Everything was cold. I struggled to keep a float in the dark and freezing waters. I was wearing gloves, to prevent frost-bite, which made it hard to grab onto the ice. As I pushed down on the ice to get out, it broke and I plunged once more into the darkness.
"Ace! Ac..." I gurgled, desperately trying to grab a hold of the sledge.
Ace must have heard my cries as he began to slowly crawl towards me. He reached forward, just enough for me to be able to grab his harness. Ace stepped backwards and pulled me with him. I yanked myself over the ice sheet and Ace pulled me onto a patch of thicker ice. I buried my face into his fur as I regained my breath and balanced myself. As I stood up, Ace took his place at the front of the sledge.

"It seems like Lani O'Brien has been able get out off the waters with the help of one of her lead dogs. She seems to be unhurt and is continuing with the race-"
"Ace!" Ryder and Lily chorused. They knew it was. Lily throw her arms around Ryder.
"Who wants to go meet that crazy idiot at the finish line?" She asked
