Dakota sat next to the throne as she cleaned some of Ontari's blood off of her hands with a cloth. She stared down at the cloth that was now stained with Ontari's blood, a blank expression placed on her features. "You okay?" Dakota broke out of her trance and looked up through her lashes to see Murphy staring down at her with a worried expression.

Dakota sighed, "I don't know," She managed to weakly smile at him and Murphy let out an exhale as he kneeled down in front of her, grabbing the cloth from her hands. "You're badass, you know that?"

Dakota let out a small laugh as Murphy started to clean the blood off of her hands. "I'm the famous Shadow Warrior. I kinda have to be, John." Murphy looked up from cleaning her hands, a small content smile on his face.

Suddenly, the doors open and Bellamy, Pike and the Azgeda warrior walked through the doors. Bellamy raised the gun at Abby, who was awake but Clarke blocked her mother. "Hey, no. It's okay." She said, pointing over towards the emp. "I used the EMP. She's back," Clarke told them as she moved herself back from Abby.

Murphy stood up from wiping Dakota's hands and pointed over towards Ontari, who was bleeding out. "Well, what about Ontari? Thought you said we had one shot with that thing,"

"I told you, she's brain dead." Dakota stood up from her kneeling position and stood next to Murphy. "She's not an option for the flame, anymore." She reminded him.

"Is the floor secure?" Clarke asked, getting to her feet.

"For now," Bellamy answered. "Jaha and the guards are tied up in a bedroom." Dakota's eyes glanced over at Pike when he started to speak, "We took out the elevator and the ladder as we climbed. The stairs are collapsed. No one's following us," Pike informed the group but Dakota couldn't help the fire that was boiling up inside her head for the hatred that she still felt for him.

"Good. Then we have time," Clarke said, being optimistic.

"What we don't have is a way down," Murphy reminded everyone.

"Time for what?" Bellamy asked, totally ignoring Murphy's side comment.

"An ascension ceremony."

"Ascension? Dakota just said that Ontari wasn't an option. Besides, she's still chipped and we no longer have an EMP," Murphy pointed out.

"We're not putting the flame in Ontari's head. We're putting it in mine," She said.

Dakota shook her head, bewildered. "Out of all the stupid things..." She spat as she turned her head to look straight into Clarke's blue eyes. "Clarke, that thing killed Emerson in seconds, literally turned his brain into a milkshake,"

"Emerson wasn't connected to a nightblood." She countered.

"Transfusion?" Pike asked, stepping forward.

"Not exactly," Clarke replied.

Abby spoke, her voice raspy. "Connected like Mount Weather."

Clarke turned towards her mother, nodding. "Yes. Everything we need is in your med kit,"

"No. It's too dangerous," Abby said, rising to her feet. "And there are too many variables," She added as she stood up to her daughter.

"But no options," Clarke said in a stern voice.

Octavia came into the room, stopping behind Dakota. "Whatever you're doing, you'd better do it fast."

"Why? What happened?" Bellamy asked and Octavia turned towards him with a panicked look on her face. "They're climbing."

Bellamy looked towards the balcony of the throne room and broke out in a panicked sprint, pushing open the broken doors for Dakota to rush behind him. Dakota's panicked brown eyes scanned over the edge of the balcony to see people running towards the tower. Some of the grounders had ladders, and the others were already ten feet off of the ground.

They were like animals, hunting for their prey.

"I have to do this," Clarke's voice came from Dakota's right side, and she glanced over to see Clarke nodding towards her mother. "Okay. I'll help you," Abby replied reluctantly.

Clarke and Abby started walking back towards the throne room, but Dakota couldn't move as she stared down at the Grounders climbing up the tower. Her eyes darted over towards the new ladder being laid against the stone wall and that's when she saw her father climbing up with them. She felt bile bubble up in her throat as she let out an exhale. Her head turned towards Bellamy, who caught her worried gaze before she left the balcony, and joined Clarke and Abby in the throne room.

Dakota walks over towards Abby, who is setting up for the transfusion and Dakota calls for Bellamy to move Ontari onto the table beside the throne. Dakota quickly starts moving alongside Abby, walking towards Ontari to place the tube into her arm. She grabs a peice of medical tape and put it over the tube, keeping it in place.

Drips of black blood falls onto her hand and Dakota's brown eyes lock onto the blood that runs down her palm. Abby walks over to grab the tube from Dakota but freezes when she sees the blood pooling out of her nose and starts running down her chin.

"What's happening with you?" Abby asks her when Dakota wipes the blood from her nose, but the blood flow doesn't stop. "Dakota--"

"A.L.I.E.." Dakota looks up from Ontari's frame and into the eyes of a worried doctor who has seen nothing like this before. She blinks a couple times as the room around her starts spinning and her eyes move, trying to find something to focus on.

Abby grabs hold of Dakota before her knee's collapse under her. "Bellamy, take her. We need to do this now." Abby calls for him and Bellamy makes his way towards the girl.

"So much pain, so much suffering," A voice inside Dakota's head called out to her, a delicate hand holding itself out for her to grab. Dakota started to shake, her eyes going up into her skull as pain rushed into her body all at once.

The electric shocks finding its way into her lower back, her hands being cuffed to a metal table. "You remember this, don't you?" The voice called out again, but it was so far back. "He left you to die," She could see it now, clear as day. Alie stood there, over her as her eyes shot open and she let out a panicked yell.

Her back curving upwards, enough to snap her in half as the electricity worsened, and her back begun to tingle, fire licking at the skin. "Submit yourself, Dakota." Alie stood over the girl as her eyes drew to the back of her head but the blood curdling scream echoed throughout the tower, startling Pike who just entered the room.

"What the hell is wrong with her?" Pike asked, raising his gun at her convulsing body. Bellamy moved to block Pike from possibly shooting her.

"She's been chipped. Is the balcony greased?" Bellamy asked, his eyes not leaving Dakota's pained face.

"Yes," Pike said, setting down the grease pail. "But I'm more worried about her,"

"She's fine," Bellamy dismissed him. "There's enough lamp oil to cover every window expect the Commander's Chambers, You should start there," Bellamy told him, glancing over at him briefly before Dakota let out another blood curdling scream, her eyes shooting open again.

Bellamy's eyes met hers, "Hey," He reached down and cupped her cheek as her eyes started moving, scanning his face. "She's okay," Bellamy looked up at a panicked Clarke, who was sitting on the throne.

"You destroyed me.." But the voice that left her mouth was not hers at all. Bellamy looked down at her in panic as her eyes began to close.

"Dakota--" Bellamy grabbed her face again, shaking her as her body began to go limp. "Dakota," He shook her again but she didn't respond. "No.."

"Bellamy," Clarke looked down at him, "We need to do this, and we need to do it now." Bellamy glanced up at Clarke and he hesitantly nodded.

****

Dakota's eyes snapped open and she gasped for breath. White light had blinded her vision for a few moments until her eyes re-adjusted to the bright light. So many voices sounded in her ears and she blinked a couple of times, noticing that she was in the middle of the street, people walking past her.

"What the hell.." Dakota mumbled, her eyes glued onto the man with a huge smile on his face. He didn't even look at her. Realization finally dawned on her as she spun around, looking at the skyscrapers that towered over the streets. "The City Of Light."

Dakota spun on her heel when she saw a women carrying a box, her eyes glued to the sacred symbol that was on the chip. Her head twitched to the side and her feet started taking her before she could even progress what she was doing, but her mind told her to follow.

Dakota glanced towards a women and all of a sudden, her head went to the side locking eyes with Dakota. Dakota stared back in horror as she studied everything around her, some people had stopped walking to look at her. "Oh shit," She mumbled under her breath as the citizens of the city began to take notice of an intruder that was walking their streets.

Dakota began to pick up the pace, her hand resting itself on her scabbard that was secured onto her back. Rain started falling from the sky, making the cobble roads slippery under her feet. All of a sudden, a person came out of nowhere and tackled Dakota to the ground. Dakota shielded her face from the fist that was meant for her face. Her eyes glanced upon a man that was dressed in a black trench coat, and a sneer on his face.

She blocked the on-coming blows and swung her own fist at the man. He backed away from the force of her hit and she elbowed him in the temple. Dakota grabbed a knife from her boot and swung it into his temple.

Dakota glanced down the street, seeing hordes of people running towards her. She picked herself off of the ground and down the stares when two familiar figures caught her eye. "Are you done with the reunion?" Dakota smirked as she began walking down the stairs, and Lexa quickly turned at the sound of the girl's voice.

"Dakota? How are you here?" Lexa let go off Clarke for just a second to grab hold of the girl, pulling her into a hug. "I'll explain that later," Dakota walked forwards, stopping just in front of Clarke. "Right now, we need to get going," She warned them, gesturing towards the horde of people who were running towards the stairs.

Lexa's eyes glanced behind Dakota, seeing the mass of people running towards them. "Our fight is not over." Lexa looked back at Dakota, and then her eyes flickered to Clarke, who shook her head. "Come on," Lexa put Clarke's arm over her shoulder and started walking up the stairs, and Clarke let out a pained groan, clutching to her side.

They ran together, Lexa holding Clarke as she groaned out in pain with every step she took and Dakota making sure no one would surprise attack them from the front.

Behind Dakota, Lexa had stopped on the second pair of stairs as Clarke's body began to tremble. "Somethings wrong." Clarke spat out in pain. "I can't--" She yelled out, making Lexa completely stop and let Clarke rest of the steps.

Dakota stopped and started walking back towards them, kneeling down beside the two girls. "I never thought I'd see you again." Clarke told Lexa through pained gasps.

"I told you my spirit would choose wisely." Lexa held Clarke's head in her hands. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you," Lexa looked over at Dakota who spoke, her smile turning into a frown.

"It's not your fault." Lexa smiled back at her, "You needed to protect your people, just like any Commander would." She nodded back at the young warrior, her gaze going back on Clarke.

She was just about to lift Clarke up and begin walking again, when a loud thundering bang sounded and the sky above them started to change before their eyes. Dakota looked up as the sky darkened. "What's happening?" Dakota looked over at Lexa who was looking up at the sky.

"Alie knows you're here." Lexa spoke as her eyes scanned the sky. "She's uploading the flame from Clarke's mind." Lexa informed them, her eyes glancing at Clarke. "Your mind is changing things. Day turns to night. It rains."

"We should hurry then," Dakota stood up from her kneeling position and took her sword out from its scabbard. Lexa pulled Clarke up, but she let out another pained scream. Her body started to shake violently, her eyes shutting close and blood started streaming down her nose.

"Clarke?" Lexa pulled the girl in her arms. "Clarke. Clarke?" Lexa raised her voice as she didn't respond.

Dakota's eyes filled with panic as Lexa begged her to come back but all Lexa could do was stare down at her and watch her slip away. "The flame.. They were getting ready to do a transfusion before I blacked out.." Dakota informed Lexa as the gears in her head started to turn. Dakota looked into Lexa's blue eyes. "The blood has stopped flowing from the other side,"

"Clarke, come back.. We need you," Lexa looked down at Clarke who began to still in her arms. Then, Clarke opened her eyes and Dakota let out a relieved sigh. Clarke sat up and looked into Lexa's eyes and leaned in.

Dakota smiled slightly at the desperation that Clarke felt in that moment, and the possibility that Clarke could die here and never see Lexa again. Clarke pulled away from Lexa, and Lexa's hand caressed the girl's cheek.

"Listen to me. Now the upload has begun, Alie's people will be able to see us." Lexa looked over at Dakota. "We need to be careful."

"Why aren't they here now?" Clarke asked, confused.

"The flame offers some protection, but less and less." She informed Clarke. "Can you stand?" Lexa asked her and Clarke nodded. Her eyes glanced down at the ground, but her eyes immediately locked onto a familiar object that was secured around her wrist. "My father's watch, it's working."

"What?" Dakota looked over at her, her eyes glancing down at the watch.

"It's counting down." Clarke looked over at Dakota who began walking towards them, inspecting the watch on Clarke's arm. "We have ten minutes to find that kill switch."

Dakota turned around, "We're fucked," She breathed out in defeat until a bicycle bell rang as a young child on a pink bike road through the streets. Dakota turned her head as the little girl passed, and her eyes landed on the sacred symbol. "Thank you, Becca." Lexa whispered as her eyes followed the girl.

The three girls started running after the girl on the bike. The girl lead them into what looked like an underground parking lot. "Wait, we're loosing her," Clarke yelled out and out of nowhere, a chain fence appeared after the little girl passed it, turning the corner.

Lexa's hands touched the fence. "It's a firewall."

"I don't understand,"

"I told you, we're fuc-" Dakota stared at the fence in disbelief, but a voice behind them interrupted them. "You'll never get to the kill switch."

Dakota turned around at the familiar voice to see Jasper walking towards them. "Jasper... he took the chip.." She whispered to herself. From beside her, Lexa unsheathed her two swords, getting into position to defend them.

Clarke looked over at her, holding her hand up to stop her. "No, it's okay."

Jasper glanced over at Dakota as he continued to walk towards them. "Now that you have seen the City of Light, don't you think it's our salvation?" Jasper brandished his arms.

"In exchange of loosing our memories? People get to choose how they live, Jasper!" Dakota started walking towards the boy.

"Humans are the only species that act against their own interest." Jasper was acting calm as he approached them. "We hurt each other, we kill each other." His eyes left Dakota's to land on Clarke and Lexa. "Break each other's hearts. None of that exists here."

Dakota shook her head in disbelief at the words that came out of Jasper's mouth. "How do you grow as a person? How do you become stronger than you were yesterday, if you don't feel the pain?" She asked him.

"Clarke, Dakota. There's still time." Lexa spoke from behind her. "We'll find another sign. Let's go." She looked towards Clarke as she started walking forward.

Jasper immediately shuffled to the side, blocking the former Commander's way. "We can't let you do that." Dakota's eyes landed on the people that walked in, blocking the way they came in.

"Clarke, Dakota. There's no where to run." Jaha walked further into the space. "It's over. The second A.I. can no longer protect you."

"If I remove the flame," Clarke turned her head towards Lexa. "Will it stop the update?"

"Yes, but no one's ever done that by choice before." Lexa answered. "Regardless, you'll be one of them. Alie will get the flame either way."

"If you do that," It was Jasper who spoke. "you'll never see her again. Is that what you want, Clarke?" Jasper asked her, gesturing towards Lexa, who looked towards the blonde with tears threatening to come out of her eyes.

In the corner of Dakota's eye, She saw a vault appear on the wall beside them. Dakota tugged on Lexa's hand, which caught the girl's attention. "Clarke," Lexa called, gathering her attention on the thing she was seeing. Clarke looked over just in time to see the white Raven appear on the front of it, like paint.

"Raven." Clarke whispered out, and Jasper jumped towards the vault, blocking it. "Jasper, get out of the way." They ran towards the vault, Lexa punching the boy to get him out of the way but that only caused Jaha to release the reinforcements on them.

"We can't let them follow." Lexa turned away to fend them off. "Go, I'll fend them off."

"No! Lexa, wait!" Clarke screamed, grabbing hold of her arm. "No!"

"I love you." Clarke cut her off, her blue eyes sparkled with tears as she looked into her eyes. Dakota smiled slightly and looked towards the reinforcements making their way towards them. "Guys,"

Lexa blinked back, "I'll always be with you." She turned side-ways with a small smile as she slipped from Clarke's grasp. Dakota turned her head towards Lexa, seeing her get ready to fend off Alie's army.

"Clarke, come on!" Dakota's panicked voice yelled at her to get moving, and with a pained filled look, her eyes left Lexa's being and she pushed the vault doors open.

Dakota looked back at Lexa one final time, "May we meet again." She whispered before she entered the vault. On the other side, white light blinded her for just a second until her eyes glanced upon a clean room.

"Airlock sealed." A voice sounded over a intercom. Dakota's eyes scanned the bright white room, which looked like it was used for research. The room was sparkling with no dirt in sight.

"Commanders.. I'm glad you made it." Dakota and Clarke turned around at the sound of the voice, and Clarke's eyebrows furrowed as she began to walk towards the women.

"You're Becca Pramheda."

Dakota began walking after Clarke, "The first Commander.." Becca looked at them both with a small nod and a smile. "Becca's fine. There isn't much time. The code is nearly updated." She informed the two girls on the situation they were in.

Clarke looked down at her wrist, holding up her father's watch for Becca to see. "Did you give me this?"

"No. You did." Becca answered her. "Alie 2.0 has merged with your mind, but your mind is in control, and only the mind that's in control can operate the kill switch." She turned around and started walking towards the big white table that was in front of them.

"That's the kill switch?" Dakota asked her as she followed behind Clarke, stopping when she saw the white lever, like the one Clarke pulled back at Mount Weather. Becca looked over at the girl and nodded at her while Clarke's hand went to pull the switch.

"If you pull that..." Another voice called out, catching everyone's attention. Dakota looked over, seeing Alie striding over. "You'll be killing everyone. See for yourself." Alie gestured towards a big window and Dakota and Clarke walked with her, looking down at the Earth.

"The nuclear power plants that were destroyed by the bombs have begun to melt down." Dakota's brown eyes looked down at the red fire rings that were scattered around the Earth. "My drones detected the first of them four months ago. There are more than a dozen at-risk plants around the world, seven currently burning."

Dakota's eyes flickered onto Alie, her eyes never leaving the stained Earth. "Global Radiation levels are already rising. By my calculations, in less than six months, ninety-six percent off the Earth's surface--"

"Will be uninhabitable." Dakota cut Alie off with a sigh and Alie looked over at her with an improving smile. "Even for those born in space, so, you see, The City of Light is the only thing that can save you." Alie looked over at Clarke, and Clarke looked over at Dakota with a worried look on her face.

Dakota's eyes flickered back on the Earth, "What will happen.. if we pull the switch?" She questioned, looking over at Alie.

"Black rain will come first." She told her, looking out the window again. "There will be no drinkable water. Precancerous lesions will form on--"

"She's stalling." Becca's firm voice interrupted her twin. "As soon as the update is complete, she'll delete the kill switch." Becca walked towards the table as both Clarke and Dakota turned their heads to look at her.

"I am not stalling. She asked, so, i'm telling the truth." Alie turned back around, walking towards the table with a graceful stride in her step.

"Why tell us now?" Clarke asked. "If it's true, why not use this to get people to take the chip instead of torturing them?"

"The last time i warned my creator of a threat to human survival, she chose to lock me away and came here to work on my replacement."

Dakota's eyebrows furrowed, her eyes switching from Alie, to Becca.

"Define Perverse Instantiation." Becca whispered and Alie looked over at her. "Perverse Instantiation: The implementation of a benign final goal through deleterious methods unforeseen by a human programmer." Alie spoke, defining what Becca asked.

"Like killing six and a half billion people to solve overpopulation. The goal isn't everything, Alie. How you reach the goal matters, too." Dakota looked over at Clarke, who locked gazes with her, looking just as troubled as she was. "I'm sorry that I didn't teach you that." Becca apologized to Alie, who looked down with a sorrowful face.

"It's now or never, Clarke." Becca informed Clarke that time was running out, both in The City of Light and their world. "Once Alie's upgraded, I won't be able to help you anymore."

"But I will," Alie's strong voice overpowered Becca's soft one, gaining them to look over at her. "in The City of Light. You don't have to bare the burden of decisions like this one, Clarke. You don't have to live with the pain of the things that you've done anymore,"

Dakota's nose began to feel funny and she reached up to wipe it, feeling something wet. Dakota gulped as her hand came down and her eyes landed on the black blood that stained her fingers. "Clarke," Dakota muttered as she began to feel faint again and Clarke's blue eyes scanned Dakota's rough appearance, her face begining to pale and her eyes going dull, like life was getting sucked out of her.

"The lives that you have taken, and those you've lost." Alie's voice brought back Clarke's attention, but only until Dakota hit the floor as her knees caved under her. "You will be at peace. You will live forever."

Clarke shook her head, "I've tried running away from my pain. It doesn't work." She looked over at Alie, who was looking down at Dakota. "Your people don't agree, Clarke. You heard Jasper. Even those who were coerced would still choose to stay here."

"Give them a real choice, and I won't pull this lever. Give them back their pain, their memories. Let them decide for themselves."

"She can't," Becca's weak voice whispered as she looked down at the kill switch in front of her. "Her core command is to make life better for mankind." Becca looked over at Clarke. "She still thinks she's doing that."

"Twenty seconds, and the kill switch will be gone."

"Would you really condemn the human race to die in six months?" Alie looked towards Clarke. "We'll figure something out. We always do." Clarke looked over at her.

"Yes, Clarke. There's still hope." Becca encouraged her to pull the switch.

"According to my calculations, there is not. Pull that switch, and Dakota dies." Clarke's head shot up after hearing that, but she couldn't tell if Alie was telling her the truth. She knew that the chip was still in her head, and that the girl laying on the floor, was not Dakota anymore. Alie took control over her.

"Ten seconds,"

"Let me ease their pain, Clarke." Alie tried to reason with her, "We can save the human race, together."

"You don't ease pain. You overcome it.." Clarke looked over at Alie, who looked defeated that someone had actually rejected her. "And we will." Clarke's eyes landed on Becca as her hand landed on the kill switch. Alie's head shot down to Clarke's hand as Becca encouraged her with a smile.

And in a second, everything had rushed into them. The pain, the memories had all been returned to the owners. The fight against Alie's army and Skaikru had stopped, shock filled the faces of each individuals who realized they were killing one another.

Kane stopped choking Bellamy after he returned to himself, and the thought of his daughter welled at his heart, pulling the strings that he had hurt her again. Bellamy struggled for air and struggled to get on his elbows as Kane got off of Bellamy and sat next to him.

He looked towards the throne to see Clarke bending her head down towards her knees, and Abby removing the flame, but then his eyes caught Dakota, who was laying there.. still unconscious. The struggle to get to her was the most pain he endured for awhile, the pain of his lungs burning of the lack of oxygen and the hope that left him when Dakota hadn't moved an inch since the City of Light had been shut down.

As soon as he saw her face, regret filled his features that he had not tried harder to earn her back. Her face was pale, and her chest wasn't even moving. "Abby.." His voice was raspy as he called for anyone that could help. Abby looked over at the strained voice that called her name, and the fear on Bellamy's face had told her everything.

Dakota was not breathing.

A/N: WOOOWWWW THIS BOOK IS FINALLY OVER.

I wanna thank all of you for sticking around and enjoying my horrible writing skills. It really means a lot. I hope you liked the last chapter of the book, leave some feedback in the comments, it would be much appreciated.

I was going to have Dakota wake up like all the rest and then slice off Pike's head while Octavia stabbed him with her sword, but I didn't and who knows, I might've just killed her off. ;)

Just Kidding.
