🐾TWST Vignette-Let Me In on This: Chapter 3

Jack stared at his dorm leader in disbelief. "Leona-senpai...Why are you here?" he asked. Leona smirked. "Didn't I tell all of you to not cause trouble for me? Well, with those pea-sized brains of yours, I guess it's easy to forget." he simply replied.

All of the Savanaclaw students froze, their faces turning pale. Their dorm leader had managed to catch them all in the act. "Th-This is... This is not what it looks like!" the cerise-haired aardwolf boy stammered, trying to look innocent.

"We were just teaching Jack some Magift tricks." the silver-haired bear boy added, trying to smile innocently at his dorm leader. Of course, their attempts to look innocent were very poor, as Leona could plainly see. "Dumb idiots..." he thought. "I see." Leona said as he crossed his arms.

"And I'm sure you guys were teaching him kindly. ...Jack's fur's all messed up." Everyone cringed, starting to sweat bullets. Somehow, Leona was able to tell that they were doing a lousy job at covering up Jack's injuries.

"M-Magift and injuries go hand in hand, right?" the silver-haired bear boy asked, still trying to put up an innocent act. His comrade nodded in agreement. "We were just teaching him an effective "strategy", like you mentioned before, Leona-san." he said, smiling anxiously.

Jack glared at them, incensed by their lies. "You dastards...!" he growled. Leona then rolled his eyes and held his right hand to his temple, getting annoyed and tired of their pathetic attempt to act innocent.

"A strategy, huh? I was able to overlook it earlier because it was during a Magift match, but..." Leona said before he turned to face the students with a partial stern glare, making them shudder. "Using magic in a private duel is against the rules."

He then gave them a knowing smirk. "If you were gonna beat up Jack, you should have left it at "playing rough" so I could have turned a blind eye. You got neither courage nor brains. That's why it's taking you guys so much effort to squash just one measly pup." he said as he eyed the cerise-haired aardwolf boy.

"Kuh..." the cerise-haired Savanaclaw student gulped nervously. Leona's smirk never dropped from his face as he continued, "Going with this kind of ganging up. You've got no sense when it comes to leading a pack."

A moment of silence washed over the group. "Then..." the Savanaclaw student started to say before he squared his shoulders and glared at Leona. "Then, are you saying you've got the sense to boss us around? I don't think so!" he shouted. His silver-haired companion stepped in, joining him.

"Y-Yeah! All you do is laze around during Magift practice, yet you still act all high and mighty." he declared, pointing a finger at Leona. "I've got doubts that you're fitting to be our Dorm Leader... to be our boss."

The cerise-haired aardwolf boy then smiled smugly. "There's more of us than there are of you. Even if you're the Dorm Leader, there's no way you can win against 30 of us, yeah?" he said as he gestured towards the other Savanaclaw students. "Let's see if you're all bark and no bite!" the silver-haired companion yelled.

All of the 30 Savanaclaw students then started to march towards Leona menacingly, wielding their magic pens. When he saw what his fellow dorm members were planning to do, Jack quickly got to his feet and ran over to Leona's side.

Despite his injuries, Jack bravely put himself between Leona and the Savanaclaw students, holding out a protective arm in front of his dorm leader. "H-Hey, wait a moment. This has nothing to do with the Dorm Leader..." Jack said defensively before Leona patted his shoulder, stopping him.

"Stand back, Jack." he said as he pushed Jack off to the side. Leona then took a few steps toward the gang of students and crossed his arms, giving them an amused smile. "Strength in numbers, huh. It doesn't matter how many of you there are, a small fry is still a small fry."

Everyone growled at Leona ferociously, keen on getting a piece of him. "Everyone, get him!" the cerise-haired Savanaclaw student yelled, pointing at Leona. Everyone shouted as they all charged towards Leona, ready to beat him to a pulp.

Despite the sight of 30-strong students charging towards him and wildly throwing powerful magic spells at him, Leona remained completely calm, unfazed by the onslaught. The smug grin on his face never faltered as he whipped out his own magic pen.

As the cerise-haired aardwolf boy threw a spell attack towards Leona, Leona just deftly caught the spell with his own magic and hurled it back towards the aardwolf boy. "Guh...!" he grunted as he was knocked in the chest by his own spell.

No matter how many magic spells the Savanaclaw students threw at him, Leona easily dodged and deflected their attacks. Jack watched in utter amazement as the Savanaclaw students fell to their knees, one by one. "Leona-senpai...He's repelling all the magic?!" he gasped in sheer astonishment.

"No way! There's no way there's this kind of power difference...!" the silver-haired bear boy added, trying to stand back on his feet. It was true, though. Leona had managed to best all 30 students without breaking a sweat in just one minute!

Even though he had bested the students, it felt too easy for Leona's liking. Those scoundrels were really eager to best him, to get a piece out of him. It's time they saw who the true leader of Savanaclaw is! "How boring ...Can I play a little too?" Leona asked as he flipped his magic pen.

Golden sparkles surrounded his pen as it transformed into a long wooden staff. The staff was slightly bent and tied with yellow ribbons, blue, red and yellow strings of beads and two white hornbill feathers with blue tips.

At the top of the staff was a carved lion's head with the magic golden gem held in its fangs. Leona then opened his left hand and bright golden sparkling grains of sand appeared on his palm. "―I am hunger. I am thirst." Leona started to chant. The golden magical sand started to swirl in his hand as he chanted his spell.

"W-Wait, is this incantation...?" the cerise-haired aardwolf boy asked nervously. All of a sudden, the ground beneath them started to shake. "Wh-What's going on? My foothold is shaking?!" he yelped with wide eyes.

"The terrain is shifting rapidly... What in the world is happening?!" the silver-haired bear boy cried out in fear as the ground rumbled beneath his feet. Before long, the ground began to break as large fissures cut through the earth. Jack couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Leona was using his Unique Magic to create the fissures in the ground! "The...The ground is cracking?!" Jack gasped, his eyes wide with disbelief. "This huge Magift stadium is... all turning to sand...?!"

Jack continued to watch as Leona raised his hands, summoning his magic as everything around him cracked and shook. "So this is Leona-senpai's magic... It's on a whole different level!!" he thought in silent astonishment. The golden grains of sand continued to swirl in Leona's hand as he recited his spell.

"I am what robs you of tomorrow...!" Leona chanted. "LEONA-SAN, STOOOOOOP!!" Ruggie suddenly screamed, his blue-grey eyes wide as he ran towards Leona, frantically motioning for him to stop what he was doing.

"...Ah?" Leona asked as he immediately stopped mid-chant and looked at Ruggie. "You're going way too far! Those second years are so terrified that they've completely passed out." Ruggie said, pointing over to where the 30 Savanaclaw students were.

Sure enough, all 30 of the Savanaclaw students were lying on the cracked earth, completely unconscious. They were so frightened by the sight of Leona's powerful magic that they've all collapsed to the ground in a dead faint.

Leona couldn't believe it. They were supposed to be the bold, tenacious members of Savanaclaw. When did they suddenly become fainthearted, spineless imbeciles? Leona sighed and he held a hand to his temple, annoyed by their reaction. "Haaah? It was just getting good, too.... What disappointing guys." he grumbled.

"I also wanted to see Leona-san's magic... But it felt like we'd get caught up in it too, so." Ruggie said as he tilted his head and shrugged. If he was being honest, Leona's performance terrified even him. "Tch." Leona scoffed as he folded his arms across his chest. What a bunch of sissies the lot of them were.

After a moment of silence, Jack then spoke up. "Why...?" he asked as he approached Leona. "Hm?" Leona asked, turning to face Jack. "Why did you save me?" Jack asked again. Leona smiled at his underclassman.

"Cause it's part of my job as Dorm Leader to take care of a little puppy so young he can't even open his eyes." he replied simply. Jack cast his eyes to the ground as he rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a bit awkward about being called a puppy by his dorm leader. "A p-puppy...?" he questioned.

"Aren't you a pup? A little brat that can't listen to his boss's orders, nor sit still, and just runs around blindly." Leona stated. "Urgh..." Jack groaned as he frowned, feeling the brunt of Leona's words.

Leona was right about him. He never sits still, not even for a moment. He was restless, impulsive, prone to jump head-first into danger without looking where he goes. Leona smiled, glad that Jack was taking his words into consideration. "I sure hope you're not foolish enough to not learn from your mistakes." he said.

Jack nodded as he looked towards his dorm leader. "...I'm sorry. And... Thanks for helping me!" he apologized before he bowed before Leona gratefully. "Oh? So, Jack-kun's actually pretty reasonable. I thought he'd be a bit more of a defiant kid." Ruggie said as he smiled.

"I get it now." Jack said earnestly as he placed his hands on his hips. "I'm just a powerless brat... And our Dorm Leader is someone amazing." Leona let out a laugh at Jack's praise. This kid sure knows how to be honest, even if he was hasty.

"Heh. I don't hate honest little brats like you. Make sure you work harder and become an exemplary dorm student." he said as he gave a firm pat on Jack's shoulder, making him jump a bit. "Yessir!" Jack said firmly. With a slight nod, Leona then turned and headed back towards the dorm.

Meanwhile, Ruggie went around the Magift field checking on the 30 Savanaclaw students who were just waking up from their fainting spell. As Jack watched, the crowd of Savanaclaw students quickly cleared a path for Leona as he strolled past them, all of them bowing with the utmost respect towards him.

"Leona-senpai... So your power is the real deal. I was right to look up to you!" Jack whispered with great admiration towards his dorm leader as he pumped his fist. "One day, I want to fight him at full force...!"

Later that night, Ruggie was in Leona's bedroom, picking up pieces of his dirty laundry. All the while, Leona was sitting on his bed, playing one-man chess again. "C'mon, Leona-san. Even though you said, "using magic in a private duel is against the rules", you yourself used magic." he said with a cheeky grin.

Leona didn't look up from his game as he held his hand towards his temple. "To prevent violence in our dorm, I was forced to use my magic. It's self-defense, isn't it?" he replied, sounding annoyed.

Honestly, having to deal with those rowdy students whose pride was injured by Jack really left him irritated. They obviously should know better than to attack that freshman who was defenseless. Ruggie just smiled as he picked up a yellow shirt and placed it into the laundry basket before he walked over to Leona's bedside.

"Yeah, yeah, sure. You dealt with the rebellious students all at once and gained the favor from a promising first year." he said as he shrugged, the sly knowing grin never vanishing from his face. "All of that is "self-defense" ...right?"

Leona gave out a scoff. "Obviously. Saving a poor first year who's being bullied by his seniors is natural, isn't it?" he said as if it was the most obvious thing before he smiled proudly. "...As the Dorm Leader who rules over Savanaclaw." Ruggie started to laugh, understanding the true meaning of Leona's words.

"Shishishi! Leona-san, you're really strong, devious, and shrewd..." he crowed. "Perfect as our Dorm Leader of Savanaclaw!" It was true. Leona is, without a doubt, the true ruler of Savanaclaw.

His actions spoke a lot more than words could, and today, they had proved it. And no one, living or dead, could ever say otherwise...
