Dakota stared into the roaring fire, flames flickering and dancing around. Octavia was kneeling beside her with a scowl on her face while her fingers pressed down on her temple. The heat of her gaze was competing with the orange dancing flames. Dakota knew the pain of what Octavia was feeling right now. Having someone that you love dearly killed right in front of your eyes, and then having someone else you love unconditionally playing a part of that death. She knew that all so well. Dakota had watched her own mother die, she watched as her father pressed the button to float her into the abyss of outer space.
It took her three years to fully forgive her father for what he had done and she knew that what Octavia needed was time to heal, and to move past the point and accept that Lincoln is no longer physically by her side. But she also knew that Octavia wasn't ready to forgive Bellamy for what he had done, in her eyes, he was as much to blame for Lincoln's death as Pike was.
The conflict inside her head was brought to an abrupt end when Octavia brashly stood up and began to pack a bag. Dakota knew it was only a matter of time before Octavia began to crack and attempt to leave the cave.
Bellamy was quick to notice his sister's movements and he jumped up immediately to stop her. "O, wait. You can't just leave." Bellamy stated as she began to walk over.
Octavia didn't even bother to look up at him, she continued to pack her things into her bag. "Watch me."
"You heard what Jasper said on the radio. Arkadia is not safe."
"What Jasper said sounds insane." Octavia finally looked up at her brother, "Pike's gone. I can handle myself. Grounders burn their dead."
Bellamy nodded at her, understanding that she wanted to bury Lincoln's body. "I know that, and then what? Where you gonna go?"
"You don't get to ask that."
"What more do I have to do to prove that I'm on your side?" Bellamy asked Octavia.
"Bring Lincoln back," She snapped, pushing past her brother. That's all she truly wanted. She wanted Lincoln back.
"Turning Pike in does not make you one of the good guys, Bellamy. You did that to save me and Dakota, not because what you thought Pike was doing to the Grounders were wrong."
"The Grounders were starving us out," Bellamy turned around to face her.
"Because you massacred an army that was sent to protect us." She shouted in retaliation, stepping closer to him.
"That army could've attacked us at any time, and you know it."
"But they didn't attack. You did that. You were hurting, and you lashed out because that's what you do. There are consequences, Bell. People get hurt. People die, your people. Monroe's dead. Lincoln is dead." She stormed out of the cave and Bellamy sighed and looked over at Dakota who was staring back with just as much fire in her eyes as Octavia had.
"I didn't kill him, Dakota-" Bellamy shook his head, he couldn't accept that Octavia completely hated him, and blamed him.
Dakota shook her head, "You were a part of Pike's group. As far as Octavia is concerned, you're as much to blame as Pike."
Bellamy scoffed. "As far as Octavia is concerned, or you?"
Dakota smiled slightly and stood up. "No, I don't blame you for Lincoln's death." Bellamy's face softened at her words, "I blame you for the death of a million Grounders that you killed. My friends-" Dakota yelled out but her words were short cut when she choked on her own saliva as tears fell from her eyes.
"I was doing the right thing! They could've killed us and I stopped it before it even happened-"
Dakota shook her head as she stared at him, wide eyed. "You did what you thought was right. I can't even look at you." Dakota turned away from him, her back facing Bellamy.
Bellamy walked over to her and grabbed onto her waist, pulling her to see her tear stained face. "Don't. They killed millions of our people when we had first landed-"
"They did that because they were scared." Dakota spoke softly, looking up into Bellamy's brown glossy eyes, looking at every freckle that was painted on Bellamy's face. "They were protecting each other-"
Bellamy shook his head and sighed while putting his hand on her cheek, making Dakota look up at him. The comfort of his hand almost seemed natural, but it felt like it burned her. "Everytime we've been separated," Bellamy gathered up the courage while Dakota sucked in a breath. "Each time i lost you, you were always on my mind."
"Bellamy, don't-" Dakota shook her head, trying to free herself from his arms, but Bellamy returned her gaze back to him.
"It scared me. I just lost you to Mount Weather and I thought i'd never see you again.. Then you left me, and it was hard but I accepted that you were gone, and--" Dakota stared back as her tears fell on her cheeks and Bellamy reached forward to wipe one away.
"Then you were there," Bellamy shook his head. "I came down here with the intention of protecting my sister, I never meant to fall in love with someone in the process."
"And then you left me." Dakota's words clashed with his. "And then you held a gun to my head."
"Dakota-"
"I love you, Bell. You've showed me that not everybody are monsters." Dakota took a moment to pause. "But what you failed to mention, is that the guy who showed me that... is a monster himself." She said, the tears building up in her eyes and Bellamy couldn't hide the ones he had also collected.
"I need time," Dakota shook her head when Bellamy's hand fell from her cheek. "You killed people that I cared about, and I don't see myself forgiving you for what you have done."
Bellamy stared back at her with his own tears falling from his eyes. The silence that filled them was consuming, and Bellamy felt himself get lost in the pool of her soulless amber eyes.
Nathan Miller came running into the cave, effectively ending Bellamy and Dakota's discussion. "They're here." Dakota turned away from Miller, trying to calm her nerves. Miller looked at her, noticing the way her shoulder shook while she swallowed her sobs, keeping them quiet. He glanced over at Bellamy before gesturing Bellamy to follow him.
Dakota wiped her eyes and took a breath before turning around and going to the entrance of the cave. The Rover pulled up and parked as Jasper jumped out while Clarke stared over at Bellamy. Dakota watched the exchange before her eyes glanced upon Jasper who was moving towards the back. Dakota pushed past Bellamy and walked to the back of the Rover. Jasper pulled open the doors and Dakota glanced upon Raven who was laying unconscious.
"Need your help! We have to get her inside before she wakes up." Jasper rushed out of the Rover carrying Raven. Octavia and Dakota helped to bring her inside.
"Clear some space!" Clarke said, as soon as they entered the cave. Sinclair rushed over, helping the girls set her down on a cleared space that had a blanket over it.
"What the hell happened?" He asked, his eyes worriedly trailing over her figure.
As soon as Raven was laid down, Dakota took off her jacket and let it fall over her shoulders, revealing the tight black shirt underneath her coat and plentiful scars that littered her body. She turned towards the group, her eyes snapping over to Bellamy's who just stared back at her. Dakota's gaze held his for a moment until Jasper spoke up, making her attention snap onto the panicked boy.
"I told you on the radio. Raven is not Raven anymore. None of them are," Jasper explained. "Jaha had been chipping everyone."
"Jasper's right, I've seen it with my own eyes," Clarke added.
"I don't need your help, all right?" Jasper snapped back angrily, obviously still angry with Clarke.
"Hey, Jaspy." Dakota approached him and put a warm hand on his shoulder and for once, he didn't push or flinched her away. Jasper turned to face the girl as his eyes softened under her gaze. "Just calm down and explain."
Jasper nodded at her. "Jaha is using the chips to control everyone. You swallow it, and it changes you," He looked around at everyone. "You forget who you are, and then you see this thing, A.L.I.E, only she's not really there. She made Raven slit her own wrists. She was trying to get it out of her head. I was trying to help her, but.."
Dakota furrowed her eyebrows, "I can take away all of your pain.." She mumbled to herself but Bellamy caught her words and looked down at her as her hand went into her pocket and started fumbling with whatever was in there.
"Okay," Sinclair approached Jasper, desperate to help Raven. "So let's help her now. Did she say how?"
"She was working on building something. She needed one of our old wristbands but Jaha destroyed them all."
"Wait a second," Clarke muttered, pulling something out of her pocket. "Does it look like this?" She held up a small chip that had the infinity sign on it. Dakota eyed it, it looked identical to the one Jaha gave to her, but the one Clarke had was transparent.
"Not exactly." Jasper answered sharply.
Suddenly, Raven shot to her feet and sprinted for the cave exit. She punched and pushed her way through Jasper before running towards the cave entrance.
"Don't let her get away!" Clarke screamed so that Harper and Miller could try and get Raven.
"It's just woods. I can't see anything," Raven said in a panicked tone, spinning around to find some sort of defining feature. Dakota ran out and grabbed ahold of both of her hands. She twisted them, making Raven let out a yelp of pain from the discomfort. "Dakota, what are you doing? Let me go!" Raven continued to struggle against the girl's iron grip.
Finally, Jasper came over and injected a stick into her neck, making her limply fall into Dakota's arms. "If Raven finds out where we are, So will A.L.I.E. She'll come for her," Jasper said, pulling the needle out of her neck. "Reaper stick, last dose."
"We have to go." Clarke said.
"Why? A.L.I.E doesn't know where we are."
"Because I know where we can get a wristband."
___________
Monty pulled the Rover up to the trading post that we had all visited before. Bellamy sat across from Dakota in the back. Dakota watched him carefully as he played with his hands, not fully trusting him while carrying a gun. The Rover came to a step and Dakota leaned up to look over Sinclair's shoulder, seeing a familiar face in the headlights.
Niylah stood in front of her post, removing her blade from it's sheath once the Rover came to a stop. "I'll talk to her," Clarke assured everyone, "Dakota, you should come with me."
Dakota snorted. "Last time I was here I was hunting you, Clarke. I have a face that tends to be remembered around here." Clarke nodded and then looked to Bellamy, which he nodded, accepting her invitation to come with her.
"Skaikru is not welcome here, Wanheda." Niylah bellowed, trying to get the two of them to leave.
"Niylah, what's wrong?"
"She's waking up! Hurry. We have to get her inside." Sinclair's voice rang out faintly behind her followed by the slamming of the Rover's doors.
"Is your father here?" Clarke asked desperately, while Dakota started walking up to the two and pulling her hood over her head to hide most of her face.
"My father's dead, part of an army killed by your people while trying to protect you." She snarled, glaring at the blonde-haired leader.
"Niylah, please." Clarke begged her, staring at her in desperation.
"I said no."
"We haven't got time for this." Bellamy said, pointing his gun at her chest. "Move. Move!" Bellamy barked, making Niylah back up with widened eyes. "Get her in there," He told the others, who ran past him to set Raven down.
"I told you, my mom was here. If she was chipped, A.L.I.E would know," Monty warned them all, knowing that his mother could recognize this place easily. While they all went in, Dakota yanked the gun down that was pointed at Niylah which made Bellamy glare over at her.
Raven's screaming filled Niylah's hut and Dakota found herself staring off into the wall, wondering how the same little chip in her pocket could make her act like that. Clarke walked up to talk to Niylah and Dakota walked into the back room, where Raven was staring out into nothing with a sinister smile on her face.
"Jasper, I got this." Dakota looked over at him, where he looked at her a little uneasy. "It's okay."
Dakota watched Jasper exit the tiny room before she turned and walked towards Raven, who carefully watched her every move. She walked towards the bed and sat down next to her and stared out into the corner of the room.
"Are you still in there?" Dakota's voice came out rather quiet. "I don't want to talk to this.. A.L.I.E. I need my best friend."
"I am your bestfriend." Her voice came out mono-toned, like her voice was being voiced by a robot.
"You're not," Dakota turned her head to look at her childhood bestfriend. "I can tell that whoever this person is, has completely taken over." She confessed to her and returned her gaze towards the wall.
"Have you ever wondered how you became a Night-blood?" Raven suddenly questioned her, making Dakota immediately turn her head. "She can tell you." Dakota narrowed her eyes down to her lap. "I know you have the chip, but the question is why you haven't gave in to the temptation?"
Dakota looked into the girl's brown eyes, she too had wondered herself why she had kept the chip in her pocket for so long. By now, she would have lost the little thing, or had thrown it away.
"Maybe it's because I know that pain is what makes us truly human."
"I can take the pain away, or you can continue to suffer with it." There it was, the voice that didn't sound like Raven. The voice that told her she wasn't talking to her bestfriend but the person that implanted herself inside of her head. "Don't you want to know what makes you so special? What makes you a fighter?"
Dakota took out the chip from her pocket and looked down on it. "What if I don't want to know?"
"Then you will spend the rest of your life wondering.."
Dakota took one last look at her before looking down at the chip again. She stared down at it while playing with it in her fingers. She let out a sigh before bringing her hand to her mouth while Raven watched her from the bed, a huge smile on her face. She placed the tiny chip on her tongue and closed her eyes as a single tear escaped and fell onto her cheek.
Dakota exhaled and shook her head, feeling nothing happening. She felt the same.
"You can be happy." Jaha's words echoed through her mind as the chip went down into her throat. She opened her mouth as a shaky breath escaped her mouth once the chip was consumed.
"Dakota, we need you!" Clarke's voice called her out of her trance and Dakota's eyes shot open. She looked around the room, seeing nothing but Raven staring back at her with a questionable look in her eye.
She got up from the bed and started to follow Clarke, but the minute she left the room, her eyes widened when she saw a lady she had never seen before stare back at her with a confident smile on her face. The woman had a slender build, and a red dress that complimented her red lipstick. Her dark brown eyes stared back at Dakota as she felt the entire world being lifted off of her shoulders.
"We have work to do, Dakota." Her toxic voice filled her ears as she smiled wickedly at the brunette. Dakota stared back at her, not believing what was in front of her right now. Dakota reached out to touch the person standing in front of her, and she gasped as her hand went completely through, making the person flicker.
Dakota swallowed hard before turning back and walking into the room where Clarke and the others were waiting for her.
A/N: I'M SO READY FOR THIS. I've came up with an awesome idea for this whole chip into Dakota's head and let's just say that her unique blood doesn't necessary agree with the chip. I hope you guys loved the little Bellamy and Dakota moment that I included for this chapter. I made it so it's very emotional, and I cried while writing it because I'm an emotional person who get's too included in their writing.
If you enjoyed this chapter! Please show the love and comment down below of what you loved about it, and what you hope to see in future chapters.
