Athena is her brother's polar opposite. While he's quiet and calculating, she's loud and impulsive. She won't hesitate to give you a piece of her mind. She's smart, but doesn't show it. She was a fighter from birth with anger issues to go with it. She tends to do what she wants despite how her actions affect other people.

Athena was born on July 19 to Janet and Jack Drake. She was Tim's twin sister.

The twins were barely toddlers when their parents took them to the circus. In order to ease his wife's concerns that the circus might frighten the twins, Jack asked to take a picture with the Flying Graysons, who were the starring act. It was here that Athena met Roxie, whom the toddler was immediately enamored with. The teen even promised to dedicate her act to the twins. Soon after, the Drake family bore witness to the murder of Dick and Roxie's parents John and Mary, alongside Bruce Wayne.

When Athena was nine, she was at a sandwich shop with her friend, when she saw the new villain, Bigtop Babe. While running from the Bat, the woman executed a perfect triple barrel roll, something only the Flying Graysons were able to do. Athena knew something was up.

She began to research Roxie Grayson. What happened to her after her parents' murders, the like. Well, it turned out, Roxie was missing. So was her son, Rickie. Her husband, Basile, had been murdered. The police guessed by Roxie herself.

Athena began to tail Bigtop Babe and Icecube, not unlike how her brother followed Batman and Robin. She was enamored with the woman. Just like she'd been enamored with her when they were children.

When the twins were thirteen, the ruthless Obeah Man captured Jack and Janet during a trip to the Caribbean. The Obeah man intended to sacrifice them, but Batman arrived to their rescue. Unfortunately, Janet and Jack both drank water laced with poison, and Janet died, while Jack was left in a coma.

Athena found out when she was in class one day. Tim texted her, saying what had happened. It was then that Athena ran out of school and into an alley. She sat for a long time, sobbing. What was she going to do without her parents? Tim was never around anymore. She would be alone. So, she dug through her backpack until she found a pair of scissors. With these, she planned to slit her wrists.

Then, a man stopped and asked if she was okay.

She recognized him first as Icecube. Then, she realized he was Reggie Winters, the man who'd found her when she ran away after witnessing the Grayson's murder. She told him what happened and he took her home with him.

Thus, Athena became part of the Bigtop Band.

A few months after Athena arrived, one of Roxie's other kids, Marlene, had a baby. While Marlene was in the hospital, Reggie was alone with the rest of the kids. One night, Reggie called Athena into the room he usually shared with Roxie. He asked her to sit with him, so she did.

Reggie told her that he thought she was beautiful. Athena had never really gotten male attention before, so she was elated to know that she could be wanted. Well, one thing led to another, and Athena lost her virginity on her adoptive mother's bed.

Afterwards, Reggie would continue a sexual relationship with Athena until he died.

More kids ended up with the Bigtop Band. Roxie was always distracted. This allowed Athena to do basically whatever she pleased. She would often steal money from Roxie's purse and use it to buy whatever she wanted. 

When Athena was sixteen, she missed her period. She began to panic. She couldn't be pregnant. Could she? Six tests later, she knew that she was.

She had to get rid of the baby. She was only sixteen. But she couldn't go to a clinic. Someone might see her there or follow her. So she took a wire coat hanger and locked herself in the bathroom.

Half an hour later, Roxie found her lying in a pool of her own blood.

Athena was taken to the hospital by Roxie. She stayed there for three days. Roxie told the rest of the kids that Athena had left. When she came home, Roxie never talked about the incident with her again.

A year later, Roxie and Obsidian Tempest killed Reggie. Athena was upset. They'd killed the only man that ever loved her.

The man that had almost fathered her child.

A little while later, Athena found out that she was with child again. This time, she decided to keep the baby. All that was left of Reggie.

Or so she thought. 

It turned out that Roxie was also pregnant with Reggie's child. Since it's very awkward to have your adoptive mom's boyfriend's kid at the same time your adoptive mom is also having his kid, Athena decided that she was going to leave a few months before the baby was born.

Four months into the pregnancy, Athena lost the baby.

She was about to take a shower, when blood started pouring. She knew what had happened. She called for Roxie, who once again took her to the hospital. No questions were asked.

Once Athena got out, she didn't go home. Instead, she left town. That's how she met Jacob Hodgkins.

He was a drug dealer. They met after he sold her heroin. She kept going back. Then, when she had no money, they worked out a deal for her to pay another way.

Eventually, Athena moved in with him. They spent their days getting high, selling drugs, and having sex. He was the perfect distraction.
