Ch.11: SuperLad vs Heroes for Hire
Central Park
Earth-12041
June 3 13:30 EDT
Superboy and Aqualad slowly make their way along the southern edge of Central Park. They pass by several vendors selling newspapers and magazines. Many of them have covers that commend the exploits of any one of several groups of superheroes.
The Avengers.
The Fantastic Four.
The X-Men.
The West Coast Avengers.
"There sure are a lot of...Super Teams in this Universe," Conner comments, when he sees several more listed on the cover of another tabloid.
He stops when he sees the visage of one that he is familiar with.
The Justice League.
The stand says Midtown Comics and Cards, and has a sign that says:
'Stories sold here are only real in your imagination!'
He picks up the issue and flips through it. He is shocked to find, for a work of fiction, how well it details the League's last battle the Injustice League. He hands it to Kaldur, and his face shares the same shocked look.
The attendant notices this, and shouts at them, "Hey! This ain't a library! It's a business! Now pay up! Read any further, and I'll charge ya double!"
They both look up and see an elderly with a bushy white mustache and glasses.
"My apologies, sir," the Atlantian speaks regally, as he fishes out some usable currency.
The man accepts the money, but stares at him and Conner intently.
"Are you guys here for the Comic Convention?" he asks.
Conner quirks his brow questioningly.
"Cause you guys look a lot like two guys in this book," the attendant says, handing them a different book.
The book has a picture of a team of young heroes on the cover in a variety of heroic poses. He recognizes all of them...for he is one them. The book is titled...
YOUNG JUSTICE: THE NEXT GENERATION OF HEROES
The cover shows the Team trying their hardest not to be sucked into a portal.
"You're right," SB deadpans. "The resemblance is uncanny."
He reaches for the issue, but the attendant pulls it back.
"Three bucks!"
Conner just scowls at the man and starts to growl little.
"Here you are, sir," Kaldur says nervously as he pays the attendant, and is handed the issue. "Enjoy your day."
The Atlantian then pushes Superboy down the sidewalk with haste in order to prevent Superboy from blowing their cover and pounding the innocent comic book retailer into the pavement. After a few steps, he takes a seat on a bench in the park and flips through the first few pages.
"The accuracy of this book is, as you put it, uncanny," Kaldur says.
Conner takes a peak, "Yeah. They have every detail. It even blames Wally for creating the portal."
"But we don't know that for sure. If anything, it was this...Hydra that did that."
"Speaking of Hydra," a voice calls from in front of them. "We need you two to come with us."
Kaldur sets down the comic book and sees two individuals standing in front of him and Superboy.
One has dark skin and is dressed in yellow.
The other is fair-skinned and wears a green tunic-like costume with a dragon on his chest.

A/N: Sorry for the long wait. My job has been taking a lot out of me, and I've been having trouble with getting funding for my college courses. Also, I kinda broke a promise I made to myself and created two new projects.
Yay!!!
Oh! And I joined an RP group in order to find the voice for my new OC, Karma; whom may or may not get an appearance in this story, for I haven't really decided.
So, yeah, there it is. All the reasons it took so long to finish this chapter.
Please enjoy! If you do, then vote, comment, and follow!
See ya!!
