I was sure I was ready for the race. I'd practiced for the passed week and, with the nearing date, was ready to go. Lily hadn't talk to me. I didn't talk to her. Ryder seemed quiet but otherwise remain like his normal self.
I had five days left. I was going to sleep at home then in the morning leave for the race. I'd be going to Anchorage in one of the truck-type vehicle that took competitor to the start of the race. We would travel day and night, with dogs, until we got there.
I decided to have an early night as didn't want to be tired. I got into bed and lay down, waiting for Ryder to join me.
"Lani," I heard him whisper as he crawled into bed
"What?" I asked
"Be careful..."
"You already told me that,"
"I know. But I wanted to make sure you remembered,"
"I promise, I will."
"Take care of Ace, too. And Jack. And Honey. And the rest of them,"
"I will,"
"Also, Lani..." He started
"Yeah," I replied
"I love you," he smiled, followed by a kiss he lay on my lips
"I love you, too, Ryder,"
