Taste Of An Unattainable Future

"Do you think this is too much?" showed Harry Louis another shirt he was trying on in a shop.

"If you button it up a bit more it might be legal" commented Louis on the flowery shirt.

"Are you saying my chest is too sexy to be legal?" smirked Harry actually at him and Louis was more than just surprised.

"No, but little kids could be traumatised by that much naked skin" saved Louis his own ass.

"Or handsome boys could be distracted by it" winked Harry at him.

"Since when do you wanna attract handsome guys? Weren't you all about innocence and waiting?" wondered Louis, jealousy pooling in his stomach.

"Yes, but you were right with one thing. I won't meet anyone by just waiting around. I have to live my life. Why not show what I have?" explained Harry to him as he walked back into the dressing room. Louis wanted to slap his former self. Why did he ever say that? Now he had to watch Harry seduce strangers.

"Then stick with those jeans. They show off your long legs" called Louis after him without thinking about it.

"Checked out my legs, huh?" chuckled Harry behind the curtains.

"They're longer than the Tower Bridge. Hard to miss" replied Louis sassily.

"Then I maybe shouldn't wear them even tighter with that shirt, right?" walked Harry out of the dressing room and Louis was speechless. Harry was wearing freaking tight black skinny jeans and a short-sleeved blouse that was only halfway closed, showing off Harry's toned chest. Louis' throat was definitely dry by now. This should be illegal.

"If you wanna get laid, you maybe should. If not, then I'd say stick with your old clothes" croaked Louis out.

"Well, about that ..." lost Harry all of his confidence again but was interrupted by a cell phone ringing. Louis watched him intensely while Harry searched for his phone.

"Hello? Mum?" answered Harry the call. "No, I'm in town with Louis. I'd love that. Um, I can ask him. Yeah, see you in a few".

"Ask me what?" Louis wanted to know nosily.

"Um, my Mum's in town and she wants to see me and well, err ... she asked if you wanna join us. Just because we're already in town together, of course, and yeah ... you don't have to though" stumbled Harry over his words.

"Let's go then. Your mum is waiting" stood Louis up from his seat.

"I wanna buy those first" pointed Harry at his skinny jeans and the blouse.

"Then hurry up, Harold" urged Louis him, ignoring the thought of Harry seducing people in that outfit.

Quickly, Harry changed back into his normal already too-tight jeans and the cuddly sweater from before and bought the clothes before the two boys made their way out of the shop towards the meeting point with Harry's mother. To say Louis was scared was a huge understatement. He was shitting his pants. This was Harry's mother. As in the mother of his roommate, he was one-sidedly bonded to. This was freaking scary.

They arrived at the bakery and walked inside. At one table a woman was waiting with a smile on her face. Louis could immediately see the similarity to Harry. Bright green eyes, dark auburn-brown curls and a dimply friendly smile. The Styles genes were positively cursed.

"Sweetheart, I missed you" stood Harry's mother up to hug her son.

"I missed you too, Mum" hugged Harry her back.

"You have to be Louis" she faced Louis after breaking the embrace with Harry.

"I am. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Styles" said Louis politely.

"Please Dear, call me Anne" pulled Anne him into a hug, taking him by surprise but he melted into the embrace.

"Do you want anything, Mum?" asked Harry attentively.

"No, thanks, Darling. I'm good. But if you want anything it's my trait" pointed Anne at her cake and took out her purse.

"You don't have to pay for me too. I can ...".

"But I want to, Love" cut Anne Louis off.

"Thanks, Mum" took Harry the money and went over to the counter, leaving Louis alone with his mother.

"I'm so glad to finally get to know you. Harry told me a lot about you" sat Anne back down.

"Probably only bad things" forced Louis a laugh, thinking about all the discussions between them as he sat down in front of her.

"No, Dear. He only raves about you. He told me how funny and caring you are. How loyal you are to your friend Zayn and how you have the right amount of pride to do the right thing. He told me that you support him in everything he does and encourages him to be whoever he wants to be no matter what anyone else says. Am I close?" listed Anne all the things Harry had told her about Louis, probably sensing his nerves.

"Um wow, I mean ... wow" was Louis speechless. He didn't know Harry had that good of an opinion of him. He thought it was more the opposite.

"You didn't know that; right?" tilted Anne her aside.

"Not really. I mean, we get along very well but that surprised me. I'm not as great as he makes me out to be though. I'm just ... normal" played Louis with his fingers insecurely.

"And what is wrong with being normal?" asked Anne pointedly.

"Nothing. I didn't mean it like that. I meant I'm not like ... you know ... anything special" fought Louis for the right words but just gave up.

"I'm sure he begs to differ" winked Anne at him.

"Wh ...".

"Here you go" placed Harry a piece of chocolate cake in front of Louis and sat down next to him with his strawberry one.

"How did you know what I wanted?" looked Louis confusedly at Harry.

"You love chocolate cake. That's not a big secret, Boobear" grinned Harry at him.

"I never told you that, Harold. Did you stalk me or what?" smirked Louis at Harry.

"I would never do that. It's just a simple plain right obvious fact about you" gasped Harry fakely offended.

"I know. I'm just messing with you" chuckled Louis lightly.

"Louis William Tomlinson, stop being so mean to me" acted Harry hurt but was grinning from ear to ear. Louis was still not used to Harry saying his full name that often.

"Harry!" gasped his mum shocked.

"What did I do?" looked Harry innocently at her.

"Nothing, Haz. All good" patted Louis Harry's hand, absently stroking over his clothed mark but he stopped as he felt Anne watching him.

"Great. What did you do without me? Hopefully, she didn't scare you away yet" asked Harry in a lighter tone now.

"Actually, she told me how much you admire me and my wonderful self" suppressed Louis his laugh.

"Mum!" exclaimed Harry betrayed.

"Sorry" grinned Anne sheepishly.

"It's okay. I know I'm fabulous" boasted Louis.

"And so humble" nudged Harry his side.

"That's my second name" winked Louis at him.

"I thought it was William" played Harry along.

"I lied" replied Louis neutrally.

"That's why we didn't bond. You're a liar" pretended Harry to be deeply hurt and Louis tried to ignore his aching heart.

"You got me there" forced Louis a laugh.

"Well, boys. How's Uni going so far?" made Anne her presence noticed.

"It's good. My teachers are amazing, and most people are pretty decent. Well, there's one professor who isn't really professional. She wants us to call her Cecilia. That's just weird" reported Harry weirded out.

Louis had heard about that specific professor before. Cecilia was someone who got way too personal with the students and was even hitting on them. His blood was boiling at the thought of her trying to hit on Harry. If she really did that, she would die.

"I made great friends, too. Liam and Shawn are pretty amazing, and Zayn is just like Louis. Well, almost. Criminal buddies, right?" turned Harry his face around to Louis now.

"Almost. It was crime buddies or partners in crime, Love. Simply best friends. He is the person I trust the most outside of my family. I have his back and he got mine. Always" corrected Louis him and then faced Anne again.

"Sounds like a great friendship. What about the other two? Shawn and Liam?" Anne wanted to know curiously.

"Funnily enough they are pretty much alike in many ways. Both love science and exploring stuff but can be really fun and they have amazing dormmates" told Harry her with a laugh.

"Wait a second, you told her so much about me but nothing about the others? Am I that special, yeah?" realised Louis dumbfoundedly.

"You're my dormmate. Of course, I talk more about you and your mess" replied Harry cheekily.

"I'm not that bad" claimed Louis.

"You never make your bed; your stuff is lying around everywhere, and you never want to stand up in the morning, so you stay in bed until I drag you out of it" pointed Harry out.

"You wanna be with someone else then?" asked Louis honestly interested.

"No, never" smiled Harry at him, warming Louis' heart with his words.

"I freaking hope so. I pretty much love him. Don't scare him off, Darling" threw Anne in.

"How could you seduce her that fast?" wondered Harry amused.

"I have my ways" smirked Louis but had actually no clue.

"He's a charmer," told Anne her son before facing Louis again. "You're probably very desired".

"Not as far as I know" denied Louis uncomfortably.

"Everybody loves you, Lou. God, you're so blind sometimes" snorted Harry.

"Oh really? Name one" challenged Louis him.

"Zayn".

"Likes someone else".

"Àmber".

"Has a girlfriend, duh".

"Niall".

"Are you freaking kidding me?".

"You're so damn stubborn" huffed Harry in defeat.

"Same goes for you" shot Louis him a satisfied look.

"Are you done with your bickering yet? I wanted to see the town" interrupted Anne them.

Both boys fell silent and just ate their cake. After they were finished, they showed Anne around the parts of the town they already knew about. The pedestrian street, the bookstore, their café, the art museum, which reminded him of something he wanted to do, the park and last but not least, their dorm back at the Uni building.

"I really don't know why you're complaining. The room isn't that messy" commented Anne on the state of their dorm room.

"Because I clean it up every day" countered Harry stubbornly.

"Don't be so annoying, Darling. Give Louis some peace" retorted Anne cheekily.

"Did you two team up against me now?" huffed Harry sulky.

"As if we would ever do that" grinned Anne amused.

"Oh, you would" asserted Harry.

"Don't sulk now, Dear. Better hug me" opened Anne her arms wide for her son.

"Fine" grumbled Harry and just hugged his mum tightly while Louis only stood there, watching them interact.

As much as he hated it and tried not to, Louis really enjoyed Anne's company and spending time with Harry and his mother. It felt right even though Louis knew it wasn't. This one single day with Harry's Mum made Louis want him even more. Now he wanted Harry to be his soulmate, his one and only, more than ever before but the sad truth was, they weren't meant to be and all of Louis' dreams would stay exactly that. Dreams.
