Jesse walked up to the coffee shop Lukas and she had decided to meet up at. It was a quaint little cafe, a perfect spot for a nice cup of coffee to catch up no matter the weather. The bell above the door rang as Jesse walked in, signaling that she had entered. Jesse turned her green gaze to look around, trying to find the mop of blond hair and blue eyes. They fell on the young man, sitting in a small corner spot next to a large window. It was a table for two with a beautiful view of the city while sitting right in the sunlight. Jesse smiled as she walked over and sat down in the free chair. "Hey," she greeted. "Hi, Jesse," Lukas replied, a smile coming to his face. "Good choice, Lukas. I've come here a few times with my friends, and the coffee and food here is really good," Jesse said. "Yeah, I like coming here every now and then to work. It's a nice little place, and there's something about it that really helps me with my writing," Lukas responded.
"Speaking of, how's that book of yours coming?" Jesse asked. "It's going good, almost done with it," Lukas replied. At that moment, a waitress came over holding a pen and notepad. "Hi, I'm Tiffany. What would you like?" she asked in a soft voice. "I'll get a latte please," Lukas replied. "And for you?" Tiffany asked Jesse. "I think I'll get a french vanilla cappuccino," Jesse replied. Tiffany swiftly wrote down the two coffee names. "Anything to eat?" she asked. "Let's try the Dutch waffle with maple syrup," Lukas replied. "And I'll have your assorted macaroons," Jesse added. Tiffany, once again, quickly wrote down the rest of the order. "Alright, your order will be out shortly," Tiffany said before walking away. Jesse turned back to meet Lukas' blue gaze.
"So why'd you move out here after being so adamant before?"
Jesse took a deep breath. "I figured you'd ask that. Well, I guess I really have to explain it to you."
"It was almost a year after you had left. I recently graduated college, and I decided to apply for a job at Soren's Pictures. Of course, they wanted me at the headquarters of the company, here in this city. I asked if I could be put in a different, less city-like location, but they insisted I move out here. So, I packed my bags and moved. I mainly do jobs for higher level businesses, mainly for their billboards and advertisements. But I occasionally get a job for something smaller. Which I quite enjoy. I remember when I was given an assignment to go around the city and take photos of some of the best aspects of it, to promote more urbanization to this place. I looked all over and tried to time my shots to the best of my ability, and this was one of the places I decided to photograph. I was told this place was the best shot out of all of them. That's basically my life here in the city now."
"Wow. Sounds awesome. Better than being cooped up in a chair and staring at the screen of a laptop for hours on end," Lukas said. "Well, you might think the opposite when you see the gas bill," Jesse replied. Both of them burst out laughing at the same time. "Wow, yeah, that must be pretty annoying," Lukas gasped out in between laughs. "Yeah, it really can be. Which makes me thankful my job can pay so much," Jesse replied. Tiffany then walked up, carrying a tray with two coffees and desserts on it. "Latte and Dutch waffle," she said, placing the food and coffee in front of Lukas. "And a french vanilla cappuccino with assorted macaroons," she finished, setting Jesse's food and drink in front of her. "Thank you," both Lukas and Jesse said in sync. Instantly they met gazes and lightly chuckled. Tiffany smiled brightly before saying 'you're welcome' then walked away. The two sipped their hot coffees and ate their food, occasionally stopping to converse, before going back to their brunch.
Finally, a ding came from Lukas' watch. He looked down at his wrist to see he and Jesse had been talking for almost three hours. "I'm guessing you gotta go?" Jesse asked. "Yeah. But it was wonderful speaking to you again, Jesse. We should do this again," Lukas replied. Jesse smiled her bright smile, making Lukas' heart start to race. "Yeah, that sounds great. I'll see ya around, Lukas," she said before going up to the counter to pay for her meal. Lukas walked up and put a hand over her own, which had just reached into her pocket to bring out her wallet. "Let me pay. It's the least I can do after how I left things," he said. Jesse averted her gaze, her cheeks starting to glow a faint pink. "Thank you, Lukas," she softly said. Lukas smiled as he grabbed his wallet and paid for his and Jesse's meals before they walked out of the small coffee shop.
"Thanks for everything Lukas," Jesse said. "No, thank you. Even after how I treated you, you are giving me a second chance. That's something that I will be eternally grateful for," Lukas replied. Jesse smiled. "You talk way too much," she said. "Maybe I do, but every word I say has a meaning," he replied. Jesse and Lukas shared a smile before saying their goodbyes and heading their separate ways.
