The smell of sea salt and fish filled the air as Dakota's eyes looked around. The blue water seemed to stretch for miles and there wasn't any way off this oil rig without a boat. Some of Luna's men had lead the small group where a fire was set up and a young woman was telling some sort of story, while everyone was sat down in front of a fire.

Dakota sat there with her knees tucked into her chest as A.L.I.E looked around. "I've never seen this place before," She said in an elegant voice and turned to look at Dakota who had a sneer on her face. "Tell me your location, and I can help you."

Dakota snorted and shook her head. "You mean, help destroy the world." She muttered under her breath which caught the attention of Octavia. The young warrior looked down at her friend. "She's here?" Octavia asked, which caught everyone's attention.

Dakota nodded. "Prancing around in her little red dress and trying to find our location?" Dakota looked over at everyone in the group. "Yeah, she's here and she's looking at every individual like they're a treat." Dakota turned her head to look at a blissful A.L.I.E.

A set of doors opened and Dakota turned her head to look at the curly-haired Night-blood. "She's here. Maybe she changed her mind." Bellamy stood up along with Clarke and started walking towards Luna.

"The boats return at nightfall. Then you leave. Forever." She stated, her gaze sweeping over everyone.

Clarke sighed in irritation. "Luna, let us explain." She tried desperately.

"I said no."

"No, you need to hear this!" Bellamy said sharply, stepping towards Luna. Her guard moved forward, putting a hand on Bellamy's chest, indicating that he needed to step back. "There is something out there that is going to destroy us all."

"Whatever it is, it can't reach us here." Luna murmured, brushing past. Dakota turned her head to watch Luna advance towards Octavia. She sat down next to her and Jasper got to his feet, moving to stand and walk towards the girl telling the story.

_________

"Jasper's actually smiling," Bellamy's head was turned around to glance over at Jasper, who was talking to the storyteller. Dakota looked over and saw the usual solemn boy with a grin on his face, and Dakota felt happy that Jasper had managed to find a moment of peace after what he went through. Dakota returned her gaze towards the fire, but stopping on Clarke who was staring over where Luna was cuddled close to a man. Dakota watched as the man stroked her hair, while Luna looked up at him with a small smile on her face.

"Clarke, let it go," Bellamy turned his head after observing Luna himself. Clarke turned her head towards Bellamy and shook her head. "We can't just leave."

"It's not like we have much of a choice." Octavia said as she stared blankly at the fire in front of her.

"Maybe we do," Clarke suggested, and something that was leaking through her tone made Dakota look up at the girl in suspicion.

"What are you talking about?" Bellamy asked.

"I'm talking about putting this," She held out the flame, "into her head without asking." Dakota looked at her incredulously, shaking her head at the same time as Octavia answered. "No way, Clarke. This isn't like Emerson. He was trying to kill us." Her voice was a furious whisper.

"You don't think I know that?"

"Clarke, I get it. You always want to be the hero. But you can't force her to fight with us if she doesn't want to," Dakota tired to get Clarke to realize that her plan was down right crazy.

"Clarke," Bellamy tried. "We don't have to do this. We can fight and go back to Arkadia. We arm up," He tried to assure her.

"Fight who?" Clarke shot back, "It's an army of our own people. I don't like this any more than you do. But if Raven's right and the code on this thing can stop A.L.I.E.. give me a better idea," She pleaded. Dakota sighed, knowing that there wasn't a better idea, and Bellamy looked at her. "We'll stay here. It's the only way they'll leave you alone with her," Bellamy concluded, signalling that this was the new plan.

"Even A.L.I.E. gives people a choice," Octavia growled when Clarke went to leave.

"We gave Luna a choice. She said no," Bellamy replied.

"Want to know what A.L.I.E. does when someone doesn't take the chip?" Dakota glanced over at Octavia. "She tortures them until they cave." Dakota returned her attention to the blazing fire, and leaned her head onto her knees.

______

The day mostly consisted of sitting around the fire in silence and waiting for Luna. When night finally rolled around, Luna's men came and got the group, leading them back to the same box they had arrived in.

"Where's Jasper?" Bellamy inquired, glancing around for him.

"Saying good-bye to his new friend." Octavia muttered back, avoiding her brother's gaze. Dakota and the others stopped in front of the metal box, waiting for the doors to open and to be shipped off of the oil rig.

"Sorry, Cap." Luna looked at the grounder man as the doors opened and they walked onto the rig. "You gotta take them back." She grabbed the bag of supplies. "Your gear. You get your weapons once you land." Her men tossed the bags into the box and Luna's men roughly shoved everyone inside the crate, expect for Clarke, who was still talking to Luna.

"The Flame?" Clarke eyed her expectantly and Luna pulled it out of her pocket and held it up in front of her. "Remember, Clarke. The path of violence is a choice." She murmured, her dark eyes observing the girl.

Suddenly, Dakota felt the urge that danger was around the corner, and she started looking over her shoulder and at the Grounders that came out of the metal crate.

"There it is," A voice echoed deep within her mind.

Clarke scoffed under her breath. "When the choice is fight or die, there is no choice." She corrected haughtily, reaching for the flame.

"A.L.I.E's here!" Dakota yelled out, but it was too late as Clarke and the others were shoved into the crate roughly before Clarke could grab the flame.

Octavia was the first one to run towards the entrance of the crate and bang on the metal doors. "They took the flame!" Octavia exclaimed, "They're locking us in!"

Clarke banged on the door. "Hey! What is this!"

"Luna's people are attacking her," Dakota said, seeming to realize what exactly was happening. "Alie found a way here." She looked over at Bellamy.

Octavia kept banging against the wall and shouting for someone to let us out but it was no use, everyone was gone. "How did A.L.I.E. even find this place?" Octavia questioned.

"There was a drone at Nylah's. She must've followed us looking for the flame and now she has it," Bellamy said, remembering what had happened that night. "She's going to put the A.I. in Luna."

"She'd have to chip her first." Dakota muttered, "She didn't want the flame, what makes you think she wants the A.I.?" Clarke's gaze snapped over in Dakota's direction in realization.

"If Luna's chipped before she gets the A.I., A.L.I.E.'s gonna know everything. We'll never be able to stop her." She explained, standing up from the ground and moving towards the door again. "We can't let that happen." Clarke started banging on the door again, shouting for someone to help them, but Dakota sat back down against the wall, knowing that no one would help them.

After awhile, everyone just gave up. Darkness consumed the box and the only light that shined in, was Octavia's flashlight. "This place was safe until we got here," Octavia reminded everyone bitterly. Suddenly, A loud clang sounded from the door, making Dakota jump up at the sound.

Her eyes squinted as her gaze fixed on a figure that pulled open the door before it backed away and fell limply to the ground. Dakota gasped and rushed forward and crouched next to the figure that she discovered was a girl. She observed her face and realised that this was the same grounder who Jasper had taken a liking to.

"Machine room," she gasped out, blood pouring out from her lips. "B-b level." The girl closed her eyes as she took her last painful breaths, before her head hit the ground as her spirit came from her body. Dakota sighed and stood up.

"Lets go," Clarke said after she placed a comforting hand on Dakota's shoulder. Dakota turned her head to look at Clarke's placed hand and got up onto her feet before running towards the machine room.

The closer the group got to the machine room, the more they heard the commotion that was caused from inside. Octavia was the first one to get to the door, she kicked it open while ignoring Bellamy's pleads to be careful. Dakota froze in place as she observed the chaos that the chip had caused.

Luna was crouched over the body of her lover, Derrick, holding him in her arms as she sobbed. Her cries were haunting, echoing in the back of her mind and how much pain that was let out from her cries. Octavia rushed over to a tied up Jasper, who was a little bruised and beaten while Bellamy had to check up on a little crying girl on the floor.

_______

Dakota stood next to Bellamy as she watched the Boat Clan prepare for the funeral ceremony to honour the fallen. People were strewn about throughout the room, chatting among the warn candlelit room. Dakota had found herself wondering how these people could just forget the war that was brewing on the land, how they could abandon human beings and not help fight for them. She could not understand how Luna could just quit while knowing that so many people were counting on her to help save them.

"Any one of them could be chipped and we'd never know." Bellamy muttered as he looked throughout the crowd.

"If they are, they'll make their move before we put the flame in Luna. Stay sharp." Clarke reminded the group, glancing over at Dakota with hope in her eyes.

"The ceremony is about to begin." Luna said as she approached the group of Sky People. A girl came up to the group, offering them a goblet that was filled with wine. Dakota grabbed one and thanked her before turning back to observe Luna. Her face was set in a deep frown and her eyes seemingly black in the low light. As she turned to leave, Clarke stopped her.

"Luna, wait. I'm so sorry." Clarke said softly, "But now you see what we're facing. An enemy that will do anything to win. She won't stop until she had everyone."

Luna's eyes trailed over the group, and her gaze fixed back onto Clarke before holding up the chip in her hand. "People I love died today. Needlessly. At my hand. I can't let that happen again." She turned around and held her goblet up. "As we prepare to give our brothers and sisters to the sea, we honour their lives. From water, we are born, to water, we return," She announced, her people chanting the Tridedasleng phrase after her.

Dakota was hesitant about drinking whatever was in the cup, but once Clarke and the others decided to drink without hesitation, she didn't give it anymore thought as she pressed the cup to her lips and drank.

Luna turned back towards the group, and Clarke took the opportunity to try to talk her into taking the flame willingly. "If we're going to do this, we have to hurry. Alie will send reinforcements. And we have to find someplace private to perform the ascension."

"You believe that to defeat an enemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing," Luna stated, and by the tone of her voice, Dakota knew this wasn't going well. "How is that different than blood must have blood?"

"Wait a second, Luna," Octavia protested, "you can't just..." she suddenly started swaying before falling to the ground.

Dakota heard a thud to her right, and saw Bellamy fall to the ground next, Jasper following after him. Dakota looked down at the red liquid in the cup, frowning when she had realized that it was the drug that was used to get them here in the first place. "Oh no," Dakota groaned as her cup fell to the floor, breaking the glass and spilling the crimson liquid over the floor. Dakota's vision went black and she hit the ground.

Dakota's eyes fluttered open, only to meet with a blue sky covered in clouds and the sound of water crashing up against a beach. She groaned quietly as her head still pounded against her skull. Her hand instantly went to her shoulder, which she found her weapon to be present once again.

Dakota glanced down the beach, looking over at Clarke, who was beginning to stir awake. Dakota leaned up onto her elbows while her eyes met Bellamy's. He already had his gun in his hand, keeping watch as the others started to stir awake. Octavia and Jasper began to stir as Dakota moved to stand up and move beside Bellamy who was staring out at the sea, fog rolling in just off shore.

Clarke walked forward, standing next to Dakota, and Octavia standing next to her brother. "Now what?" Bellamy asked, looking past Dakota to Clarke.

"Good question." Dakota mumbled as she hopelessly started out to sea.
