Chapter 30 - Seeing
Previously on UD...
"You sure? You don't even need to check your bandages-"
"I'm a fast healer." She quickly replied, keeping her gaze on the book in her hands, annoyed that he was speaking to her while she was clearly doing something, as in reading
"Oh." He shut his mouth, hearing the faint annoyance laced in her voice. He nodded before leaving, Momiji standing by the door in wait for him
"Come on! I'm starving~!".
Haru's POV
"Are you okay?" I was snapped out of my thoughts by Momiji, looking down at him to see him looking worriedly up at me
"Yeah- J-Just got lost in my thoughts is all." I told him with a small smile before it was my turn to pay for my lunch. I paid the nice lady before walking away over to the door, leaning against it in wait of Momiji to finish paying as well. I chewed on the inside of my cheek, worry in my gaze for the well being of Akira. Ever since she went over to Hatori's house, she has been acting odd, more distant than she was before. Was it just because she was in pain from her injuries? Or was it something entirely else. I shook my head, 'No, if she wants her space then I won't bother her unless she needs me.' I thought to myself with a small nod in agreement with myself. Myself and I... Wait, was it just me growing up? The sudden thought came to me, feeling as if there was gaps in my memory, how have I not noticed this before? Might just be me getting old...
"Let's a go~!" Momiji grabbed ahold of my arm before dragging me out of the school shop and through the hallways, heading back to our classroom to eat
"Hey, Momiji."
"Yeah?"
"What game did we used to always play as kids?" Momiji thought for a moment, sticking his bottom lip out as he scrunched up his eyebrows
"Umm... I think it was tag?"
"Ohh.."
"Why?"
"Nothing, just feel tired." Momiji game me a look before shrugging and entering the classroom, immediately letting go of my arm to get into his seat. I walked over and sat down next to Akira who was reading over equations, muttering under her breath as she worked out the problems on both paper and in her mind
"Take a break, Akira. It's not good to always be working." I told her softly and she shrugged, tapping her pencil against her lip
"Keeps me occupied." I opened up my bento, seeing the fried chicken, rice, and accompanied by a juice box and a small treat. I glanced over at Akira who still kept her gaze down at her notebook, her eyes going back and forth over the text. I grabbed my chopsticks before getting a small piece of fried chicken
"Hey, Akira."
"Hmm?"
"Look at me."
"Why-?" Akira looked over at me before I shoved the piece of fried chicken into her mouth, shocking her by how her eyes widened instantly at my sudden action
"You need to eat, it isn't good to skip meals." I told her with some sort of edge in my tone. She narrowed her eyes at me, about ready to spit the fried chicken out of her mouth when I gave her a look, 'Don't you dare...' I thought in my mind, not appreciating her being dismissive about food right now. She slowly chewed, staring at me with a glare to mirror my own. She swallowed it, never breaking my gaze
"Ass."
"Anything to keep you healthy."
Akira's POV (Later That Day)
I walked out of the school with my hands stuffed into my pockets, sighing deeply before exhaling, watching as a small cloud of smoke escaped past my lips and into the chilly air. I continued walking, a certain destination in mind, work. I didn't get a chance to be able to go to it since Serena has always been there to take over my shift stating of how, I was still 'healing' from my injuries. But, I was fine. I am just a waitress, it isn't like I'm going to do any heavy lifting. I know that she means well but, it still annoys the hell out of me especially when that part time job is my only source of income nowadays.
When I was first banished from the Sohma HouseHold, my parents used to send me money once a week to help me out but of course, none other than Akito Sohma found out and forbade them from sending me anything that could possibly help me survive on my own. The memory left a bitter taste in my mouth, shaking my head in disgust
"Such an ass he is..."
"Who is?" I jumped, swiftly turning around and throwing a punch only for them to grab hold of my fist. I narrowed my eyes once I saw it was Hatori, glaring deeply up at him, "What do you want?" I asked him, annoyance laced in my voice
"To pick you up."
"Eh?"
"I'm doing this behind everyone's back so I suggest you not to make a huge fuss over it." I scoffed, ripping my fist out of his hand, cracking my fingers
"I don't like you."
"Get used to it, because I'm going to be picking you up for now on."
"Why? I can perfectly walk to work on my own-"
"You aren't gonna go to work." He told me sternly, resting his hands on his hips
"And who is going to stop me?" Hatori rolled his eyes at me, sighing deeply before firmly grabbing hold of my shoulder but not as much to hurt me in anyway
"Come on." He led me across the street where I could see he parked his car at. I chewed on the inside of my cheek, hating that if I ran, I would only cause a scene, plus I didn't feel like running with my messed up leg currently. I sighed, crossing my arms. 'I hate this...'.
