Chapter 31 - Run
Previously on UD...
"I apologize, sir, but if anything I can only call the local fire department to find her." The operator stated, pitying him
"You know what, nevermind. I will get someone else to help me find her!" He ended the call, throwing his phone in the passenger seat before driving off, taking a left instead of a right, going after her in the car. He knew that he would have no choice but to call his two best friends in order to find her and if he can't find her by himself. His heart tightened in his chest, worry consuming him. She couldn't stand out for long in the cold wasteland, especially when still in her school uniform and a plain winter jacket, she will freeze to death; and her messed up leg didn't help, if he didn't find her soon... She won't survive.
Akira's POV
I just ran.
I ran until my legs were numb, I couldn't feel my fingers, my lips turned blue and my side burned like hell. I collapsed onto the snow covered earth, hissing in pain as I felt my wounds reopen. 'Shit...' I groaned, rolling over until I laid on my back, breathing heavily as puffs of smoke lifted from my mouth and nose, my hot breath meeting the cold air. I couldn't see, so I just closed my eyes, letting the snow cover me. I was cold, shaking, I was close to getting hypothermia or an even worse illness related to the cold, I could only wish I would just fall asleep already. My heart raced, getting cold, trying to pump as much blood as it could through my veins to keep my body going but, I didn't want it to keep going.
My outburst held heavy pain from over the years, a pain that I wished I had never endured, it would be easier if I was dead. I'm tired of it, running and hiding, working so hard to survive and for what? I had nothing to live for, to look forward to. So what was the purpose of fighting so hard to live? I felt around at my side, feeling my soaked bandages begin to soak through my uniform, the black stockings I wore was evident that it was becoming a shade darker, and it wasn't from the snow currently starting to cover me from head to toe. I ran, and yet that is what I despised second to most.
I breathed, letting out more carbon dioxide into the air. I laid there, feeling my body slowly shut down, my eyelids grew heavy, I was ready to die.
I ready to let my mind and body go.
My eyes still closed, I could hear footsteps approaching, it was faint, but it was there. A low growl rumbling, it was an animal. Ha, that is funny, so I'm not going to freeze to death, I'm going to die from an animal attack, how fun. I briefly opened my eyes, able to see discolored eyes before passing out.
3rd Person's POV
"She ran through here, right?" Ayama asked Hatori, shivering as he wore more than 4 layers of clothing on him as he walked beside Hatori and Shigure
"Yes, she dashed out of the car and before I could find her, the snowstorm became heavier to the point of blinding me from looking beyond five feet." Hatori informed
"How did she managed to get away so fast, I thought she was still recovering from her injuries?"
"She is, no doubt that she could have reopened her wounds just by doing that."
"Well, good thing the storm is finally letting up." Rin muttered, running past them with a flashlight in hand, Serena following after her, carrying a bag filled with blankets to wrap Akira in once they found her
"Did you tell Ritsu?" Shigure asked Hatori who nodded, "I did, I told him to have a bath ready for Akira."
"He still doesn't remember her, right?" Hatori subtly nodded, quickening his step. After a few moments of silence, they heard Serena yell
"I found her cell phone!" Serena shouted, having the three men run towards her voice, soon coming upon her and Rin, who held the blue flip phone in hand, dead and possibly broken from the snow
"Is there any footprints?" Tohru asked, breathing heavily from running so much that day, her teeth chattering from the cold
"No... But there is..." Rin stared down at the snow covered ground where she could see animal tracks and something that has been dragged
"Oh my god..." Tohru covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes
"Quickly, follow them!" Everyone nodded, breaking out into a sprint. Hatori only called Shigure and Ayame, and so only Tohru, Yuki, Kyo, Rin, and Serena could come to help find the 15 year old, Hatori didn't want to chance calling the household in fear that would rise havoc... They continued to follow the trail before stopping once they saw an abandoned house come into sight, only, they could see light emitting from the blow out windows
"There, the trail leads the whole ways to the front door." Rin stated, her eyes narrowing
"This can't be good.." Yuki muttered while Kyo remained silent in suspicion.
