Chapter 10
Groaning, Tiberius blinked his eyes open to find himself lying on his side inside a cage. Jumping to his feet, he frantically looked around at his surroundings. He was in a room with sunlight only streaming through three skylights. By the looks of things, it was late afternoon. Three of the walls in the small room were lined with cages. Bigger ones at the bottom, smaller ones on top. Most were empty but there were some inhabited by dogs, cats, parrots and a large assortment of rodents. All appeared frightened.
Just then, Tiberius heard a small whimper behind him. Looking over his shoulder, he grumbled, "This day literally can't get any worse..." Curled up in a tight ball at the back of their cage, Wendy was trembling all over and whimpering. Glancing up at the older hawk, she mumbled, "I wanna go home."
"How bout ya shut your trap and get a backbone while I think," Tiberius growled. That did the trick as Wendy let out a cry of terror and backed away from him. Rolling his eyes as he huffed, the old hawk was trying to figure out where in the world they were when the room door opened, allowing some more light in. Turning his head to the right, Tiberius saw a middle aged woman and man stride over to his cage, eager smiles on their faces...
