Chapter 2

Dylan Wilson

 ------------------------------------

Today was a nice day because I met a pretty girl. She was kind too and she even helped me by handing me her towel this morning. It was really cold and even my body was shaking. I didn’t notice her at first but when she placed the towel around me, I looked up and saw her face. She was pretty. We were in the same class in all of our subjects and that was lucky for me. I wanted to know her better so I did a little research during lunch break. She came from Los Angeles and her previous school was Norington Academy. It’s a good public school though. I even discovered that she is a bully and she has a habit of cutting classes. But with all that, she had all straight A’s in all her subjects. She’s really smart and I also learned that she’s a scholar at our school. I’m actually the son of the owner of this school, that would be my dad and my mom is a fashion designer and is currently in Milan for a fashion show.  My dad’s in Malaysia right now having a business meeting with school administrators. He’s planning on building another branch of Wilson High there in Malaysia. Yeah, it makes perfect sense on the school’s name to be Wilson since my family owns it.

“Your bath is ready sir.”, said one of my maids. I was on my robe already so I immediately went to the bathroom. I dipped myself in the bath tub and a lot came into mind and mostly about her, Catherine. She even came to see me during lunch break. She said we were already and “officially” friends but why couldn’t I bring myself together to talk to her? I didn’t talk to her for the rest of the afternoon and I immediately went home. I think she got pissed off because I saw her banged her locker and she was talking to Stacy.

“What can I do to apologize? Should I give some flowers? Geez.. I don’t know how to deal with girls!” Actually, I never had a girlfriend before and I’m not that good people so I didn’t know how to deal with people, especially girls.

“Is there anything you need sir?”, my maid said.

“Yeah. Can I ask you something?

“What is it you ask of sir?”

“What should I do to apologize to a girl I made angry of?”

“Well, it’s good to say sorry sir. To apologize will make things better, especially if you don’t want to lose a friend.”

"Okay. Thanks.”. Yeah she’s got a point there but it’s not that easy since she’s a she and I’m a he. Maybe I should just give her a letter. Yeah, I’ll just apologize to her through a letter. After I took my bath and ate my dinner, I went to my bedroom and took a piece of paper and a pen. I started to write. I didn’t write it formally though. Just a friendly apologetic letter would do, I think.

“Dear Catherine,

I’m sorry about today. I’m sorry that I didn’t talk to you the whole afternoon. I just couldn’t bring myself to talk nor face you. If you got pissed off, I’m deeply sorry. I promise not to do it again. I’m writing this letter because I don’t want to lose my very first friend. Hope you understand how I feel right now. I know my hand writing is bad but I hope you can read my letter clearly. That’s all. I’m sorry. Can we be friends again?

                                                                                                -Dylan Wilson-

I folded the paper in half and placed it in an envelope.

The next day came and it was a Wednesday so it was okay for the students to wear casual clothes. I just wore my black skinny jeans and a blue shirt. I tied my hair up in a bun with some short hair hanging on each side of my head. I looked like some Korean girl with my hair style but I didn’t care. I wore my black converse shoes and wore my backpack. Off I went to school and when I arrived, I saw Stacy leaning against my locker.

“Okay. Spit it out.”, she demanded. I had not other choice but to tell her.

“I got pissed off yesterday because Dylan didn’t talk to me the whole afternoon.”, I stated.

“Just because of that? Maybe he was just shy.”, she suggested. Then she continued,

“Besides, he’s not good around people, especially with girls.”. I didn’t know what to say. After hearing her say that, I felt like I was the one who needed to apologize.

“Oh. I didn’t know about that. Maybe I should apologize.”

“Yeah you should. Now go. We still have thirty minutes before class, early bird.”, she smiled. I smiled back at her,

“Now look who’s talking.”. I turned around and went to the library. It was the first thing that came into my mind. I opened the door and looked around.

I hopped out of my car and Stacy came running to me. I wonder why.

“Dylan! Catherine’s looking for you.”, she said. I wonder why she was looking for me.

“Why?”, was all I could ask.

“She had something to say to you.”, she smiled. She had this childish face and she was cute. But as soon as I got back to reality, I got nervous all of a sudden. Catherine was looking for me because she had something to say?

“She went to the library. Hurry. Class will start in ten minutes.”

“Thanks.”, I smiled at her and did I just see her blush? Anyway, I hurriedly went to the library. I went inside and looked for her. She was nowhere to be found. I sighed and went out of the library. I guess I’ll just talk to her later. While I was walking along the hallway, I spotted her. She was sitting on a bench under the oak tree. I guess she was waiting for me to pass by? Nah, probably not. Well maybe she did but never mind that. There she was. She had her headphones on and her phone in her hand. It was some old phone I didn’t even recognize. Is she that poor? I didn’t care. Right now, I just wanted to apologize to her.

“Catherine!”, I shouted. It was only the two of us there because it was almost time for class. She probably heard me since she took her headphones off and looked at me.

“Dylan?”, she said. I went near her and she stood up.

“Look, I have something to say to you. I – “, I cut her off and took my letter out of my bag. I gave it to her. She looked confused and made a questioned face.

 “What is this?”, she asked.

“You need not apologize Catherine. I’m not good with conversations like this so you’ll know everything once you open that. Okay?”, I said. I hugged her and said,

“I’m sorry.”. It was all I could muster up. She just stood there being speechless. Was I doing to much? Hugging a person I just met yesterday morning, is that weird? I then smiled at her,

“Let’s go. Class is about to start.”. She nodded and we walked together to class. Somehow, I felt kind of happy having doing what I had done back there.

Lunch came and I went to back to the oak tree. I sat and opened the envelope. I could tell it was a letter so he could’ve just said that he wrote me a letter. Oh yeah, he’s not good around people. So I unfolded the paper and I saw his letter. It was cute actually. This is the first time I ever received a letter. Since I am a bully, who would be thinking of writing a letter to me anyway? I guess once he knew that I’m a bully, he’ll probably stay away from me so I’ll just savor this moment of the so-called friendship. I began reading his letter.

                                                                                                -Dylan Wilson-“

I smiled and I thought it was cute of him to write this to me. He could’ve just said this to me. Well, just like what Stacy said, he’s not good with people.

“Apology accepted.”, I whispered to myself as I folded the letter and placed it back inside the envelope. I went to the cafeteria where I met Stacy.

“So, how did it go with Dylan?”, she asked. I just smiled back in reply.

“Looks like someone’s in a good mood.”, she said. I mean who wouldn’t be? He apologized to me and it was through a letter too. Even a bully like me will be happy. He even hugged me and nobody has ever hugged me before. It was a nice sensation and I want to feel it again. But I couldn’t just say all of it to her so I simply stated,

“He finally apologized to me that’s why. You were right, he was just shy.”, I told her. She smiled at me and said,

“That’s good! You see? He was just shy. You should be more conscious of how others feel towards you Catherine. That way, you’ll know how to handle things more properly.”, said Stacy. She was right. I only think about how I feel. I’m a selfish person, I know. My mom and dad used to tell me that. They always told me how bad I am and how ungrateful they are to have given birth to a monster like me. I’ve always loved my parents, even up to now. But i got fed up by them that’s why I ran away. It’s been four years that i didn’t see them and I kind of miss them. History was next and I entered our room and sat in my chair. Dylan came in and sat beside me since we were seatmates.

“Hey Dylan?”, I whispered to him.

 “Yeah?”, he asked.

“Apology accepted.”, I said. He smiled at me and said thanks. I smiled back at him. Michael approached me and said,

“Hi there Catherine. You’ve been hanging out with this geek?”. He made fun of Dylan, my friend. Then he continued,

“You shouldn’t hang out with geeks. They’re stupid creatures created by stupid people. You should hang out with us. You’ll be popular and can go to parties.”. I stood up and faced him. I got pissed off by what he said. Well, back in my old school, I was just like him but now that I’m here, I want to change my old self.

“Look Michael. Thanks for the offer but I’ll stick with my friend.”. Michael got pissed off and went away.

“Thanks for sticking out for me Catherine.”, Dylan thanked me. I smiled at him at sat down.
