," you lied. "It went well and now I work there part-time."
He smiled. "Congratulations, (L/n)! Are you liking it there?"
"Um... ahahaha... I actually don't think I'm liking it quite yet..." you said vaguely. I'll never like it there, not even if the world ends.
"Aww..." he frowned a little, but it soon turned into a smile. "I hope you'll like it soon!"
"Ahahaha, hopefully..." you said. Ugh, I sort of want to cry... You let out a tired sigh and told him that you'd get going now. As you started to walk home you finally started to think about Rii's quirk.
What could it be? She's so high up in that hero agency and she's also sensei's daughter...
"Sensei's... daughter...?" you said out loud and everything came together. Akunoda-sensei's quirk was the power to see one's location from anywhere at all. Rii's words, "I'm always watching you," were not meant to be taken literally, because in fact, she was listening to everything you were saying. Considering how Kanamiya got caught while talking to you about that agency and how she started coughing, that was probably all Rii's quirk.
You gasped and stood there hoping and hoping that she didn't hear your conversation with Kirishima. You weren't too worried because what are the odds of her listening to everything you were saying? Surely she had other people to pay attention to— but it didn't change the fact that you were worried. If she had heard any of it, things could get really bad for Kirishima and that was the very last thing you wanted to do.
You needed to shut up and keep it to yourself. You took a deep breath in and out and forced yourself to stay calm as you thought your favourite little sentence.
It's okay. I'll be alright.
Rii was sitting in her room at the agency around this time and smiled a soft but sad smile
"Rii, what are you doing?"
"I'm doing my work, leave me alone!"
She let out a tired sigh and looked out the window. "A crush... perhaps?"
(A/N I'm so sorry this is such a late update! I know no one's reading this fic but I desperately wanted to stay somewhat on schedule and it's already Tuesday!
