Prologue 19: A Miracle Reconsideration!

"A monster causing a riot at the entrance ceremony... The chandelier in the cafeteria getting broken... Honestly, all these troubles happening one after the next this year will be the death of me." Crowley muttered to himself as he walked into the Mirror Chamber. He was still quite incensed about the chandelier accident.

Suddenly, the Dark Mirror started to glow, and before he knew it, the six teens and Grim emerged from the Mirror and entered the Mirror Chamber. They were all quite surprised when they saw Crowley standing in front of them.

Without wasting any time, the group presented him with the magic crystal, telling him that they went into the Dwarfs' Mine and got exactly what he wanted. They had thought that he would accept it and let them go about their day...but what happened next came unexpected to them.

"Eh?! You really went to Dwarfs' Mine to find a magic crystal?" Crowley asked them, his eyes wide with shock. He was genuinely surprised that they did. It was as if he wasn't expecting them to actually go and get a crystal for him.

"Eeeh?!" the whole group went. They were undeniably confused. What did he mean did they really go? He clearly said they would all be expelled if they didn't. Crowley blinked in confusion before he paused and rethought the situation at hand. "I really didn't think... My word, I never actually thought you'd go..."

"You'd not only go but then come back with a crystal in hand. I quietly completed the paperwork for your expulsion." he told them. Just from hearing that, and remembering what they all had to go through, the girls thought for sure they all felt like fainting.

"Nnga! The nerve of this guy! While we were off fighting some crazy beast!" Grim shouted in annoyance. Crowley blinked in confusion when the little cat gremlin mentioned something about a crazy beast.

"Beast?" he asked curiously as he looked at the group. "There was a monster there! It was super gross and crazy strong. It was awful!" Ace exclaimed.

Ooh... now this was truly odd. Crowley never knew there would be any monsters living around that area. Although, that would explain why the six teens and Grim looked like they're ready to collapse right where they were standing. They were utterly exhausted.

Eventually, Crowley asked for the crystal. Once Alice handed it to him, Crowley told them to come to his office to discuss things further. "Could you explain in more detail?" he asked as they headed out of the Mirror Chamber.

Once they were in his office, the group told their headmaster everything that had happened. From the moment they arrived at the mine to the ghost chase, to encountering that Faceless Monster and finally, to when they were able to defeat it.

All the while, Crowley's eyes were wide and he was entirely speechless by their story. Then he snapped out of his shock and crossed his arms pensively. "Hoh hoohh." Crowley hummed in his seat. "A mysterious monster living in the coal mine. The seven of you worked together to defeat it and bring back a magic crystal?"

"Yes." Aria said, nodding. "Well, we didn't really work together..." Ace mumbled to himself, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. He glanced down and quickly looked away with a faint blush when he saw Alice smiling up at him.

"It was more like our goals were aligned..." Deuce added. Crowley leaned back in his seat and just stared at them in pure disbelief. Is what they were saying true? They had actually worked together? And these four young ladies had convinced them?!

He just couldn't believe this. This all sounded impossible! But by looking at them, he saw nothing but the truth. Crowley's body then trembled as he raised his hands to his face. "Ooh...Ooooh...OOOOOOOOHHH!!!! OOOOOOHHH!!!" he suddenly sobbed.

The group almost jumped back in disbelief when Crowley suddenly began to sob uncontrollably. He fell over his desk as he kept on crying, bawling like a baby. As the group all gawked at Crowley, they thought they heard him say something, but all that came out from his mouth were just choking sobs.

"U-U-Um, are you alright, sir? What's the matter? Why are you crying?" Alice gently asked. "What's wrong?" Aria asked with concern. "What's with this guy? Why is an adult bursting into tears?!" Grim questioned, getting uncomfortable for having to see the Headmaster like this.

Crowley then took in a few quick-paced breaths before he sat back up in his chair and looked at them with pure joy in his glowing golden eyes. "In all these years that I've been Headmaster... For the day to come that students from Night Raven College to go hand-in-hand to face and defeat their enemy!" he sobbed blissfully.

The six students and Grim all gaped at Crowley, not believing what they just heard from him. "What?! I did not hold this guy's hand!" Deuce shouted. "I would never do that either, gross! Wait, how old are you, Headmaster?!" Ace questioned.

"Ace-kun, please. Don't be so rude." Alice chided. "I am overwhelmed with emotion." Crowley declared as he wiped away his tears. He then suddenly bolted up from his seat and gave the girls a wide smile. "This incident confirms it. You four young ladies. Without a doubt, you girls have talent as beast tamers!" he exclaimed.

The four girls all blinked in confusion as they stared at Crowley, trying to process his words. "Huh?! What talent now?!" Kira asked in bewilderment. "Uh, e-excuse me, sir...b-but did you say, B-Beast Tamers?" Alice asked.

The mask-wearing headmaster gave the girls a firm nod. "Students of Night Raven College are budding mages called here by the Dark Mirror." he explained. "But due to their excellence, many of them turn out to be prideful, egotistical, and self-centered individualists who never give a thought about cooperating with others."

The girls all nodded in understanding. "I see..." Jazmin mused. "You're really not saying anything good." Grim muttered to himself. Ace and Deuce then blinked as they started to process the headmaster's words. Wait...

What...? Did they just hear him right?! They both suddenly froze, not believing what Crowley just said about them. "Di-Did he just say "ladies"?!" Deuce asked in disbelief. "Why did he call them "girls"?" Ace asked. His eyes then grew wide as he and Deuce both stared at the four girls with shocked expressions. "Don't tell me...!"

"Oops!" Headmaster Crowley said, covering his mouth in shock. "Oh, dear! A slip of my tongue!" Ace and Deuce then turned to face the headmaster. "Headmaster, it-it's not true, is it?" Ace asked. "Those boys are not actually girls, are they?"

"Well... Umm..." Crowley muttered, starting to sweat bullets. How should he explain this? The four girls all looked at each other. Now that their secret was out, there was no point in trying to hide it. "Boys..." Kira said, getting the boys' attention. Ace and Deuce turned to face the girls.

"It's true. What the Headmaster said is true." Jazmin said. "We're not really boys. We're girls." Alice added. Ace and Deuce gaped at them with wide eyes. "What?!" they all exclaimed. The four girls all nodded and removed their bracelets. Their masculine bodies morphed back into their original feminine forms.

Ace and Deuce were both completely aghast as they stared wide-eyed at the girls. Their jaws dropped to the floor when they realized the fact that they had just conversed with four girls wearing the Night Raven College uniforms.

Girls?! Here in Night Raven, an all-boys school?! This was just unbelievable! "Holy crap...!" Ace exclaimed. Gosh, he teased those girls, mocked them, made fun of them. He felt terrible, felt like an absolute jerk. Even Deuce could barely process the whole revelation. He felt his knees go completely weak when he realized that he had stood in the presence of four girls this whole time.

"So, all this time... you're actually girls?!" Ace asked, his tongue feeling heavy like a lump of clay. "Th-Th-This is... an all-boys school, right?! Ho-How come four g-g-girls got a-accepted?!" Deuce choked on his words. Both boys then turned towards the headmaster. "Di-Did the carriage make a mistake by any chance?" Deuce asked.

"Headmaster, there's gotta be some kind of mistake! Girls can't attend an all-boys school!" Ace protested. "Not necessarily, Mr. Trappola. While this is indeed an all-male school, there are no rules stating that girls should not be allowed to attend." Crowley stated.

Ace and Deuce then turned to Grim. "Oi, Grim, you knew they were all girls the whole time?!" Ace asked. Grim nodded. "Well, yeah. Even I was surprised that there were four girls in an all-boys school, y'know." he replied. Crowley then cleared his throat as he turned his attention towards the girls.

"You four cannot use magic. But, maybe, precisely because you four cannot use magic means that you could give instructions to wizards and get them to cooperate." he said with a bright smile. "Surely, four mediocre, run-of-the-mill humans like you are exactly what this school needs right now!"

"Huh?!" the whole group asked. "What?" Jazmin asked. "We...We are?" Alice asked. Wait a minute. Was he trying to say that they were going to be some kind of teachers to the students here? Not only that, but they're now Beast Tamers?

"He's not saying anything nice, is he?!" Ace asked. First, Crowley hid the fact that four girls were walking around Night Raven disguised as boys, and now he's telling them that they can't use magic at all? Seriously, how mean can he be?!

Crowley ignored him. "Ladies. I have no doubt that your existence is essential to the future of this academy. So says my intuition as an educator." he said. The four girls' eyes slightly widened at that. Their existence...was essential here? Does that mean...they were needed here?

Is that the reason they were brought here in the first place?

Crowley then turned to Ace and Deuce. "Along with rescinding Mr. Trappola and Mr. Spade's expulsion, I shall give you four the qualifications to attend Night Raven College as students!" he declared with a smile.

"Eeeh?!" the whole group yelled in surprise. "What?! Y-Yo-You're making us students here?!" Aria asked in disbelief. "Even though we're girls and we can't use magic?" Kira asked. Crowley nodded. "Yes. For I am exceedingly gracious." he said. "Also, I'll have some facilities set up to accommodate you girls as new students."

"But, there is one condition. You four cannot use magic. Becoming mages is out of the question. You all probably will not be able to complete all your lessons." Crowley then paused as he turned to face the fire-breathing cat monster. "This is where Grim comes in." Grim turned to face the Headmaster. "Hm?" he hummed.

"You have proven to me that you possess enough talent to become a mage. Therefore, I shall allow the five of you to enroll together, as one student." he concluded. "Ffgna?!" Grim exclaimed in disbelief.

The four girls all smiled brightly as they turned to face Grim, feeling happy for him. Grim was utterly speechless as he was in shock at what he was hearing. He had wanted to become a student here for so long and now, his wish was finally coming true.

"I... I can go to this academy too...? Not as a handyman, but as a student?" Grim asked, tearing up a little. Crowley nodded. "Yes. Provided that!" he quickly said. He had meant it when he said he would allow Grim in as a student, but he still needed to provide some guidelines for this little cat monster.

"You don't ever let an incident like yesterday occur again! Do we have an agreement?" he questioned. Grim sniffed a bit as he tried to hold back his tears as his body quaked with sheer joy. "Ffgnaa... Fffnnaa... W-We can." he squeaked.

"That's great!" Kira cheered. Alice turned to Crowley. "We promise, Headmaster. We'll do our very best!" she said as she and the other girls gave him a respectful bow. The girls weren't very sure about being students or Beast Tamers here, but...they were happy for their friends.

They were able to save Ace and Deuce from expulsion and Grim was able to get his chance to attend such a prestigious school as a student as promised."Ffggnnnnnaa!! I did it!!" Grim cheered ecstatically, shooting his paws up in the air.

"Well then, I shall give the symbol of your status as a student of Night Raven College, a magic crystal, to Grim." Crowley said. With a wave of his clawed hand, he held up a lavender-colored magic crystal. The magic crystal then floated towards Grim and attached itself onto Grim's striped ribbon.

The lavender-colored gemstone now rested against his furry white chest. "Whoa! A magic crystal?!" Grim asked, surprised at the new accessory on his collar. "It is the norm for students to have their magic crystals in the form of a "magical pen" but, you wouldn't be able to grip it in your paws, right?" Crowley said.

"It's a special custom. Aaah... I pay attention to even the smallest details! Aren't I too gracious?" Kira rolled her eyes at that. Somehow, she felt like he's been throwing that phrase around whenever he pleased.

"I did it!! I'm so cool! I got my own special magic crystal collar~~♫" Grim cheered in a sing-song tone as he trotted around the room, doing a little happy dance and proudly showing off his magic collar. Alice, Aria and Jazmin giggled at his silly little antic.

Kira just rolled her eyes and shook her head while Ace and Deuce both grimaced in annoyance as they watched him dance around and brag about himself. "He isn't listening at all..." Crowley said, shaking his head. He then turned towards the girls.

"Listen, girls. As you can see, Grim is not accustomed to human society. It's up to you girls to take the reins and monitor him to prevent from causing any more trouble!" he said sternly. "Y-Yes, sir. We'll do our very best." Alice said, giving him another bow. The other girls followed suit.

When Alice stood up straight again, she was nearly knocked down when Ace suddenly patted her, rather strongly, on the back, surprising her. "So, which one of you girls is the prefect here?" Ace asked.

The girls all looked at each other. Which one of them was the prefect? "I think...I think all four of us are the prefects." Jazmin said. Ace looked at her for a moment, then he let out a laugh. "Aha! Look at you. School's just started, but you girls are already prefects?" Ace said smilingly.

Alice and Aria each let out a shy giggle, their faces turning red a bit. "I see. There's only the five of you in your dorm... So if you've been entrusted with monitoring Grim, that makes you prefects." Deuce mused as he smiled and raised his hand to pat Alice on the head to congratulate her. Deuce blushed red when she shyly smiled back at him.

"Pfft... Hahahaha! Isn't that unheard of? For there to be four prefects who are unable to use magic." Ace laughed as he hooked his arm around Alice's neck, careful not to choke her as he poked at her cheek. "Nice. It's cool. Four supervisor students who are unable to use magic!"

Kira crossed her arms, this time in mock annoyance. "Har-har-har! Real funny." she said with an amused grin. "I'm sure we'll do our best, although I don't know if I'm that confident." Alice said as she held onto Ace's arm. The cherry red-eyed boy grinned happily at her. "Ahaha. Good luck, prefects!"

"I see, a prefect." Crowley muttered. A thought then ran through his mind as he looked at the young girls. His curiosity and interest towards them were growing with each passing second. They were certainly different from any other person he had ever met, and that's excluding the fact that they're from an entirely different world.

Then an idea popped into his mind. "I do have a work request, and having a title makes it very conve... I mean, wonderful!" he quickly corrected himself as he stood up from his seat and pulled one of his desk's drawers open.

After rummaging through some items, he finally picked the object he was searching for. With the item in hand, he then walked over towards the girls and placed the object in Alice's hand. It was a retro-style, old-fashioned camera. He also presented the girls four schoolbags as well as a bag to hold the camera in.

"Miss Liddell, Miss Ironclaw, Miss Oceanspray and Miss Raija. I entrust you with this. ...This is nicknamed the "ghost camera"." Crowley said. The girls all looked at him with curious gazes. "Ghost...?" Aria asked as she took the camera and the bags, lifting the camera up and examining it curiously.

It looked normal enough. So why...oh, does it take photos of ghosts or something like that? Ace eyed the camera and his face brightened as he seemed to recognize it. "Ah, I think my grandma told me about that. It's a super old magic tool, right?" he asked.

"It is not "super old"... Ahem." Crowley refuted before he paused and cleared his throat. "It's true this may have been invented during your great grandmother's, or great-great grandmother's time. There is a very special spell cast on it. It not only captures the subjects' form, but also a part of their souls." he explained.
