CHAPTER FOUR
Five was unceremoniously dumped into a wooden chair in the dining room, his already aching body banging against it as he failed to catch himself. He immediately started to get up to jump away but Ben was there almost instantly, with the dagger at his throat and a scowl on his face. Five had to angle his head away, not wanting to get cut again and stared at Ben.
"Your powers don't work unless we turn off the machine that's blocking them." Ben said smugly. "But just in case you get it in your head to steal, break, or power it down yourself," Ben snapped his fingers, waving Alphonso over.
Five turned his head to see what it was that Ben was asking Alphonso to bring him. Alphonso had a flat expression on his face and he was holding something in his left hand. Taking a close look at what he was holding, Five felt his heart fill with dread. It was a collar, but not just any collar; it was a shock collar. Five unfortunately had experience with shock collars from his time in the Commission. It wasn't a very pleasant one; the Commission used those despicable devices as part of their torture tactics.
Five shook his head, looking from the collar to Ben, his eyes wide. "No! Please, anything but that!"
Ben ignored Five's pleas as he took the collar from Alphonso and put it around his neck. The older boy smirked in satisfaction and held up a small black shiny box, with a red button, a silver switch and a dial. Five stared at Ben in horror, realizing that this version of Ben was twisted and sick and he was definitely going to get off on doing him harm.
"All I have to do is press this button and 500 volts of electricity will course through your body, giving you a really bad day." Ben said waving the remote.
"I-I don't—please take it off. I'll do whatever it is you ask of me, just please take this thing off me!" Five exclaimed as Ben backed away.
Ben scowled at him and pressed the red button. Five let out a silent scream as volts of electricity coursed through him. He spasmed in the chair, his arms and legs flailing as he reached up to try and pry the thing off of him. His back arching as the assault continued, he squeezed his eyes shut, wanting nothing more than to hide away from the pain. Every nerve in his body felt like it was on fire. He endured the pain for more than a minute before Ben let up on the button.
Gasping for air and trembling, Five whimpered and slid bonelessly out of the chair, falling onto the floor. Opening his eyes, he blinked slowly trying to get his bearings together. There was something dripping from his nose and when he went to shakily wipe it, his hand came away red with blood. If Five tried anything, he was going to die. There was only so much he could take; the amount of electricity that Ben had sent coursing through him was at best not the worse he's ever had. However, if he decided to raise the the voltage up any higher, it would probably fry his brain.
Five curled into a ball, feeling the beginnings of a bad headache coming on. Trying to catch his breath was rough and as he looked up at Ben, he saw his face glowering at him. Five was trembling from the shock that his body was going in, but more than anything right now, Five was scared. He didn't know what Ben's limits were and he didn't think Ben cared for Five at all. Unlike Marcus and Sloane, who were staring at Ben with disbelief clear on their faces.
"You are in no position to demand anything, Five. Now that I've gotten my point across, what will you not do?"
Five stared at him, his mouth partially open but he couldn't get his mouth to work. His tongue had gone numb and dry and his brain was taking longer to send signals through his body. Swallowing thickly, he stared at Ben, unable to get the words out. When Ben impatiently turned the dial down and pressed the button, Five screamed and pleaded with him.
"I won't try to escape! I won't try to break the device. Just please stop!" Five shouted, a pained squeal coming from him. When Ben released the button, he took a deep breath, believing his relief would be short lived.
"Ben Hargreeves, that is ENOUGH!" The voice of Reginald Hargreeves resounded through the hall, loud and echoing. It made Five's ears hurt. "I raised you better than this! Take your leave at once, all of you!"
Five lay on the floor gasping, his chest rising and falling brokenly; this wasn't the man from his timeline that he and his siblings grew to resent and hate. This man was different. Turning his head to watch the Sparrow siblings leave, he closed his eyes and whimpered as he tried to block out memories from his past. Dark memories.
Reginald walked closer before he crouched in front of Five, the expression on his face one of concern. He reached out to help Five to his feet and the younger boy flinched at the contact, his skin too sensitive to touch at the moment. It felt like his skin had been peeled back to reveal all of his nerves and then some. Once on his feet, Five nearly collapsed as his legs were shaking and couldn't support his weight but Reginald caught him.
"I'm very sorry about Ben and the others. This is not why you're here, Five. You're here, because of what you can do and because I never failed with you. You were my one success from the old timeline."
Five couldn't completely understand what Reginald was going on about, not in that moment. He was on the brink of passing out; all he wanted to do was sleep. He eventually closed his eyes and felt his body go limp as he lost his battle with consciousness.

A soft groan could be heard, followed by a slight twitch of a hand and then green eyes opened, a small gasp escaping as he exhaled. The first thing to hit him was the distinct smell of antiseptics and medical supplies. He figured that he was lying on a bed as the surface he was on was soft and flat. Turning his head to examine the room he currently was in, proved to be moderately painful as his neck felt stiff and sore. He had a headache that felt like he'd gotten dinged on the noggin, his fingers felt numb and a tingling sensation could be felt all over his body.
Five tried to take a deep breath to calm his nerves but it was becoming a little difficult to breathe normally. Ignoring the pain and the tingling sensations, the boy pushed the covers off and swung his feet over the side of the bed in an attempt to stand up. Instead, he had to wait a few seconds for his nausea to go away, closing his eyes momentarily. Opening them once more, he took a look around.
Five was in the Academy's infirmary, Grace, this timelines' Mother for the Academy kids, on the far side of the room, her back turned to him. Keeping an eye on her, the assassin let his feet touch the floor and tried to stand. He didn't have much success as his body was wracked with sudden muscle spasms, causing his legs to shake unsteadily. Unable to stay upright, Five fell to the floor with a loud thud, drawing Grace's attention.
Cursing under his breath, Five struggled to pull himself up by using the bed as leverage. He was lucky he wasn't heavy enough to tip the bed over with how much he was relying on its sturdiness. Luckily, Grace arrived moments later and helped Five back onto the bed. She chastised him briefly for trying to stand and walk on his own, before she disappeared out of the room.
Five wondered what was going to happen to him next. He was trapped here against his will and he'd been tortured with electricity, at this point he wondered if the plan was to kill him. Or torture him enough to force him into utter submission so that he wouldn't be a liability. It didn't make sense however, since Reginald had brought him to the infirmary after their short talk.
I've been blocked from using my powers, I've been kidnapped and I was electrocuted with a shock collar. What's next? Five thought as he stared at the door.
Upon Grace's return, she wasn't alone; Marcus and Ben followed behind her. Five hadn't even noticed she returned as he was staring off into space, deep in his thoughts. When he finally noticed that he wasn't alone anymore, he got this weird look on his face as he eyed Ben. He wasn't sure if he wanted to even be in the same room as him after what he did.
Five observed both of the Sparrows as they didn't look like they knew what to do or how to start off a conversation. "We figured you might be hungry, so we came to bring you to the dining room."
Five scoffed and glared at the two of them, Ben receiving the brunt of it. "I'd rather starve, but thanks for asking." Sarcasm dripped from his voice and Five hoped he sounded as malicious as he felt.
"We just wanted to offer you—"
"You can shove your offer up your ass, I don't want anything to do with you lot!" Five snarled angrily. "So fuck off."
"Look Five, either you can help us make your stay here comfortable or things can get way worse not just for you, but for your family too." Ben spoke firmly.
"Screw you, I'm not hungry." Five muttered, as he rolled over so his back was facing the two Sparrows.
"We'll come back later with some food and tea." Marcus says as he glances at Ben.
Five ignores them, pulling the blanket up over his shoulders, closing his eyes against the everlasting headache he had, which seemed to be getting worse by the minute. He blocks out the two Sparrows within moments, and is sound asleep moments after that.
