Chapter 22 - Choices

"The arrangements shall be made, is that all?"
"Yes thank you." The office caught off the call and I sighed in relief just as my battery died on my phone. I grumbled annoyingly and went over to where my charger was on the counter and plugged it in. I scratched the back of my head feeling weirded out that a stranger and acquaintance actually slept over at my house. But instead of being the worry wart I usually am, I instead thought about the weird dream I had. I shook my head when I saw the girl flash in my mind, pestering me with it's beauty. I looked over to see the two still sleeping peacefully only for a struck of familiarity to make it's way into my brain. If this week couldn't get any worse, the man with black hair was my older cousin, Shigure Sohma born in the Year of the Dog. Who now to somehow magically appear into my life?! Ayame?! And great he is beginning to wake up! I hurriedly looked around, trying to find a good hiding spot to hide from him. I looked at the little furniture I had and decided in the spur of the moment to hide under the kitchen table, genious me strikes again. A few minutes later, and I finally heard footsteps walk into the kitchen and searched around, supposedly looking for me considering I wasn't where I was last left at on the couch. I tightly closed my eyes, hoping that he wouldn't find me but of course the universe hates me he so just happened to look under the table to see me cradling my head in between my knees with arms covering my face.
3rd Person's POV
Akira stayed unmoving from her position while Shigure stared at her in both relief and confusion. With a steady breath, Shigure moved one of the chairs away to sit down in front of her, having to bend slightly down so he wouldn't knock his head off of underneath the table
"Ammara?" Shigure asked her softly, slowly reaching out towards until resting his hand on her forearm. Akira flinched away from him before bitterly replying
"That's not my name."
"Yes it is, it was your mother named you when you were born. Ammara Akira Sohma." Akira cringed at the name, not used to hearing it after so long
"Listen to me, Ammara. I know that you aren't supposed to associate yourself with any of us-" Akira scoffed lightly, still not looking at him
"-But, I would feel more comfortable if you came and lived with me rather than out here alone with barely anything except for a roof over your head and a fireplace." Akira stopped herself from mentioning how she was stealing power from one of the plants a few miles away from there. The rerouting process was long and grueling last year Akira remembered. She shook her head at the memory, remembering that sitting in front of her was her older cousin
"I have survived on my own for this long, what is the difference?" Akira asked questionably, the only thing she wanted in that moment was for Shigure to leave and never come back
"Because you have been treated wrongly in the past and I want it up to you for barely associating myself with you before you were kicked out of the household. Please, come live with me." Akira finally looked up at him, her eyes glaring daggers at him
"No. It's better off for me to not associate myself with anyone-"
"I heard your conversation with the school earlier. I see that you have already associated yourself with Haru making your argument invalid." Akira's cheeks flamed red in anger, knowing he was right. Shigure sighed, rubbing Akira's arm lightly
"Please, don't do it for me but for yourself, hell do it for your mother and father who deeply miss you." Akira looked away from Shigure's prying eyes at the mention of her parents that she felt mixed feelings for. She remembered her father's disappointed look in his eyes and her mother's worried ones. The two stayed there in an uncomfortable silence for 10 terrible minutes, Akira thinking over her choices. To move away, to stay, to live with Shigure, or to simply disappear without a trace.
