Chapter 3
"Alright, so tell me what happened back there." Coach McClein commanded us.
"I-uh..." I twiddled my thumbs. Alex looked dumbfounded. The coach grimaced.
"I'll tell you what happened. That, my friends, was anemoi thuellai. "
"Anemoi...?" Alex trailed off. I racked my brains.
"Oh, anemoi! Weren't they those spirits...?" I exclaimed.
"Yes, the spirits of violent storm-winds, sons of the giant monster-dude Typhus. Recently, Aeolus has been using them for a god's vengeance..and weather. Buuuuut...sometimes, they are attracted to demigods." Coach McClein told us.
"Wait," Alex blurted in, "Demigods? Uh, I'm pretty sure that we aren't like, Zeus' children or something. Like, wouldn't we know?"
Coach coughed.
"Thats...ironically funny. I mean, I'd doubt you're Big Three material, but probably minor kid's."
She turned to point at me.
"You, judging by the targeting but never being hit, probably Tyche. Maybe someone else though. Maybe you're not even a demigod. But Alex, judging by the rainbows, you're definitely Iris. Now, get outside, your ride is arriving."
"Our-I'm sorry, what?" Alex asked. Coach rolled her eyes.
"They'll explain it to you once you get to camp. Now go! Outside, now!"
We jumped to our feet and ran out to the front of the school.
A chariot circled overhead.
First off, let's just stop there.
A chariot.
In the air.
It seemed to be drawn by two horses....with wings.
"What the..." Alex trailed off as the chariot landed. Two people were in it, a butch brunette with tattoos in her right arm and a skinny guy with an auburn mop of hair and freckles covering his face like stars in the sky.
"Get in." The brunette said. Without questioning it, we ran over and clambered into the chariot.
I was right. It was being drawn by two gray horses. Wings folded at their side, huge machines for flying.
"My. God." I uttered.
The redhead snorted.
"What you should be saying is my gods. If you're what we think you are."
Alex gripped the side of the chariot as it slowly began to rise. My stomach lurched.
We rose into the air.
"So..so where are you taking us?" I asked, nervously looking down over the edge.
Butch girl chuckled.
"Camp Half Blood, that's where." She said, snapping the reigns.
The winged horses whinnied.
Alex looked up from her over-railing lunch loss.
"Are those...Pegasuses?" she asked.
"One question at a time. Yeah, they're pegasi. Winged horses." Butch said.
"I-okay. Wow." Alex said, dumbfounded.
"And what is Camp Half Blood?" I inquired. Redhead laughed, looking down over the railing.
"You're about to find out."
