The night sky glittered with the faint light of the stars and the moon shining above. The light was beat out, however, by the blinding lights of the city below. Skyscrapers, true to their name, reached high into the night sky, from the ground it looked like you could touch the stars or take a nap in the crescent moon. The streets below were alive with honking cars, young adults hitting the town, and the sound of bars filled up with people watching the late night game.
A particular group of four friends were walking along the sidewalk together, reveling in the lights and sounds of the city as they made their way to a certain apartment complex where a party was being hosted. "Ohh I can't wait to get there and party! Man, we really need to thank Gabriel for inviting us," the brunette female of the group exclaimed. "Yeah, he always throws the best parties," a brunette male said. "Well if you're so excited about the party, Maya, then you should maybe stop bouncing around and save your energy for the dance floor," the black-haired male lightly teased. Maya stuck her tongue out at her friend in mock annoyance. "I think our buddy over here really deserves this party. He's been working so hard at his job, he barely gets a break!" the brunette male, known as Aiden, said as he threw his arm over the blond boy's shoulders. The blond smiled and did the same to Aiden.
"Well, to be honest, I don't think I'm working nearly hard enough," the blond said. "Are you kidding me? You work almost 24/7 on your book, you barely ever get any time to just hang out and have fun! Enjoy this night, because you deserve it, our aspiring author!" the black-haired male named Gill exclaimed. The blond smiled again and he ran ahead of his friends. "Race ya there!" he called over his shoulder. The other three ran after their friend, laughing all the way and complaining that it wasn't a fair game all the way until they reached the apartment complex. They walked up the stairs, going up multiple flights, before finally reaching the desired floor and apartment. Aiden knocked on the door a few times before stepping back. Loud music was coming from the other side of the door, and it only grew even louder when the door opened to reveal a man with dark skin, black hair and beard, warm chocolate eyes, and blue jeans with a turquoise flannel over a black undershirt.
"Hey, glad you could make it. Come in," he greeted with a warm smile. The four friends walked into the apartment, taking in all the sounds, sights, smells, and people surrounding them. It was packed, but that was to be expected at Gabriel's party. He didn't throw parties that often, but they were always a ball of fun and everyone he invited came unless a major issue came up. Maya immediately pulled Aiden over to the dance floor and the two started to dance. Gill walked up to a group of ladies and started trying out some of his new pick-up lines, leaving the blond alone. He looked around, trying to find someone he knew or something to do when he noticed a familiar mop of blond hair. The blond immediately turned and made his way over to where the other blond was. "Hey, Milo," he greeted with a smile. Milo turned around and his face lit up at seeing the blond in front of him. "Lukas!" he exclaimed, pulling the blond in for a side-hug and a pat on the back. "How're you doing? I hear you're working hard on that book of yours," Milo said. "Yeah. My friends thought I needed a break, so they took me out here," Lukas replied.
Milo nodded in response. "You do need a break. You spend almost every waking hour working on that book," he said. "What can I say? I love books, and I am loving this book I'm writing," Lukas replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "Well, you certainly need to learn the line between hard work and overworking yourself. Take a break once every now and then, let loose, live a little. Life's too short," Milo said. Lukas grinned at Milo before turning his gaze to look around at everyone around them. His gaze finally fell on a particular girl sitting with a redhead. There was something about her, something very familiar. "Hey, Milo, you know who that is?" Lukas asked, nodding his head in the direction of the girl. Milo followed his gaze and laid eyes on the girl. "Oh, I've seen her around. Never actually did catch her name though," he replied. Lukas then, having made up his mind, strode over to where the two girls were. "Hey," he greeted. The two women turned around, meeting his gaze. Lukas' eyes widened in shock.
"Y-You!?"
