(160) PoD: I Need a Hero
Grim ran as fast as he could on his four legs through the Main Street until he reached Sam's shop where the Surprise Team were making their final preparations. "Guys!" He skitted to stop, staring at four of them, and whistled. "Oh, wow!"
"What's up?" Ace grinned, spinning around to give Grim the full-body look. "How do we look?"
"You guys look great!" Grim turned at Epel who was sitting on a white horse. "Is...Is the horse necessary?"
Epel shrugged. "I mean...Princes are supposed to arrive on horseback, right?"
"Are they still doing that at this age though?" Ace commented.
"Oh, Monsieur Little Apple has put the most thought into his princely appearance," Rook said. "This imagination, effort, energy, and this preparation! It's all extremely très bien!"
"Not to mention, Leia is the hardest to handle among all the horses at the horse-riding club." Riddle approached the horse, running his hand down her mane. He looked up to Epel with a proud smile. "You've made a splendid point. Your riding ability is second to none."
Epel chuckled as he rubbed behind his neck sheepishly. "Hehe. Thank you very much."
"So, what are you doing here?" Ace looked at Grim. "Everything okay over there?"
Grim perked up as if finally remembered the reason he was there. "We're fine. But the ghost co-coordinator's judges are here to test your proposal."
"Wait! Now?!" Ace yelled.
"We tried to stall them but we can't do that anymore! We're in the final phase of the plan!" His ears and tail suddenly shot up. "Eek! They're coming."
"Grim, jump here!" Epel opened his arms and Grim leaped so he sat in front of Epel.
Three guard ghosts appeared through the trees. One of them, the center one was wearing a monocle and didn't bring anything, unlike the others who has their usual spear. "Are you humans part of the Surprise Team?"
"Yes!" Rook stepped forward, a hand on his chest as he bowed slightly. "We are very honored to be part of the wonderful plan to make this the best wedding the beautiful bride would ever dream of."
"And we're here to make sure just that." The ghost flew forward. "Now, I shall make the judgment for your proposal. Pretend I am the princess, and try proposing to me! If you can convince me of your seriousness in this plan, then I shall allow you to come to the wedding." He looked between the four of them, humming as he scored their appearance in their height. All of them had handsome faces and gorgeous attire, checking his boxes. But one did catch his attention immediately. "Starting with you! The one on the horse. Show me your serious proposal!"
Epel and Grim exchanged a glance before Epel sighed, "Well, here goes nothing." He guided Leia to step forward gently and he recite his proposal, "I will always keep you happy, princess. Because I'm the prince on the white horse, who will run any length to save his lover when they're in trouble! No matter what obstacles I face on my journey, I will never give up. I'll protect you from anything that tries to hurt you." He stopped in front of the judge, reaching out as he smiled. "I am the prince who is suited for you, my princess! Please, marry me!"
The two guard ghost clapped their hand as the judge nodded his head in satisfaction. "Such... Earnestness before me!"
Epel sighed in relief and stepped away to stand beside Ace. The judge then pointed at the gingerhead. "Now you! How are you supposed to be the prince's valet?"
"How am I the valet here?" Ace squawked.
"So you have also come to propose?" The judge hummed. "Very well. I will see your proposal, too."
Ace groaned and stepped forward. He closed his eyes as he spoke, "If you marry me, I can promise you every day will be fun." He opened his eyes slowly, staring at the judge, imagining he was someone else which made his heart race instead.
"Sure, if we're always together, there's gonna be times when we fight, but...when that happens, I'll always apologize." He reached for the judge's hands. "I'll hold you through the sad times and the hard times. I'll make sure the one I love is always smiling. I am the one suited to be your prince. So..." Letting go of a hand, he reached for his chin, raising it so they can stare into each other eyes. "Don't look at anyone else. Marry me."
One of the guards started to fan himself and even the judge started to get flustered. "You've truly conveyed how you'll always be thinking of your partner! I can tell that this is how you really feel."
Grim and Epel snickered. "Ace is showing off," Grim teased.
Ace glared at him, blushing heavily. "Shut up!"
Riddle stepped forward, patting Ace's shoulder. "It's okay to be yourself, Ace." He looked at the judge. "May I go next?"
The judge took a deep breath and let it out. "Okay. Let's hear your piece!"
Riddle knelt in front of him, taking one of the judge's hands and the other behind his back, remembering what Madison did when she purposed him back then. "I sincerely vow to you! I promise to never doubt nor hurt the one I love. For the sake of my spouse, I'd do anything within my power." He conjured a magic circle, summoning the bouquet of roses that had appeared earlier. He pulled it in front of him, offering it to the judge. "Please...would you choose me as your marriage partner?"
A guard shrieked and the other might even had a ghostly. "Go...Goodness..." The red-faced judge coughed in embarrassment. "Such trustworthiness...Even I find myself a little flustered."
"He's right," Epel exclaimed. "That was so cool...!"
Ace gave him applause. "Looks like Dorm Leader's being just as serious."
Riddle returned to them, blushing himself. "Cou-could you guys stop..."
"Wonderful, all three of you," Rook said as he stepped up. "Now it's my turn."
The judge cleared his throat, trying to compose himself. "They've set the bar very high. I won't allow for a half-hearted proposal!"
Rook cleared the throat. He had a hand on his chest and the other stretched out. It was as if the sky decided to pull the spotlight upon him. "You've been tormented by sorrow for hundreds of years. I shall express my affection for you with this poem I offer...
I wish to bring warmth to your cheeks, my dear
Long have your eyes only shed lonely tears
Oh, can they even see the happiness all around you?
Vibrant is the love blooming in our rendezvous
Ever so gently, let me take your face to rest upon my hands
Under my care, may your lapiz-lazuli gaze ever sparkle with hope and romance
Everyone was silent for a second, their breath was taken away.
Epel was the first to respond with a small, "Woah..."
Ace covered his mouth in an attempt to hide his blushing cheeks. "It's like... Just hearing it makes me embarrassed and fidgety..."
Riddle meanwhile, did some thought before something clicked. "Oh! I see!" He exclaimed. "If you take the first letter in each line... You'll get 'I LOVE U'!"
Everyone was as shocked as he was to the point one of the guards actually fainted. "NO WAY!"
"How did you do that?!" Grim yelled.
Rook chuckled. "Indeed. I'm glad you caught on, Roi des Roses." He turned back to the still awestricken judge. "How was it, Monsieur Judge? Was that still not enough? Then I shall move on to my next piece!"
Ah, it hurts to breathe
Like a thief in the night, you ran off with my heart
We can never return to-
The judge waved his hands. "Okay, okay! You can stop there! You've more than shown me your passion!" He floated a few steps back as he fixed his slightly skewed monocle. After clearing his throat he announced, "I can accept that you're all prepared, unlike the ones that came before. Even though half of you are just as small as the groom, you guys might have a chance to not ruin this."
You can hear a pin drop
The corner of Riddle's eyes twitched. "Huh?"
Ace stepped forward. "Pre-Prefect, calm down!"
Sparks could be seen between his fingers. "Did you just call me small?"
"He just doesn't realize how awesome you are," Ace said in a panic. "Oh shit...Oh shit..."
"HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO MY FACE!" The red-faced Riddle yelled, throwing his hand forward. "[OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!]"
"What?!"
Magic shot off from his hand and the magic circle locked around the judge's neck with a scream as a familiar red-and-black collar appeared.
The guard screamed. "Go back! Go back!" he yelled. "Sound the alarm! Don't let them come near the wedding!" And they flew off.
Ace groaned. "Prefect, you really put some research into that... Has it always bothered you?"
"It doesn't bother me!" Riddle yelled. "I just cannot allow people who judge others based on their appearance!"
Epel winched. "I-I get that, but..."
"They're going back to the campus!" Grim pointed at the escaped ghosts. "What are we going to do now?"
"Ah!" Riddle seemingly finally snapped out of his ranting phase, and let out a scream. "Great Seven! Dammit!"
Rook clapped his hand, gaining everyone's attention. He spoke in a serious and commanding tone. "Everyone, there's still time to stop the wedding." He reached his hand out, summoning an indigo magic circle. "[Accio, Mania!]" Something twinkled from the wood and a broom suddenly flew toward them. Without stopping it, Rook jumped onto the broom like he was on a surfing board. "Riddle, climb on. Ace, you ride with Epel and Grim."
Ace nodded "We've got no choice." The rest nodded at him in agreement. Riddle climbed onto the broom, sitting in front of Rook, while Ace rode behind Epel.
"Time for a full-frontal assault!" Ace shouted as Epel snapped the reign. Leia neighed and galloped off with Rook and Riddle flew above them.
Azul had to hold his anger when he and Chubby received the news. Chubby let out a sigh after finishing giving orders to the guard to raise the protection. He had no doubt that they would still try to interrupt the wedding, thus he didn't want to give any chances. "Looks like your Surprise Team didn't make the cut," he said.
Azul pushed his glasses up his nose. "Indeed, they did."
"I told you that was a bad idea." He looked around, at the hall that had been arranged to there was enough dancing room for the bride and groom. "But now, once this dance is over, Eliza can finally have her dream wedding."
Azul sighed. "Well, shall we put the show on the road?" He walked away. With a snap of a finger and a whisper of a spell, his clothes changed into a formal black tuxedo, matching with the rest of the Light Music Club members except Jamil who wore a glittery red one. "Play it cool guys."
"What about Riddle and the rest?" Kalim asked.
"They'll be here." Azul sat on his stop in front of the keyboard and then tapped his hidden earpiece. "Deuce. Is Jonah ready?"
"In a sec," Deuce answered through their connection as he was in the other room along with the rest, watching as Idia tapped his laptop with incredible speed, deciphering the codes that scrolled down the screen and transferring it into a chip that would be connected to Ortho.
Suddenly a sign of 'CODING COMPLETED' appeared in front of the screen and Idia let out a sigh. "Okay. We're set." Taking the chip he put it in the middle of Jonah's rose hair decoration. It blinked once and at the same time, Ortho blinked, signing that they were connected. "Make sure to always look at her or else Ortho can't connect to her."
Jonah nodded. "Okay."
He turned to Ruggie. "Are you sure this is going to work? Can you dance?"
"No." Ruggie grinned. "But I'm at least slightly better than you."
Jonah nodded again and made his way to the front of the door. Deuce tapped his earpiece as he and Silver grabbed a handle of each door. "We're set."
Azul nodded and looked at the band. "Ready?"
They all nodded, ready in their position. With Azul playing the first melody and the light dimmed down, Jamil brought the mic up. "Ladies and gentlemen. Ghosts and humans." He said. "We would like to present this song to Princess Eliza and Captain Jonah."
Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?
Some ghosts aimed the spotlight onto the door of the opposite side, revealing Jonah and Eliza on each side. Slowly they started to walk toward each other. Jonah kept his head up and eyes straight as the chip blinked, scanning Eliza's movement from afar and making Ortho follow her movement.
Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?
When they stopped in front of each other, Ruggie took his position in front of Ortho and waved his magical pen, chanting, "[Laugh With Me.]" Golden threads appeared around his body and shot out toward Jonah, binding them together.
Ruggie/Jonah bowed while Eliza/Ortho curtsied. "Princess Eliza. May I have this dance?"
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Eliza/Ortho took his hand and they were pulled into a dance. Jonah felt his body move on his own, but he knew Ruggie had good control with his unique magic, so he put his trust fully in him.
"So, you can dance?" Eliza asked.
"Not really," Jonah chuckled sheepishly. "But I'm willing to try my best for you, Princess."
Eliza giggled. "How sweet of you."
Late at night I toss and I turn, and I dream of what I need
Jamil glanced back as Kalim raised his drumsticks. With a patting of 'one, two, three' Jamil shouted. "HIT IT!"
From the side, Malleus waved his hand. Magic swirled in the sky like a light show, giving it more of a funky atmosphere as Eliza/Ortho and Jonah/Ruggie's dance became more animated.
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong, and he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
Outside the rescue calvary was finally about to make their way up to campus. The guard took notice of them and screamed his order, "Archer, to the ready!"
Ghosts lined up in front of the campus, all geared up with their crossbow, already loaded with ghoul magic. Grim let out a scream. "Take cover!"
As the shower of magic rained upon him, Ace pointed his magical pen above them. "[Protego!]" A dome shield appeared, protecting those who were riding Leia under it. Meanwhile, Riddle maneuvered between the attacks, occasionally shooting back, but Rook was on the full offense, holding his magical pen as if it was a bow and pulling his magic before letting it go like an arrow to combat against the shower.
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure, and it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
Larger than life
Jonah/Ruggie spun Eliza/Ortho around as he let go. The princess was quick to recover as she noticed a blue rose on the floor. Feeling coy, she picked up the flower and held it with her teeth and she clapped her hands, changing the vibes into more of a tango.
Somewhere after midnight in my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach, there's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet
"Get out of our way!" Riddle yelled as he threw his bouquet, messing with the guard's formation like fallen bowling pins. Waving his magical pen, he conducted his flower and vines to grow, trapping the guards in its hug. The vines pushed the front door open and the squad ran in.
However, from the top of the stairs, more ghosts appeared with a boiling cauldron. "Drop it!"
Rook let out a gasp. "Riddle!"
"I know!" He yelled back. With a scream, he flew straight to the guards, striking them with their bodies and forcing them to drop the sticking liquid upon all of them. It was to their luck that it wasn't something dangerous to humans other than the said stickiness gloop.
"Prefect! Rook!" Ace screamed.
"Forget about us, Monsieur Heart!" Rook yelled as he tried to get off from the trap. "Epel! Go!"
"Right!" Epel pulled the reign again and maneuvered their way away from the mess as more guards chased them from behind.
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear there is someone somewhere watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood
(Like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood, like a fire in my blood)
As Eliza/Ortho spit the rose off, she pulled Jonah closer and dipped Jonah/Ruggie, much to a lot of people's surprise. Her face got closer, but Jonah thought quickly and snatched up the rose. He bit it, in a similar manner as Eliza, shrugging playfully. Eliza was surprised for a second but took the teasing before pulling him once again in a waltz.
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure, and it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
Ace, Epel, and Grim galloped down the hallways as fast as they could. But as Grim turned around, none of the ghosts seemed to want to give up. "We have to slow them down somehow!"
Epel bit his lips before an idea appeared in his head. "Ace, take the reign."
"Wh-What!" He didn't wait for an answer as he forcefully handed the reign to the boy behind him.
"Just keep riding okay? Don't worry about me."
"What are you-"
Before he could say anything else, Epel jumped off the horse, landing on the ground like a superhero. "Epel!"
"Just go! I'll stop them!"
Ace gritted his teeth, but he knew Epel was right. "Hyah!" he yelled and Leia ran faster.
Epel smiled and he looked forward toward the approaching ghost. Taking a deep breath, he summoned a magic circle underneath him as frost and snowflakes gathered around him. "No one gets past me!" He stomped his foot and jagged ices appeared from the ground. Even when the ghost tried to fly over, Epel kept attacking them with his ice.
"Damn you!" a guard shouted. "For someone so cute, you're just so persistent!"
"Who you're calling cute, HAH?!" Epel yelled, gathering his magic in both hands, he shot it toward the rest of the guards, trapping them in a wall of ice.
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong, and he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
Eliza/Ortho spun Jonah/Ruggie and dipped him once more. This time there was nothing to stop them. With a smile, Eliza leaned closer and Jonah closed his eyes...
The door was slammed open followed by a scream of "OBJECTION!"
