[Chapter 13] For Once In My Life...
"You cannot be serious!" Lily chuckled into her small paper cup full of her rapidly melting ice cream in the hot mid-summer air.
"What? I can't have a sensitive side!" Felix retorted, his cup fuller than hers.
"I'd hardly call that sensitive" he took a bite into her mouth. "More like, basic human empathy."
"Well I have to be nice to Teddy sometimes. Otherwise people would think I'm some cruel, unfeeling robot or something." Felix looked over at his date to gauge her reaction. Lily smiled softly at him and placed a hand on his upper arm.
"You're not cruel, Felix, you have to stop saying that about yourself." the blonde's face turned red at the praise. Lightly placing his right hand onto where Lily's rested on his shoulder.
"Thanks, Love, but I know what people think about me, honestly I'm surprised Billy let you go on this date." he deflected the topic back onto her. Thus far, the date has been a success! There were hardly any moments of awkwardness between them, conversation topics came easily and the two got to know each other like they had never before. Plus they had a good laugh when they saw a toddler being chased by a geese.
Overall a solid date!
They had settled down on a bench near an ice cream stand overlooking the small lake in the park. The sun was starting to set and Felix still hasn't gotten a chance to give Lily the bracelet he and Ted had spent way longer than necessary picking out for her.
The metal felt like fifty tons in his pocket.
Lily made a strained, high-pitched sound from the back of her throat and looked down. "Billy doesn't exactly know I'm here..." her voice got quieter and quieter as she spoke, like she was embarrassed or something? Felix didn't know why, in his opinion the twins spent too much time together to be considered normal. Getting away and having her own life was good for her.
"Oh, we're not running things by the boss anymore?" he teased, Lily lightly pushed at his shoulder with hers. They were holding hands at this point facing the lake. The setting sun reflects off the water. "Well if that's the case, he's probably not gonna like you coming home with this."
Felix pulled the gold charm bracelet out of pocket, the bright rays of light bounced off the shimmering accessory. Lily's eyes went wide as she ran her fingers across the expensive charms. Felix scanned her face for any desirable emotion, he got worried she didn't like the gift.
"Yeah I know I probably should've waited until your birthday to give you this but this just felt like the perfect time, you know!" he was rambling now and he knew it. "And feel no obligation to keep it! I'm pretty sure I still have the receipt and if not I could probably just give it to Cindy or something-"
"Felix, I love it, thank you." She cut him off softly. Craning her neck up to give him a peck on the cheek. The area where her lips touched burned wildly.
"I'm glad you liked it," his face was red. The blonde gestured toward her wrist, still laying in his lap. 'May I?' he silently asked with his eyes and the light grip on her fingers.
"Oh!" she pulled her wrist up and allowed him to clasp the gold onto her wrist.
Their hands stayed interlock afterwards. Lily turned to face the water while Felix couldn't take his eyes off of her. Her full cheeks and lips called out to him, practically begging him to kiss her.
Lily peaked at him in the corner of her eyes, catching him staring. Felix couldn't find it in himself to care though as she fully turned her face towards him. The calling was too loud to ignore.
Lightly grabbing her cheeks with both hands, Felix brough their faces close enough to where he could feel her softly gasp. He looked into green eyes, unmoving, as if asking a question. Lily nodded and closed the gap between them. Their lips melted together in a chaste, yet passionate, kiss.
Walking hand and hand up the long side walk to Lily's house, the couple strolled in comfortable silence. Reaching the large gate, Lily was hesitant to pull her hand away from his.
"I had a lot of fun today." she spoke shyly, even though she had no reason to at this point.
"Me too, we should do this again sometime. If the boss would allow that." he winked. Risky move, and if Jerome or Monty were here to see that he would fold in on himself. But the cringe move had the intended effect on Lily as she rolled her eyes playfully and giggled.
Leaving one last kiss on her forehead before letting her type in the code to the gate and unlocking their hands. "I'll see you around!" he shouted as Felix watched as she walked into the property until she was out of sight,
The front door of the large mansion slammed shut as the teenage girl who lived there rushed to the staircase. "Hi Mom!" Lily shouted into the general vicinity where she knew her mom was.
"Hi, Sweetie?" she responded back, not that her daughter could hear her, the girl was already in the hallway where her bedroom was.
Practically ripping the door to her room open, Lily slammed it with the same force, pressing her back against it. The girl was breathing heavily, not just because of the speed of which she ran to her room, but also because of the memory of Felix and their kiss.
Pausing for a moment to gather her breath and thoughts. Lily let out a very loud, high-pitched screech as she jumped up and down with joy. Her mind replayed the kiss over and over again, growing more and more giddy with each rewind.
The side door off to the side of the bedroom opened revealing Billy already in his pajamas. The Cheeto stained basketball shorts worked surprisingly well with his oversized 'I Paused My Game For This' tee shirt that he swears is ironic.
"Why are you screaming?" he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
"Sorry, did I wake you?"
"Kinda? But it was just a nap, you're good." her twin walked over to the bed in the center of the room and belly flopped onto the mattress. "Where were you today?" His speech was muffled by the blankets. Lily fidgeted with the bracelet absentmindedly.
"Out." On one hand she knew how her brother felt about Felix and didn't want to bombard him with the new development in their relationship, and on the other Lily wanted nothing more than to gush about her amazing date with her best friend. "With Felix..." She whispered. Hoping that if spoke quietly enough, then Billy maybe wouldn't hear her.
She was wrong.
"What?" He popped his head up from the floral covers and stared at his twin with undivided attention, making sure he heard what she had said.
"Felix asked me out yesterday and we had a great day." the blush returned to her cheeks as she spoke, remembering a couple hours prior. "We even saw a baby getting attacked by a goose!" she added in a fruitless attempt to bring him over to her side.
"Don't try to distract me with feral animals, you went out with Felix ?!"
Lily rolled her eyes and moved to take off her shoes. "Yes, Billy, we went on a date."
"A date?!?"
"That is what I said, yes."
"Did you guys kiss?" his voice went up an octave, eyes wide. Placing her shoes in the rack (pile) next to her door, Lily freezes, for the first time in the night the memory of their first kiss was tainted.
"So what if we did...?" her voice was just barely above a whisper.
"Lily!" Billy fully got up off the bed and marched over to his sister.
"What? What did I do wrong?" Lily crossed her arms and stared daggers into her brother's identical eyes.
"What about Nugget?"
"What about Nugget?" she retorted.
"Lils, he's crazy about you!" he stepped closer, eyes downcast. "And you know that."
"Just because he likes me doesn't mean I am obligated to like him back!" she argued, her patience running thin.
"Yeah, but you've been leading him on!"
"What!?" she yelled, the highest her voice has gone during this argument.
"Did you think Nugget wasn't gonna tell me about the kiss?" Now Billy crossed his arms and glared at her.
"I was drunk!"
"Were you drunk when you texted him all day the next day?"
Lily's face went red, not with embarrassment or shyness like she was with Felix, but with rage and sadness at the lack of support coming from her twin brother and bestfriend. "Get out."
"What?"
"Get the fuck out of my room Billy, right now!" she screamed into his face, her eyes flooding with tears that she refuses to let fall.
"Fine then!" He stomped towards the door that joined their rooms. "But don't come crying to me when he breaks your heart!" He yelled before slamming the door with enough force to loosen the hinges.
Lily was wrong for this im ngl
