🐾TWST Vignette-Let Me In on This: Chapter 2
The next day, in the Botanical Garden, Ruggie was wandering around the temperate zone of the garden until his eyes caught sight of the person he was searching for. "Ah, there you are, Leona-saaan! Ugh. I've been looking for you." he sighed as he approached the spot where Leona was sitting at.
Leona was sitting beside a tree, moving his chess pieces across a chessboard. He didn't look up at Ruggie, even though he heard him call his name. "Ughh... It's just you, Ruggie. I'm in the middle of something right now, so don't disturb me." he muttered indifferently as he moved the black knight down three black squares.
Ruggie looked at the chessboard curiously. Leona would often play chess by himself whenever he didn't feel like taking a nap. "Doing some chess problems again? Is it really fun to play by yourself?" Ruggie inquired.
"How I kill my own time is up to me. ...Or what, do you wanna play against me?" Leona asked. Ruggie smiled as he folded his hands behind his head. "No way. I'm not gonna pick a fight I can't win." he replied knowingly. He then remembered what he was here for.
"Anyway, Trein's gonna be crazy mad if you don't come to classes, y'know?" he said. Leona rolled his eyes and scowled. "Isn't it enough to take the tests? He really is a noisy old man." he said, rubbing his temple with one hand.
"Tell that to him yourself. I don't wanna be the one who has to tell him." Ruggie said as if it was the most obvious thing, "Like, the other day with Vargas..." Leona suddenly held his hand up towards Ruggie. "...Shh." he said, shushing Ruggie. Ruggie paused when he saw a scowl on Leona's face.
"Wh-What is it? You can't blow this off just 'cause you glare..." Ruggie was about to scold Leona when he cut him off. "Fine, whatever, just be quiet." Leona growled as his ears suddenly twitched. Ruggie went silent as Leona heard a voice coming from the path located at the far side of the garden.
"...Darn it all..." the voice growled. "Mm?" Ruggie hummed silently. That voice sounded familiar. As Leona and Ruggie both peeked from behind the bushes, they saw the two familiar Savanaclaw students walking along the brick garden path.
"I've been had by Jack again at today's Magift practice. That strength... Is he seriously a first year?" the first Savanaclaw student said with a bitter scowl in his face. "I wonder what's gonna happen for the regulars for the next inter-dorm competition." the second Savanaclaw student added.
"It'll look ridiculous if a first year takes the starting lineup." the cerise-haired aardwolf boy huffed. Little did they know that behind the bushes far behind them, Leona and Ruggie were listening to every word they were saying.
"It's those guys who picked that fight yesterday. Looks like they're yip-yapping about Jack again." Leona whispered. "Humph. It's those second years who're just jealous of Jack-kun's superior athletic abilities, huh." Ruggie said as he folded his hands behind his head.
"It's pretty shameful to be jealous, but... Jack-kun also doesn't carry himself well." Knowing Jack, he can be very adept at Magical Shift, but when it came to defending himself against people stronger in magic, he sadly lacked the capability.
Ruggie then smiled as he shrugged. "The world isn't divided into "right" and "wrong" after all... He needs to be smarter with how he deals with things like this." he said. Leona chuckled softly. "Haha, you mean like you? That'd be good!" he said before he smirked smugly.
"Then I wouldn't have to do anything." Ruggie said as he smiled impishly. "Shishishi~." he snickered softly. Both Leona and Ruggie then went silent as they continued to listen to the two Savanaclaw members chat away.
"Dorm Leader Leona said not to cause problems, but... I seriously can't let it slide. Let's corner Jack just once." the aardwolf boy said with a smug grin. "No matter how strong he is, he's still a first year. There's no way he'd know how to use that much magic anyway."
His companion nodded. "Yeah, there's still a bunch of guys who hold a grudge against him. If we all team up... Heeheehee." he chuckled, a wicked smirk spreading across his face. Oh, this is gonna be good! They'll teach Jack a lesson he will never forget!
Leona rolled his eyes and sighed with disdain. Those two morons... "Haaah...I'm so sick and tired of idiots who don't know how to listen." he groaned. "And on top of that, why're they talking about their plans in the open like this? So careless."
Ruggie just smiled and shrugged. "I mean, it could just be more that our ears hear too well." he said, leaning against the tree. "...So, what're we gonna do? Leaving them alone and letting Jack-kun learn just how scary our dorm can really be ain't such a bad idea."
The gears in Leona's brain started turning as he started to think. "Let's see..." Leona said as he crossed his arms and started to ponder. How exactly is he going to pull this off?
A while later, at the Savanaclaw Dorm, Jack made his way up the stairs towards the Magift Stadium. As soon as he reached the field, he looked around, searching for someone. Then suddenly, 30 other Savanaclaw dorm members appeared and surrounded him.
Jack raised his eyebrows, wondering what was going on. "Heeey, Jack-kun. Your senpai asked you nicely. You better do what we say for your own good." the cerise-haired aardwolf boy said as he smirked. "Never participate in Savanaclaw's Magift ever again. ...If you get it, hurry and answer me!"
"You don't wanna get hospitalized so soon as you entered this school, right? Heeheehee." the silver-haired bear boy snickered. Jack glared at his seniors angrily, furious that he had been tricked. "This was no 'asking nicely'." he snarled.
"I only came because you said you "wanted to talk one-on-one". Coming at me as a pack like this, you're all cowards!" The Savanaclaw dorm members all laughed at him. "Stuuupid. It's your own fault for letting your guard down. Strategy is also important in a fight." the aardwolf boy jeered.
"There's no way you'd be able to do anything when you gotta face 30 or so of us." the bear boy said before he made his move. "Here, take this!" he shouted as he lunged towards Jack and decked a solid punch to his ribs. Bam!
Jack winced from the blow, but he quickly stood his ground as he glared at his seniors. "Don't look down on me, hargh!" he howled as he retaliated and fought back. Pow! He managed to deliver a powerful punch to the aardwolf boy's chin, making him stagger backwards.
But the aardwolf boy just simply smiled as he stood back up, hardly fazed by Jack's punch. "Haha, you've definitely got brute strength." he cackled before he pulled his magic pen out from his jean pocket. "But, how's your magic? Hah!!"
He then waved his magic pen at Jack, unleashing a wave of magic at him. "Kuh, magic?!" Jack gasped in disbelief. "You can't use magic during a fight, that's unfair... Augh!" He was cut off as the spell slammed into his chest, knocking the wind out of his lungs and making him stagger backwards.
The other Savanaclaw students then started to take out their magic pens from their pockets and started casting attacking spells towards Jack, each one more painful than the last. Jack tried his best to deflect their attacks and fight back, but he was quickly losing strength as he started to stumble.
"And no matter how many I take down, they keep coming...!" Jack barely had time to block the spell as it slammed into his shoulder. Kerpow! "Graah!" he cried out in pain as he fell to his knees, weakened by the blow.
Seeing that Jack was on his knees, exhausted from their magic attacks, the silver-haired bear boy marched up to him. "Ora, this is the end!" the bear boy yelled as he held his magic pen high above his head, ready to deliver the final blow. "Urgh...!" Jack grunted as he closed his eyes, bracing himself for the painful impact.
Then suddenly, a rich, deep familiar voice rang through the air behind them. "Hey. Who closes their eyes in the middle of a fight?" the voice said, making everyone pause. They all turned and saw someone walking towards them.
When they saw who the person was, everyone immediately froze, their faces turning pale. "Y-You are...!" the cerise-haired aardwolf boy exclaimed, his eyes wide like saucers. Jack was also wide-eyed when he saw who was approaching them. "Leona...senpai...!" he gasped in shock.
Sure enough, Leona wore his usual superior grin on his lips as he sauntered towards the group of students. "Looks like you boys are having fun. Let me in on this." he said as he took out his magic pen. Looks like this is going to be lots of fun, indeed.
