Day 5
Rachel's POV:
The sun was coming up, and we were still in the city, pushing through massive groups of people who crowded around to watch the fire we started burn. Bayron was very quiet, but who could blame her? We were all tired of watching so many people get hurt every second.
"Where exactly are you taking us Bayron? Because the places we follow you to lead to us in danger." Skylar asked. Our guide was silent for awhile.
"Don't worry about it, it's just a couple miles from the city." We continued to push our way down the street, until something stopped us. I say something when really it was someone.
"Genesis?" Bayron stood in shock. He had a mob of torn up people behind him, rags and skin chard from the building fire. Their tight pale faces showing off their bones, wrapped in thick black veins. Genesis looked the worst. He still looked human, yet insanity flared in his eyes.
"Hello child..." he smiled. Bayron opened her arms in a hug, but Genesis had other plans. He lunged at Bayron. Theo quickly pulled her back, crashing into the rest of us. Ashlyn and Anna had their weapons at the ready, swinging and shooting into the mob of Cranks. Emily ran to a crumbling building nearby and heaved up a giant rock. She ran forward, yelling, and tackled Genesis.
"BEWARE THE SCARY ROCK MONSTER!" She yelled before smashing his face with the boulder. Cranks swarmed in on her.
"Come on!" Ashlyn called and ran past the distracted creatures. We followed, but it took Theo a lot to pull Bayron away from what used to be Genesis. Soon the two joined us, and jealously burned at my cheeks. I was going to have to try harder if I wanted Theo to like me over Bayron. Running down the streets and dipping down alleyways by Bayron's directions, we made it to the other side of the city. Panting at the end of the street, we looked out at the Scorch.
"Would you like to lead the way Bayron?" Ashlyn turned to the distraught guide. Bayron silently made her way to the front.
"We'll be there by sun down." She said and limped off into the sand. Theo glanced back at me and followed Bayron.
"She better bring us somewhere safe." I sighed and trailed behind my friends, trudging through the sand. And we were off to face our doom.
