13: Rest In Piece

"Where were you?"

Haden sat on the couch with a frown etched on his face.

Selene heart drummed against her ribs, dreading he might already know where she was.

"I went to the washroom." But she took a chance.

He nodded, "Why hasn't the client showed up yet?"

"Uh-he must be running late."

Her phone gave a ping and vibrated in her hand that brought her attention to it.

She opened the message sent by: Mr. Killer looks which he saved in her phone himself.

_Ditch that douche and come out! I'm waiting.

Her grip on her phone tightened with fury for ordering her around.

"Fifteen minutes then I'll leave," Haden sighed and slid deeper into the couch.

Her phone pinged again.

Message by Mr. Killer looks _ Three minutes then I'll come to you.

"What's with all the time warnings today?" Selene muttered to herself.

"What?" Haden asked, confused.

"Huh? Uh, nothing." She cursed to herself for saying that out loud.

"Who is it?" Haden questioned noticing her checking her phone.

Lucky stars were not on her side today. There's every chance that these two egoistic, sadistic men could cross paths today and when they do Selene could die in the misfire, literally.

"It's the client. He texted that he'll be late. I'll just call him to know how late he'll be." She lied using it as an excuse to meet Keir.

Haden shrugged, "Sure."

Selene took off from there and her legs instantly found their way to the jerk standing in the far corner of the parking lot.

"Who do you think you are, sending me threat messages to come out?" Selene yelled.

Keir turned around, his eyes raked her from head to toe imprinting her sight into his mind once again.

He scratched the stubble on his jaw with his knife and his eyes finally settled on her face.

"Didn't I save my name on your phone?" He asked, confused.

Selene rolled her eyes, "Oh yeah you did, Mr. Killer looks."

He flashed her a boyish grin making her heart skip a beat, "Emphasis on the killer, of course."

His thick British accent came out that Selene never observed that he had one.

"Stop playing around, Keir. Why are we here?"

"As I said, to kill Haden," He said as a matter of fact.

Selene looked at him dumbfounded for a moment before giving a wry laugh.

"Stop joking."

"I don't pull jokes on murdering," He said in a serious tone.

Selene bit her lip and nodded, "Fine! Why do you want to kill him?"

Keir scoffed, "Because I can? I'm a psychopath, angel. I don't have to explain myself," He said waving the knife around.

"Don't call me angel!"

He ignored her and made his way to the club. Selene pushed him back forcefully to stop him.

"With almost a hundred people in the club, you just found your inner urge to kill Haden?!"

"Yes," He answered and tried to walk past her.

"No!" She pulled him back, grabbing his black tee into a bunch.

"Hey!" He protested.

"You will not kill him." She stood her ground.

This awakened curiosity in him. Her wide eyes with a hint of fear and anxiety in them, made him question why she cared about this. He thought she wanted to get rid of him or did he read her wrong.

He held the hand that was holding his shirt and pulled her, jerking her close to his face.

"Enough!" He yelled, making her jump.

"Now, why don't you tell me why you don't want him killed?" He asked in a hushed tone. His extremes were driving her crazy.

She decided to answer hoping that would stop him, "I-I like him."

Keir stared at her with a blank face. He was silent. Ten seconds passed then half a minute but he stared at her expressionless.

Suddenly he burst out laughing like he heard the best joke in the century. He released the grip on her hand and walked two steps around, laughing to himself.

"Keir?" He kept laughing.

"What's so funny?!"

Selene glared at still laughing Keir beside her. Few moments later, he got a grip on himself.

"You want me to believe that you like that shit bag when you were squirming under his touch less than an hour ago?" He said in between his bubbling laughs.

"Were you watching me?!"

He pursed his lips and gave a half shrug, "That's not the point."

Selene was speechless. She didn't know what else to do, most importantly she was tired of explaining to someone who was hell bent on killing.

"I'm guessing that I can resume." He walked past her.

She huffed and stomped her leg. She can't let him kill Haden, so she ran after him.

"Wait! Wait!" She stood in front of him. "He is," She gulped trying to put out words, "He is more important to me alive than dead. That's all I can say."

He released a sigh. Selene almost thought that he would give up, but who was she kidding? He is a psychopath, for crying out loud.

"Still, I want his blood drained," He nodded, feigning apology.

They almost walked half way through the parking lot but Selene was adamant on stopping him in this wrestling battle of theirs.

"Keir, stop! Stop!" She said in a desperate tone. "Just don't kill him, I'll do anything -" She cut herself off realising the mistake she made.

A slow curve formed on his pink moulds. "Anything?" He asked.

It was too late to deny, she already fell into this neck deep.

She sighed and nodded, "Anything," and added, "but sexual favours."

His smirk grew wide, "Oh trust me angel, I don't have to ask for it."

Selene would have usually laughed at his smugness but now it's different. She is going to make a deal that might have fatal repercussions.

"Okay." Keir broke the silence, "I won't kill him. For now."

Selene didn't feel relieved as much as she thought it would because it has something to do with what he spoke next.

"but you have to work with me."

"What? What do you mean-" He cut her off.

"Uh! Uh! I know you have questions. We'll have a meeting soon and will negotiate on both sides," He said, "Until further notice, chill." He smirked, "because Angel, it's going to be a blast!" He tapped her nose.

She spat his hand away and glared at him which made no difference to his demeanour.

"I think you should head in, your lover boy will be waiting for you," He mocked.

"Fuck!" She cursed as she realised that she was out long. Haden might come out looking for her or worse see her with Keir.

Just when she took two steps forward towards the club, a black Mercedes stopped before Keir and her.

The man inside took off his goggles and flashed a sloppy grin. Selene recognised him as Greg, her client that was running late.

"Heyo! You're that chick who works for Haden right? Take me to him," He said, killing the engine and pulling open the car door.

Keir shut his door off from outside and loomed over his window staring down at him.

"Actually she works with me," He said.

His back was faced to Selene, so she didn't know what he was doing.

"Keir what are you doing?" She asked meekly.

"Hey! I know you. You are the psycho guy who's residing in Downtown to avoid the cops." Greg said in recognition.

Selene stood there looking at both the men conversing in a weird manner.

When Keir didn't answer, "Yo chick! What are you doing with this psycho? Where's Haden I-"

His words struck in his throat as Keir's knife penetrated his fat tummy.

Selene gasped and closed her mouth in horror. She watched dumbstruck as he tore open Greg's abdomen vertically. Blood, bile and contents gushed out from the wound.

The wound was perfectly in the centre of his trunk and the cut was straight, as if he had done it a thousand times.

"What the fuck! Stop it!" She yelled.

He turned to her showing her face. Blood was splattered on his face, his eyes were dark and soulless. He looked like a monster, inhumane in every way possible. There was a slight shake in his body as the adrenaline rushed through him.

Selene took back a step when he took a step towards her. He stopped and turned to the dead Greg in the car.

"Can't forget this," She heard him mutter before slashing the neck of the already dead guy.

She whimpered as the horror took place in front of her. Blood slowly started leaking out of the closed car door. She saw most gruesome deaths before but nothing compared to how Keir enjoyed when he killed him.

He took large steps towards her. She put on her guard ready to run or fight back if he lays a finger on her but he didn't.

He just stood there staring at the ground and breathing deeply. Selene didn't utter a word as he was deep in his own thoughts.

He looked up from the ground to face her. The inhumane demeanour, the dead eyes, the darkness all slowly started to fade. His eyes even bore shame and disgust for a few seconds before they vanished into the black holes.

He gave her a sickening smile, "Looking forward to working with you, Ms. Sherman," He said before walking past her and disappearing into the thin air.

***

Selene paced on the ground looking at the distant Mercedes now and then. She was scared to go in and face Haden. He would guess something is wrong when he notices her pale face.

She could just leave Greg and the car and pretend like this never happened. But her conscience was against it.

She can't take care of his body either. There were too many cases already linked to her. She can't be accounted for Keir's carelessness.

"Selene?" She froze on the spot when Haden's voice came behind her.

She turned around to face him assuming he was fuming for abandoning him. But he wasn't, his drunken ass was supported by a short brunette woman who looked equally stuporous.

"Why didn't you come back?"

"Uh- Greg didn't answer his phone so I was waiting for him to show up."

He waved his arm down, "Fuck him! We don't deal with lazy, worthless, non punctual dealers. It's off. The deal's off! Tell him," He yelled, his words came out rolled yet fluent for a drunk man.

"I will," She nodded, glancing at the woman at his side. She was puffing the cigarette nodding to whatever Haden was saying.

"Do you want me to drive you home?" She asked him.

He laughed and giggled, obviously drunk behind his wits.

"Uh- actually," He pointed his index finger between the woman and him, suggesting that they will be spending the night together.

"Oh! Right. Okay." Selene nodded animatedly. At least odds were in her favour now. Drunk Haden is better to manage than the sober one.

He took out the car keys from his pocket and threw them at her to catch it.

"You go safe okay?" He said, groggily.

"Okay, Haden. Don't worry."

"You text me, text me! When you reach. Alright? Okay." He blabbered and turned around, "Safey, safey Selene," He sang as him and the woman stumbled along to the back of the club.

Selene released a sigh of relief. She walked to Haden's car and glanced at the black car one last time.

It's time to ignore her conscience and leave Greg to be discovered by the cops. She can still be in danger as he came out to meet her but there's no evidence connecting to her and preferably she'll keep it that way.

May Greg rest in peace!
