making cookies during the rain storm
*Tyler, Korey, Hazel and Rory all make cookies together during the California rain storm, Thank you to BrianBadgerMay for helping me write this! Enjoy! 😇*
When it rains, in California, it pours. That or it goes on and off between the rain. But today, it was very wet and cold.
Troye is going to the Grammy awards with his boys, which they left early for due to the traffic they'd face in this weather.
So it was just Tyler, Korey, Hazel and Rory.
*Hazel and Rory's outfits*
"I wanna go out, Daddy! Looks fun!" Hazel says to her dad as she presses her hands against the glass door.
"Too!" Rory shrieks, copying her sister.
"It does look fun, but it's very, very wet and really cold outside, guys." Korey tells the girls.
"What do we do?" The older girl asks with boredom.
"I think we could make cookies for us and then another batch for your brothers when they get home!" Tyler suggests as he walks in with a basket of laundry and starts folding clothes.
"Mama!" Rory cheers, always happy to see him.
"YES!" Hazel says loudly, jumping up and down.
Korey smiles and helps Tyler with laundry for a minute before following the two kids into the kitchen.
"You can't wait to start, can you? Okay, let's get ingredients." Korey says with a laugh.
Most of the shelves were fairly low, and Rory and her big sister can easily reach them.
Besides, Tyler and Korey liked involving the kids so much so that they could learn important skills and independence.
"We need flour, but I'll get that because it's really heavy and might spill," Korey instructs.
"Also brown sugar and white sugar." Hazel hands a bag of brown sugar to Rory, who lands on the floor from the sudden weight, but luckily it didn't spill.
Korey looks concerned for a second but relaxes as Rory starts laughing and Hazel puts the white sugar on the counter.
"Look! I got the cookie pans, Pam spray and the cookie dough!" Tyler says as he smiles at the girls and Korey all standing in the kitchen together.
"Wet's eat it!" Hazel says as she jumps up and down and gets excited
"YES!" Rory yells, copying her big sister with jumping around.
"No, it's not really good to do that, baby girls." Tyler says to the girls, trying to make sure they don't learn that you could actually eat cookie dough.
"Archie and Spare did it with Daddy!" Hazel says as Tyler looks at Korey and playfully rolls his eyes at him.
"What? A little bit of cookie dough is fine. Besides the girls really wanted our special oatmeal homemade chocolate chip cookie, right?" Korey says as Rory and Hazel both giggle and smile at their Daddy.
"Ya! Cookies!" Rory says with a big grin.
"I wuv oatmeal cookies!" Hazel says as she gets excited.
"We are making two kinds of cookies I see! You girlies love homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies while the boys love the chocolate chip cookies that are already made but just need to be baked! That's Troye's fault." Tyler says, causing the girls the giggles
"And Tyde!" Korey says playfully remembering Troye and Tyde giving the boys not homemade healthier cookies that Tyler wanted them to have as little kids.
"It fine," Rory repeats. She didn't fully understand, but was in her phase of constantly copying words.
"Yeah, but it could make you sick. Let's not eat the dough before it's cooked. I know waiting is hard, but it's better to wait." Tyler adds with concern.
"Okay, we won't eat the cookie dough," Korey decides to agree, knowing saying the opposite wouldn't be the best example as a parent.
"Awww!" Hazel and Rory say with disappointment.
"I know. It's gonna taste even better, though!" Tyler assures them.
"Mama! I do dis!" Rory points at chocolate chips.
"Yes, we can put chocolate chips on top. We do love chocolate." Tyler laughs.
"Okay, let's get this started! We need to get our bowl and get all of the ingredients in the bowl." Korey says to the girls.
"We need to wash our hands first, Daddy!" Hazel says to Korey with a cheeky smile.
"That's right, Hazzy! We do!" Korey says with a grin.
Korey, Hazel, Rory and Tyler all wash their hands and then they get started!
"Well, everyone has different tastes and likes." Tyler tells the kids, teaching them to be respectful.
Korey turns on the oven to preheat, cracking an egg into a mixing bowl.
"Yeah! I also wike sprinkle cookies!" Hazel says happily.
"Cookies!" Rory says, getting impatient.
"Yes, we're making the cookies now. Here, Rory, you can help me put the store cookie dough on the trays!" Tyler says, setting the baby on the counter.
Rory is good with balancing, so she sits there easily and starts to help Tyler, while Korey and Hazel make cookies from scratch.
"We mix the butter with sugar now, until it's light and fluffy." Korey reads from his phone as he supervises his daughter too.
"Got it!" Hazel nods, turning on the stand mixer and giggling at the sudden loud noise.
"Ah!" Rory yells in surprise from not being warned, and accidentally drops a piece of cookie dough on the floor.
"It's okay! It's okay, here's another cookie to put on the tray." Tyler hands Rory more dough before she can get too upset.
"Aw, it's okay Rory! I'm sorry we didn't give you a warning." Korey says, giving Rory a kiss and then Hazel, making sure both of them feel lots of love.
"Great job putting the cookies in the pan, Rory! Such a big helper." Tyler says as Rory giggles.
Rory and Hazel grab some cookie dough and manage to eat it, causing Tyler to sigh and Korey to laugh.
"It's okay, babe. They'll be fine." Korey says as he rubs Tyler's back playfully.
"That's enough, girlies. We need to save some to make some more cookies." Tyler says to Rory and Hazel as the girls giggle.
Rory nods seriously, putting the last cookie on the baking pan and lets Tyler help wash her hands.
Hazel mixes some oats and flour into a bowl that Korey gives her, and she looks at Tyler. "Okay, Mama. I pwomise."
Korey adds the dry ingredients to the egg and butter, making sure to warn his youngest child this time.
"It's gonna be loud for a second, okay?" Korey asks and waits until Rory tells him it was okay, covering her ears.
Hazel turns the mixer back on and stops it after a minute, watching the ingredients turn into more of a dough.
Rory uncovers her ears and looks up at Korey and Hazel, wanting to help. "Me try."
"You would like to help? Here, you can pour chocolate chips in and then stir." Korey explains and picks Rory up.
Rory dumps the bowl of chocolate chips in, luckily it was already measured so it wouldn't be too many.
"Great job! Okay, let's stir it!" Korey says as he and Rory carefully mix the ingredients together.
"Yay!" Rory cheers loudly with excitement.
"No no! We don't touch it now. We need to use the spoons and rollers to make the cookies!" Korey says as he hands Rory the rolling pin.
Meanwhile, Hazel is making some cookies with Tyler, carefully making the best circle shaped cookies.
"Woah, those are some big cookies, Haz! Are those for you?" Tyler asks Hazel as he takes a few pictures of her.
"Uh huh! And Rory!" Hazel says with confidence causing Tyler to smile.
"What about me and Daddy?" Tyler asks, playfully pouting at Hazel.
"I'll make even bigger ones for you and Daddy!" Hazel says as Korey giggles and Tyler smiles.
"Well, we can't make them too big, sweet girl. They all won't fit on the pan." Tyler says to Hazel.
Hazel nods in understanding, making sure to make some medium sized cookies. "But it's so wittle!"
"They look really little but they get big when they go into the hot oven." Tyler explains.
"Oooh!" Hazel says with interest.
"Nom nom nom," Rory says, pretending like she'll eat more cookie dough.
"No, Rory. Silly girl." Korey says calmly, seeing that she was just acting and then she puts the cookie dough back.
Soon, all the dough is on baking trays and Tyler freezes the extra dough so they won't have as many cookies and it won't take as long next time.
Outside, rain is falling, pretty heavily, and both girls are so intrigued by it since they don't see it much.
Rory barely was old enough to remember rain, so she's especially into it. "Mama! What it?" She asks.
"Outside? It's raining, Rory! It's when the clouds collect water and then the water comes out when the clouds get full." Tyler says to his youngest child.
"I love rain!" Hazel says happily, watching the drops slide down the windows and listening to the sound.
"The rain helps the grass and flowers grow!" Korey says as Hazel and Rory happily look out the window at the rain.
"Daddy and I are going to put the cookies in the oven now!" Tyler says causing Rory and Hazel to cheer.
"YAY!" Rory and Hazel both say in unison with big smiles.
Tyler and Korey carefully put the two cookie trays in the oven and get the timer set.
Hazel dances around the kitchen for a couple minutes, dancing to the rhythm of the rain.
Rory does her best to copy her big sister, but then gets distracted and goes to get a tambourine, hitting a beat to keep Hazel in time.
"Wow! Good job, Rory!" Tyler praises when he sees how well she's keeping a beat.
"I do it!" Rory says proudly.
"You two girlies are so cute!" Korey says, proudly filming his baby girls.
Even today, Korey still cannot believe he is a father to these two little girls who love him so much and is going to marry his best friend.
"Daddy! Can we paint nails?" Hazel asks Korey, hugging his leg.
"Your fingernails? Maybe after bath time! How does that sound?" Korey says to Hazel and Hazel cheers in excitement.
"Good!" Hazel says happily.
"Such a princess!" Tyler says as Rory walks over to him and hugs him.
"You've always been a princess, haven't you?" Korey asks his older daughter.
"Of course!" Hazel says as if she knew it all along, which makes Korey laugh.
Tyler hugs Rory happily, really enjoying the moment.
He was so surprised when she was born, since it was not that long after Hazel, but Rory has been such a blessing for their family.
And Tyler had worried that the boys would get jealous of Rory, like they did with Hazel, but they just adore their baby sister.
"Mama! See!" Rory picks up a toy crocodile.
"Oooh! Oh no, a crocodile!" Tyler acts scared.
"It nice! And sing!" Rory says as she sings the chorus of "Crocodile Rock".
"Oh, I'm glad. It's such a good singer!" Tyler giggles.
Thanks to Archer, Rory has been in love with Elton John's music, and of course the Beatles, but currently Elton.
Soon, the timer goes off and they all go back to the kitchen to take the cookies out.
Rory and Hazel stand back, but stay nearby, smelling the cookies.
"Mmm! It smells so yummy! Can we have one, now?" Hazel asks her parents.
"Not yet! They're still really hot! Mama is putting them on a rack to cool down." Korey tells the girls.
"They always look under-done. But I forget that they firm up out of the oven." Tyler says with a smile, picking up Rory when his hands are free.
"Me too! But we don't want burned cookies!" Korey laughs in agreement.
"Should we cook them a little more?" Tyler asks Korey with a grin.
"I think they are good! Now we have to wait for them to cool down. Probably another thirty minutes." Korey says causing the girls to cheer.
"They have to cool down, girlies. They are very very hot." Tyler says to Rory and Hazel.
"Looks like Archer and Sparrows cookie's need a few more minutes of cooking." Korey says, checking the second set of cookies.
"Archie! Spare!" Rory says, talking about her big brothers happily.
"Yup! Your brothers' cookies aren't done yet! They should be sending us pictures soon!
"Ya! They went to da Gwrammys!" Hazel says as she dances.
"Yes, they did! With Uncle Troye!" Korey agrees. "They'll be happy to have cookies when they get back."
"I don't think they'll take thirty minutes to cool," Tyler realizes as he feels a cookie. "Maybe ten."
Rory cheers again. Because toddlers really love cookies, for some reason. She leans forward slightly.
Rory stares at the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies curiously, but remembers being told it was still hot, and leans into Tyler instead.
"Sweet girl. Are you getting sleepy?" Tyler says, rubbing Rory's back.
"Noooo." Rory says as Korey giggles.
"I'm not sweepy!" Hazel says as she smiles ear to ear.
"You certainly aren't! It's not that late, anyway." Korey says and smiles back at her.
A few more minutes, and Korey takes the store-bought cookies out of the oven, letting those cool on a wire rack.
Tyler picks up an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and hands it to Rory, since it was no longer hot.
"Yay!!" The baby says and is full of energy again, due to excitement.
"And here you go, Hazel! One for you too!" Tyler hands his other daughter an oatmeal cookie.
"Thank you, Mama! Can I have milk, too?" Hazel says, then looks at the fridge patiently.
"Sure! Milk sounds good with cookies!" Tyler says as he pours Hazel and Rory a sippy cup of milk.
"Mmm, these cookies are really good, girlies! You two did an awesome job!" Korey says as he happily eats his cookies.
"YUM!" Rory says with some cookie crumbs on her face.
"I wike it alwot!" Hazel says with a big grin.
"Too!" Rory agrees, half a cookie in her hand.
Hazel takes a big sip of milk, then takes another bite of her cookie with pride.
"Making cookies is great for a rainy day, isn't it?" Tyler asks as he starts to put the cooled cookies into airtight containers.
"It is!!" Hazel says, and Rory nods vigorously.
Rory drinks from her own sippy cup, looking more tired than before.
"Do you girls wanna see the pictures your brothers sent? I just got them." Tyler says to his younger kids.
"Yeah! Archie! Sparrow!" Rory looks at Tyler's phone when he shows her. Tyler then turns the phone to Hazel.
"Aww! So tute!" Hazel says with a big grin.
"Ya tute!" Rory says as she giggles.
"Did Uncle Troye win?" Hazel asks Tyler and Korey.
"No, he didn't win! But it's still awesome to be nominated for a Grammy." Korey says to the girls with a smile.
The girls are obviously a bit young to understand, but agree anyway, Hazel realizing better what an award is. They both smile.

After some more time, it's time for bed, and as Hazel and Rory are getting in bed, Hazel asks her parents a question.
"Are Sparrow and Archer coming back now?" She wonders quietly.
"No, they're staying with Uncle Troye. They'll be back tomorrow, when it's daytime." Tyler explains.
Rory was sitting on the floor, doing a toddler puzzle as she listens and watches Tyler and her sister talk.
"It dark now!" Rory says suddenly, looking out the window.
"It is dark out! That means it's night time." Korey says to the girls with a grin.
"It's bed time!" Hazel says as she climbs in her bed and giggles.
"Yes, it is!" Korey replies happily.
Tyler puts Rory in her bed and gives her one of her favorite stuffed animals.
Rory snuggles the toy, yawning sleepily. Korey and Tyler give the girls each a kiss on the forehead and turn off the lights, quietly leaving and closing the door. :)
