In The Moonlight

After asking Harry out on a Date, Louis had searched and planned for hours to create a date-worthy evening. He wanted it to be perfect for Harry and not just mediocre okay with regard to further dates that would be better. Louis was still shocked he had actually asked Harry out on a date in the first place, which was stupid given Louis had already sucked him off on New Year's Eve.

But for some reason asking him out officially was terrifying and that's why he was stunned how easily he had asked him the first morning of the new year. Harry was just coming out of the bathroom looking all cute and adorable and it burst out of Louis like a tidal wave. The moment it was out he had slapped his hands over his mouth, regretting his forwardness, but Harry had taken both of his hands into his own big hands, pecked his lips and beamingly agreed on going out with him.

Wrecking his brain for ideas only led to Louis slamming his head on the table and to despair. He knew he could go with a classic romantic dinner date and Harry would be happy about it, but Louis wanted something special. Something more Harry. Something that showed how much Louis cared and knew about him. That the Date was specifically for Harry and no one else. Louis knew he sounded crazy by now.

The next day, Louis was getting ready in Zayn's dorm for their Date. He had finally found the perfect place to go and the only possible day was today. Straightening out his dark blue shirt with the black collar, Louis stared at his reflection in Zayn's huge mirror. This was the first time in years Louis was wearing skinny jeans again, that hugged his curves perfectly. It felt weird to wear them again, but Harry had asked him before why Louis had changed his style so drastically. Maybe he would get it tonight.

"Tommy, you look amazing. I'm proud of you for asking him out" eyed Zayn the outfit from his lying position on the bed.

"Thanks. I'm freaking nervous and don't know why" buttoned Louis his shirt up fully.

"Because you are you. There's no other reason. You don't have to be nervous or afraid. You're already bonded and in a relationship. Hell, you spent your birthday together and New Year's Eve, away from us I might add. I don't wanna know what you did" lost Zayn track of his original thought.

"No, you don't" winked Louis at him through the reflection of the mirror.

"Oh My Gosh! So, you did the dirty?!" gasped Zayn shocked.

"Not like you might think" replied Louis and now turned around to him.

"You mean not the full dirty but part of it?" hooked Zayn interested.

"You could say that" pocketed Louis his hands in his jeans.

"Damn, I did not expect that so early" marvelled Zayn in honest surprise.

"Believe me, me neither. But it happened and it was great. End of story now. Better tell me if those jeans are really a good idea" pointed Louis at his black skinny jeans.

"Well, how shall I say that?" dragged Zayn his answer out extra-long to rile Louis up. "Your arse looks fabulous and I might kill for your thick thighs and oh, that outfit brings out your petite waist perfectly. Short, a dream".

"Zayn" whined Louis and buried his face in his hands.

"I know you're insecure about your features, but you don't have to be. Be proud of your body, Tommy. People would kill for that" comforted Zayn his friend.

"I'm trying but it's not that easy with those words still in my head" admitted Louis insecurely.

"I understand. They made our lives pretty hard, especially yours, but it's in the past. We can move on from it. You have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. And now go. Your date is waiting" walked Zayn over to him and pulled Louis into his arms.

"Thanks, Joey. What would I do without you?" thanked Louis him gratefully.

"Wallow in self-pity and sorrow. Now go" slapped Zayn Louis' bum playfully.

"Oi, that's mine. Hands off" glared Louis jokingly at him, grabbing for his coat.

"You won't say that to Harry later tonight" called Zayn after him and Louis just flipped him off blindly.

Walking down to his own dorm Louis felt his palms getting sweaty and his heart started to beat faster in his chest. Arriving at the door, he knocked with a shaky hand and waited for Harry to open the door. When Harry stepped out of the room and into the light, Louis' breath was knocked out of his lungs. He looked absolutely beautiful. Dressed in tight white skinny jeans, a simple black shirt and a flowery blazer, Harry looked like a prince to Louis. He simply couldn't believe his luck.

"Wow, you look amazing" breathed Louis out.

"Thanks. You too" blushed Harry and eyed Louis' outfit.

"Shall we?" offered Louis him his arm. Harry nodded and linked their arms together.

On the way to their destination, they fell into an easy conversation about their day and other things. Louis loved how uncomplicated it was with Harry and that it never got awkward. Still, Louis felt his nervousness coming back the closer they got. The fear of ruining the Date before it even really started by simply misjudging Harry's character, ate him alive from the inside out.

"Lou, where are we going?" wondered Harry when they were still not there.

"Patience, Love" winked Louis at him, overplaying his nerves.

"We're close to the ice-skating hall. Please, tell me we're not going there? I'm too clumsy for ice-skating and don't wanna break a leg" tugged Harry on Louis' arm.

"First of all, it's way too late for that. And second, I think we should do this another time for you to lose your fear of falling down, now that you mentioned it" tried Louis to bite down his laugh.

"Oh God, no" gasped Harry scared.

"Don't worry, Love. Where we're going it's warm and no chance for you to fall down. Ah, look at this. We're here" stopped Louis in his tracks.

"Why are we standing in front of the bookstore?" eyed Harry the familiar building of the small bookstore they have been in before.

"Because we're about to go inside, duh" managed Louis to sound indifferent, but he was freaking out on the inside.

Like a gentleman, Louis opened the door for Harry and then followed him inside. There were around fifteen other people sitting in a semi-circle facing a little podium. With a confused look on his face, Harry sat down next to Louis, who had spotted a familiar face amongst the other people.

"Hey, Nikki. Didn't know you'd be here too" greeted Louis their friend.

"Of course, I would. I love her, but I did not expect you two to be here. Are you on a Date?" Nikki wanted to know excitedly.

"We are, but I don't know what's going on" blushed Harry a bit.

"Wait, so you don't know who's here tonight?" stared Nikki at him in disbelief.

"No?! That's what I just said" replied Harry dumbfounded.

"I didn't tell him. I wanted to surprise him" let Louis her know.

"It's gonna be a big surprise" grinned Nikki knowingly.

"What's that supposed to mean?" furrowed Harry his eyebrows together.

"You'll see" turned Nikki back to the podium when it fell silent in the room.

Curious, Harry looked at the front and Louis just watched his expression change from confusion to realisation in one split second when a wavy-haired ginger woman appeared on the podium with a book in her hand. Louis realised he had never even seen a picture of her before.

"You brought me to see Violetta Clarke?" asked Harry in a whisper, totally stunned.

"Um yes? Is that okay?" became Louis insecure again.

"Okay? Louis, she's my biggest idol and all-time favourite author. This is more than okay" beamed Harry happily, taking all of Louis' fears away.

The book reading started, and Louis relaxed immediately. Violetta Clarke read out of her new book Curly, Blue and Alexa. It was a very cute story about two boys pining after each other for years without the other one knowing, and they only get together thanks to the one's dog. It was one of her shorter ones but not any less interesting without huge drama.

But no matter how great the story was, Louis found himself focusing more on Harry the whole time. He watched his amazed expression and how spellbound he was listening to her, completely sunken into the story of two meant to be people in a world without soulmate marks and bonds. The fact that Harry was obsessed with her books about realities without soulmates was still something Louis wasn't quite used to. It contradicted the view of life Harry had had when they first met. It was a mystery to him.

After the reading, a signing took place. Everyone was standing in line and due to it being an intimate very small event every single person got the chance to talk to Violetta. Harry next to him was bouncing on the spot excitedly and Louis just smiled to himself at that action.

"Hi, I'm Violetta. How's your name?" reached Violetta her hand out for Harry to shake and for whatever piece she was supposed to sign.

"His name is Harry and I'm Louis" stepped Louis forward as Harry just stared at her in pure shock.

"Beautiful names, both of you. You don't have to be nervous, Harry. I won't bite you" smiled Violetta friendly at him.

"Sorry, I um ... forgot for a second this isn't a dream" cleared Harry his throat while Louis handed her Harry's favourite book of hers. A coffee cup full of problems.

"It's okay. So, is this your favourite book?" signed Violetta the book.

"Yes, it actually is, but I didn't bring it with me" looked Harry confused at the book.

"No, that was me. Asking you to take it with you would've ruined the surprise" noted Louis smugly.

"Oh, this was a surprise? That explains why he's so out of it. Am I assuming right you're on a date?" Violetta wanted to know interestedly.

"Yes" was it now Louis' turn to blush.

"And you brought him to one of my readings?" raised Violetta an eyebrow at him in question.

"He loves your books so I thought it might be a good idea" explained Louis awkwardly.

"It was" squeezed Harry his hand.

"This was so thoughtful of you. I'm impressed" marvelled Violetta impressed. "Boys like you are rare".

"Yes, and he is mine" clung Harry to Louis' side.

"Awe, don't worry, Baby. No one will take me away from you" cooed Louis at him, being touched by his jealousy.

"You're so adorable. No need to worry, Harry. He's yours and I'm not really looking for a guy" told Violetta him in a hushed voice.

"This explains a lot" was Louis funnily not even surprised.

"You mean me writing so many gay stories? Yeah, it's kinda a dead giveaway, isn't it?" chuckled Violetta amused.

"It is, yeah" laughed Louis carefreely.

"Not for me" pouted Harry cutely.

"Because you're oblivious sometimes, Sweetheart" poked Louis Harry's nose.

"Just because you're not very clear" countered Harry and well, he had a point.

"At least, it's not that obvious although I write an annoying amount of gay boy stories" made Violetta fun of herself.

"It's not annoying. I love it. We needed that. Your stories are so good and realistic. I'm your biggest fan" contradicted Harry her in a heartbeat.

"Nikki begs to differ" threw Louis in cockily.

"Who's Nikki?" hooked Violetta curiously.

"The young lady in line right behind us, patiently waiting to get her time with you" explained Louis cheekily.

"Louis, I swear one day I'm gonna hit you" huffed Nikki close behind them.

"Come over here, Nikki" waved Violetta her over.

"Um ... Hi" blushed Nikki embarrassed.

"Please, don't get all shy on me now" took Violetta a hold of her hands.

When their hands touched Louis couldn't believe his eyes. On both wrists of the girls, black lines appeared and the words Um and Please showed up. Both girls stared at the words before blushing furiously and letting go of each other. Harry just gaped at the scene.

Louis nudged Harry's side and leaned closer to his ear. "We should leave and give them some time alone. They just bonded".

"Yeah, you're right" nodded Harry still shocked.

Unnoticed, they crept away and left the bookstore. No matter what just happened, Louis could ask Nikki about it tomorrow. Now it was time for part two of the night. Straightway, Louis turned into the street right next to them and led Harry towards a nice little restaurant. Inside Louis told a waiter his name and they were brought to the table he had reserved before. He pulled Harry's chair back so he could sit down before sitting down in his own seat. After a short time, they ordered their meals and when they arrived the boys started to eat hungrily. By now Louis was calm and not nervous anymore.

"I can't believe you did all this" spoke Harry up when he had finished eating.

"Um, sorry?" grinned Louis sheepishly.

"Don't say that. You're amazing, Lou. You planned all this and just for me. I'm out of words" told Harry him impressed.

"I just tried to make this night unforgettable and perfect for you" heated Louis' cheeks up under the praise.

"It is perfect. I still can't believe I met Violetta Clarke. How did you even remember that she is my favourite author? I only mentioned that once forever ago" Harry wanted to know intrigued.

"As if I would forget something like that. I listen to everything you say, no matter how random you think it is. It's important to me" admitted Louis fondly.

"You're amazing, Lou" sighed Harry out dreamily.

"I'm really not, but thanks" mumbled Louis.

"Yes, you are. Why can't you see that?" Harry insisted, sounding a bit sad.

"It's hard, but I'm working on it" offered Louis him a smile.

"Good. I'll tell you how amazing you are every single day from now until you believe me and beyond" made Harry a promise, which caused Louis to blush again.

"Do whatever you want, Haz. Come on, it's late. We should head home" cleared Louis his throat.

Against Harry's protest, Louis paid the bill for both of them and then helped Harry into his coat. He slid into his own and then left the restaurant with Harry. The night was dark but pretty mild for the beginning of January. Out of reflex, they took the way through the park close to the Uni building. Louis intertwined their fingers and led Harry over the little magical stone bridge. The moonlight was shining down on them and Louis felt like he was in a dream.

It turned even more into a dream when Harry stopped in his tracks, turned Louis around to him and crashed their lips together in an eager kiss. Immediately, Louis kissed back and their tongues danced together in sync. Sometimes Louis was overwhelmed and straight out confused by their synchrony.

Normally, such synchrony takes over the years and it develops a certain routine. With them, however, everything was in sync right from the start and they fell directly into this confidentiality and familiarity. Maybe it was Louis' ignorance of soulmates that he did not understand. But maybe there was something different about them compared to everyone else. But how could he find out and did he even want to know the answers? Right now, the only thing that mattered was him and Harry kissing in the moonlight.
