Chapter 16
DYLAN WILSON
----------------------------
From the school park to the gym. From the school buildings to the football field. I couldn't find Catherine. Though I'm scared, I needed to do what I had to do as her friend. I need to be there for her when she's feeling down and alone. I just couldn't leave her alone. I need to conquer the fear I'm feeling right now. I sat on a wooden bench and took a deep breath. I turned my head from left to right just hoping I could find her. Just then, I remembered something. There is still one place J haven't searches yet! I stood up and ran as fast as I could. Corners, I turned them. Hallways, I ran through them. The teachers can't really stop me from violating rules since I'm the son of the owner of the school. Though I don't violate school rules, today is an exception. I ran and panted, ran and panted. I finally arrived. I looked forward and saw a crying girl curling herself under the huge oak tree. I slowly approached her. I stopped on my feet when she raised her head. She must've sensed someone was there with her. She looked at me with those sad eyes. She even got more teary eyed when she said,
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do what I did back there. I bet you're scared to come near me.". A wave of guilt hit me. Why did I feel fear? Why did I think that I was scared of Catherine? I'm such a pathetic loser. I shouldn't have been afraid of her. I couldn't help but feel so guilty. I didn't know how to handle situations like this. My mind was blank. I just stared at her back - shaking and trembling. I felt so sorry for her and yet so guilty for what I have did. The wind lightly blew right through us. The grass rustled and the birds chirped. The sun was shining and it was such a happy day yet the people around me are sad and scared. Then I thought of something that I hoped it would work. I hugged her from behind. Slowly, I hugged her tightly. She cried a bit harder this time.
"Cry it all out.", I whispered and she did. I felt her trembling body and her shoulders that shook lightly. Minutes have passed and she was a bit calmer now.
"Are you okay now?", I whispered and she nodded.
"Listen, I'm sorry. Honestly, I was really shocked. It made me fear you. I was seeing the other side of you. I didn't know what to do. Even I was shaking. I'm really sorry. I failed to be your friend. I felt so guilty after seeing you cry and tremble like this. Michael and Stacy feel the same. We're sorry Catherine. We didn't mean to be scared. We were just so shocked.", I explained. I felt two hands lightly gripped my wrist. I was still hugging her from behind so I didn't quite see her face. I rested my head on her right shoulder so I could see her face. I saw that she was smiling a bit. This made me smile too.
"But you still came, right?", she asked.
"Yeah, I did.", I replied in a whisper. She held my wrists a bit tighter this time.
"Thanks Dylan. I knew that you would be there for me.", she said.
"Of course. You're my friend. I'd do anything for you Catherine.", I replied. She turned around and I loosened my hug. I placed both of my hands on each side of her shoulders and we both looked in to each other's eyes.
"Catherine, I may not be the perfect friend, you may not be the perfect friend. Nobody's perfect yet, It is you that makes our relationship perfect. I couldn't ask for a better friend than you. You understand?", I reassured her. I could see a faint shade of pink on her cheeks.
"Yes. Thanks so much Dylan.", she replied. She hugged me and I hugged her back.
"It's what friends do, right?", I asked and she nodded. I pulled away and looked at her.
"Now, show me a smile.", I told her. She looked away. I think she wasn't ready. But I won't accept that as a reason. I'll make her smile. I leaned in closer to her and our lips met. She froze at first but she kissed me back. Every time I kiss her, I just feel so happy. I hope she does too.

I felt so happy. I feel comforted and reassured. I felt Dylan's lips on mine. It was a sweet and lingering kiss. I couldn't ask for anything else. I felt that this was a way for Dylan to tell me not to worry because he'll always be there for me. I felt so happy at the thought of that. Dylan is the best friend that I have and I will never loose any more friends. We pulled away together and looked in to each other's eyes. It was like instead of our mouths doing the talking, we understood each other through communicating with our eyes.
"Thanks Dylan.", I said. He placed a strand of my hair behind my ear.
" You're welcome Catherine.", he replied. Seriously, did Dylan get more handsome lately? Also, he changed a lot ever since we hung out. He became more sociable than before we became friends. Dylan stood up and offered me a hand.
"Come on, you have some apologizing to do.", he said.
"Yeah, I guess I do.", I replied. He helped me stand up. He took his handkerchief out and gently wiped the tears on my face.
"You're more beautiful if you smile.", he said. Geez Dylan. Did you have to say that? I blushed but I still managed to show him a smile.
"There you go.", he said and he smiled back. Gosh, is it me or is Dylan just naturally handsome?

MICHAEL COLLINS
-------------------------------
My feelings didn't change after I witnessed Catherine's other self. I accepted her bad side. If you love the person, you should accept the person's good and bad side. That's what I believe. Catherine is still Catherine. Nothing will change. We arrived at the classroom just in time when Catherine and Dylan came. Everyone in class went silent and looked at Catherine. Catherine took a step forward and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry for what I did back there. I lost control of myself. Don't worry, I will never ever do that again. I promise. I only did that to save my friend, Dylan, from Mark's bullying. I didn't like it and I did what a friend needed to do - defend him one so I did.", she apologized. The people in the room were whispering to each other as I saw Catherine's sad face. One of our classmates then said,
"It's okay. We got scared at first but hey? Everyone's got that other side of them, you know? Also, it was for a friend so it's totally understood by all of us.". Catherine smiled in relief and turned around to look at us.
"Stacy, Michael, I'm really sorry.", she apologized. Stacy approached her then hugged Catherine.
"There, there. We totally understood what you did. It was a natural thing to do. We were all just shocked.", Stacy said and Catherine smiled. Just then, I gasped. Dylan, Catherine, and Stacy looked at me.
"Sorry to break your moment guys but today's the final championship. It will be held this afternoon. Since Mark is injured, we're down with one member.", I got scared not because of the game but because of the coach. He would totally get mad at me. I didn't know what to do.
"I'm sorry. It's all my fault.", Catherine apologized.
"It's not you're fault Catherine. Although you did have a bit of fault.", I replied and Stacy glared at me.
"Michael!", Stacy said.
"The point is, It's not your fault Catherine and I need to find one more member to replace Mark!", I told them. The three of them started to worry too.
"What do we do? I'm not that athletic.", Stacy said.
"How about me? I'm a bit good at football.", Catherine asked.
"Nah. I wish I could but we need boys.", I replied.
"How about Dylan?", Stacy asked. Catherine and I looked at Dylan.
"Sorry, I'm not athletic.", Dylan replied.
"Please Dylan, you're our only hope.", Stacy begged.
"But what about the other students?", Dylan asked. Catherine held his left arm and looked at him. She just.... stared at him. Was she trying to communicate with him using her eyes?
"Fine.", Dylan agreed. We all got worry-free and I sighed in relief.
"Now that's settled, how about we choose a topic for our project? We haven't decided on one yet.", I asked them.
"I have one.", Catherine suggested. We all looked at her eagerly.
"21 signs You have a great Lover.", she said.
"Not bad. Fine, we'll go with that since our teacher is already here.", I told the,. They agreed and we went back to our seats. We were each called to pass our topic. I was the one who passed our topic and our teacher told us that we could already start. Finally, the school bell rang. It was finally the end of classes since we had no classes for the afternoon because of the game. We had our lunch at the cafeteria and ordered there. I went with the popular guys and told the three of them that I'll go on ahead and catch up with them later. Man, I really hope everything will be okay. I hope coach won't mind about Dylan though.
