Night 2
Rachel's POV:
"Rachelllllll," a voice hissed while something poked my closed eye lids. Who the heck wanted to wake me up?
"Oww..." I swatted the hand away and rolled over on my side.
"Rachel!" The voice urged, shaking my shoulder. This person is really trying. I flipped onto my back and groggily opened my eyes. It was the other blue fae, Grace. I sat up and yawned.
"Why are you up? Go back to beddddd."
"I can't, and I won't let you sleep until you hear my plan," her eyes were lit with some sorta crazy. This doesn't seem good.
"So ya know how you can do the whole dream manipulation thing? Well I was thinking..."
"Nooo," I already didn't like this plan.
"Hey! Hear me out. So we'll sneak into the Glader's bunker, and you just give Gaia some of her memories back!" Grace looked so hopeful, and I just couldn't say no to an adventure.
"Ughh, fine..." I stretched as Grace jumped around.
"Oh thank you!" She grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. I shushed her before she could make any more noise, and we snuck out of the camp.
"Do you have a plan?" I whispered to Grace. We were hiding in the bushes at the edge of the forest, looking around for anyone who was awake.
"Yeah, I have a plan."
"Is it a good one?" There was silence.
"I have a plan." Grace replied, and I started to regret waking up. All was dark in the Glade, except for a few torches that provided light.
"Okay, we'll turn into snakes and just slither our way to the bunks."
"Grace, if someone sees a snake in their house, they're going to kill it!"
"Well it doesn't sound like you have a better idea." She huffed. I shook my head, and shifted into a sparkling lapis snake.
"Do you even know where this bunker is?" I flickered.
"It's right over that way," she pointed to the other side of the tall stone walls. Narrowing my beady eyes, I could see a small wooden building. I pushed into the long grass, slithering to the Glader's bunks to terrorize some humans.
"Now what?" I hissed at Grace, who was also a snake, but in a lighter shade of blue. She looked like a stream of water that parted the grass. We hid in the shadowy doorway of the bunker, which had a wooly blanket as the door.
"Now we find Gaia and set things right."
Grace shifted back into fae. I did as well, and we peeked inside the bunker. Heat hit our faces as we stepped into the muggy, candle lit room. There were beds crammed along the walls, filled with scrawny girls who cowered under thin sheets. I searched for Theo, but it was difficult with everyone under blankets. At the back wall, there was a ladder. Grace snuck over creaky floorboards and put one foot on the first step.
"Let's check upstairs! I don't see her down here..." she whispered over her shoulder. I followed, still glancing at beds for Theo. Once I got over to Grace, she started to climb. I held the ladder, waiting for her to reach the top, then slowly made my way up. The second floor was spilt in half, both sides full of sleeping girls. I scanned the room, searching for Gaia. Grace then grabbed my arm, digging her nails into me, and pointed.
"She's there!" Her voice got jittery. We crept next to Gaia's bed, which was only a couple inches away from two other beds, and I sat down on a thick blanket.
"What do you want to show her?" I whispered to Grace. She was biting her lip.
"Uh, are you able to transfer memories?"
"I could try..."
"Great! Give her the ones of us doing cute stuff." The smile one Grace's face was just to pure. I reached out and put two fingers on Grace's forehead, and my other hand I laid on Gaia's head. Closing my eyes, I dug into Grace's memory.
I was in a white room, sitting on a stiff gray bed. The smell of plastic hung in the air. Looking around, the room was pretty plain. A knock on the door broke the silence, making me jump out of my skin. I pushed off the bed and slid to the door. Cracking it, I peeked out. Gaia was standing there. She had a big smile on her face and gave me a quick wave. She looked much younger, short blonde hair covering her whole head.
"Hey Grace, you gonna let me in?" She whispered. Grace? I looked down, and saw I was wearing Grace's flowing dress. Ah right, I was in her memories. I opened the door wide enough for Gaia to slip through.
"Uh, hey..." I stammered. I had no idea how this scene was supposed to play out, and Gaia was much different from how she was in the Maze. She sat down on the bed.
"I wanted to tell you something, and it can't wait any longer," her face blushed a tint of pink, "I love you." What was Grace supposed to say to that? I laughed, seeing Gaia's eyes go wide and doubtful. Oops.
"I love you too, Gaia." A small smile drifted across my face. Gaia was overjoyed, almost childish. She jumped up and gave me a hug, pulling away to look at me for a spilt second. Then, it happened. She kissed me. And everything slowed down, darkening as I could feel myself being pulled back to my senses.
Grace stumbled away.
"What happened?" She held a hand to her head.
"Not completely sure, but I sure saw some things." I shot a suspicious look at her, rising from my spot on Gaia's bed. She was back to her normal self, half buzzed head and sharp facial features. But she had a smile on her face. And that sent a shiver up my spine. Grace swayed, and I stumbled to her.
"Go back to camp, and don't tell anyone what happened tonight." I whispered.
"What about you? Aren't you coming?" Amusement flickered in her bright blue eyes.
"Yeah, I just have something to do first." Grace shrugged, and tip-toed to the ladder. Once her head disappeared under the floorboards, I continued my search for Theo.
After examining face after face in the dim light, I found her. She was pushed up against the wall wrapped in blankets. I slid next to her so I was close to the floor. I reached across the bed with my arm, placing two fingers on her forehead and entered her dreams.
It was really weird in here. Dark, cold, and a smell of fresh dirt. There were two tall, mossy stone walls on either side of me. I wandered, trying to get a feel of where this place was. Then I spotted Theo, frozen in fear and shaking. In front of her was a nasty creature with mechanical limbs sticking out of its slimy body.
"Theo!" I hissed at her. She spun, her eyes fixed on me.
"Rachel?" Theo whispered. She looked very confused, but relieved she wasn't alone.
"Come over here! You'll be safe." I waved my hand. Theo just shook her head.
"I can't," her voice a little panicky. Is this one of those dreams where you can't move and there's something after you? Cuz I hate those ones. Yet people don't realize that you can control what happens in dreams.
"Theo, just think the monster away!" I wish I could help, but this wasn't my dream. She spun back to me, completely confused.
"What? How the HECK is that supposed to work!"
"It's a dreeeeeaaaaaaam, just make it disappear!"
"You're honestly crazy,"
"Just try!" It seemed impossible trying to convince her. But she turned to the monster, closed her eyes, and soon enough it disappeared. I rushed to her a squeezed her, Theo squirming out of my arms.
"If this is a dream, then how are you here?" She questioned.
"I needed to talk to you before you went into the maze. I-" before I could say more, static filled my sight, taking over me. I was no longer in Theo's dreams. Neither was I back in my body. Black and white lights blinded me, and the taste of blood filled my mouth. A screen then appeared before me, and I was closed in on all sides by a glass box. The lights I was seeing burned white. I squinted my eyes. A woman walked into the screen, lips speaking breathless words. Then a voice echoed through the room.
"Welcome, Rachel. We have finally gained access to your mind after your little trip into Theodora's. All thoughts, actions, feelings, and vitals will be monitored by us. We are so glad to have you bring us new tests and obstacles, and we are excited to see how you will preform. Remember, WICKED is good." The lights shut off, as well as the screen. I was still stuck in the box, and one thing I knew for certain. We were all screwed.
