Chapter 8 - Hi

By mid-morning, plans are made for who travels with whom back to the boys' hometown. James knowingly takes Aaron and Brooklyn since Alex is riding with him. James doesn't want any unnecessary tension between Josh and Alex. Emily still has the sensation that something is off ever since she met Alex.

Gwen begins to regain the rest of her senses gradually. She recuperates from the concussion sustained from the storm. She's excited to get going on the first family vacation as a distraction from everything she's lost.

In the back seat, Emily can't shake this sensation that something isn't right. She knows there's always been more than her dad hasn't told her. In the back of her mind, there's a voice screaming to wanna put something to rest. She does her best to ignore it and gives the impression she's thrilled to be around her dad.

While they lead the drive back home along Ohio State Route 35, there are already two other family members waiting to surprise them. Audrey and Sara have taken it upon themselves to make an unexpected trip early moving home.

"Hey Audrey, let's step outside to talk for a minute," Momma tells her with a single wave towards the kitchen.

"Right behind ya, mom."

The two of them sit on the old wooden bench-style seats at the picnic table on the deck. Momma Cline already has a pitcher of sun tea with a couple of plastic cups.

"I don't want you to feel like you are running me out of this house. I'm happy to have you home. Your uncle's house needs some major T.L.C. since he passed last year. That house has been in the family since your great-great-grandfather built it. Just let the contractors finish up the work here, and it's yours clean and clear." She reminds Audrey with a smile and her hand over her daughters for comfort.

"It just feels weird, mom. You know, I always thought I was meant for something greater than just becoming a teacher for future nurses, you know? I wanted to be on a medical team that made a discovery that cured a disease or made a significant medical breakthrough." Audrey says, sounding a bit deflated in her voice.

"Oh, my sweet girl, you did so much right! You're an amazing mother, and you worked yourself to the bone to barely keep your head above water with that lazy piece of trash you married. He showed us all a side of himself we never expected. Audrey, look at you still standing strong and able to find a way through the black of night."

All Audrey can do is smile. A tiny sliver within herself feels honored by her mother's remarks.

They sit and chit-chat for nearly an hour. It's not until they hear brakes slightly squeaking in the driveway that they get up. By the time they make their way into the living room, James, Brooklyn, and Aaron walk through the door.

"Hi, mom," James says, extending his arms to hug his mother.

She's overcome with joy seeing her only biological son. Once her arms are locked around his shoulders and refuses to let go. She can't believe how much he's changed from the punk skater teenager to the greased back hair to accompany his slender stature with a slight potbelly.

"How I've missed y'all since you left home!" She whispers in his ear with tears rolling down her cheeks.

Unbeknownst to her, there's someone else who snuck into the house. Off by the door standing behind Gwen and Emily, Josh stands there in silence, waiting patiently for Momma Cline to open her eyes.

After James can finally pry her away from the motherly death hug, Josh makes his presence known.

"How about one for me?" He asks right before she wipes her eyes.

A gasp and hands over her mouth say it all. She stands there in shock. The sight of the young man she took into her home, finally making his return, is overwhelming. Josh smiles, making his way by the kids and James. He stops in front of Momma Cline. She waits to accept that he's there in front of her.

"You look so good!" She says through her hands, fighting the urge to slap and hug her adoptive son.

"Hi, momma..." Josh makes the first move to hug her. She buries her head into his chest, saying nothing.

The others stand there and watch as they've never seen this side of Momma C. The only two left from the impromptu reunion are Connor and Justin. It's a reunion that will be complete shortly.

"I do have news to share. All of you better get packed for the beach! This morning I called down to have my house ready. It'll be up and running and fully stocked within the next five days!" Josh announces, turning to make sure everyone can hear the announcement.

Cheers and whistles come from every direction. Even though that's the biggest surprise, James has something to share with Josh in private.

"Hey Cuz, we need to talk for a moment in private. It's about what we discussed back in Chicago."

Without hesitation, they disappear into the basement, where James drops down some major news.

"Listen, I got ahold of my people back at INSIDE, and well, they're going to hook us up. It'll take a couple of days to get what I need to be planted into the cars and a surveillance vehicle ready. Now, I say we get a trailer and hook it up so that way, in case we need to get somewhere quick, we can jump in your ride and go."

Josh is concerned when he's told about the cars being bugged and wired for tracking.

"Bub, they'll sweep those cars up and down, and I'm not about to get these guys killed."

James already has the answer for that pre-established concern.

"No worries, dawg, I got this and remember where I work. It's all wired directly into the radio of each ride. When it's off, the tracker doesn't work, so it's undetectable. Virtually, after the guys find their ways in, send us back audio through a one-way mic from the car speakers, and we can track them through GPS satellites. They're covered, and we can be within a twenty-five-mile radius. Now chillax, and let's have some fun before we hit the streets."

The spontaneous meeting is broken up when another car comes barreling into the driveway. The echo of a familiar engine pierces through the windows that send Josh back in time.

Together they run upstairs, where Josh is left nearly speechless.

"Wait... There's no way that can be... Well, I'll be a son of a bitch!" Josh mutters to himself.

He stands there to see his youngest son, Connor, pulling himself from the car.

If one of the kids resembles their parents as a perfect copy, it would be Connor. He's about the same height and build as his father, from matching dark eyes and a mouth that frequently gets him into calamity with authority figures.

Josh can't stand there any longer. He walks outside with Aaron not far behind in awe at that car his father used to drive.

"It's like this car hasn't aged at all!" Josh proclaims, strutting around the car to discover another piece of ancient history still attached to the rear hatch glass. "Oh damn, our old Shadow Wolves car club sticker. Now that brings back some crazy memories."

James and Alex overhear the comment.

"What? There's no way that sticker survived all these years." Alex mentions, going over to see it for himself.

"Wow! Talk about traveling back through time. We had some crazy events unfold back when we had those rides; remember the night with Aiden and them up in K.C.?" James brings up, which naturally has Gwen curious.

"Hold on, what memory would this be?" She yells out.

It's all written on Josh's face when his expression gives it away.

"Oh, you mean the night when 'she' was gone and then right before you met me and all that went down the way it did. I gotcha, I know that 'oh shit I'm busted' glow in your eyes any time." She says, giving Josh a semi-dirty look.

A cheesy grin and shoulder shrug are all Josh give as his response. Gwen rolls her eyes, then returns to the house. She returns a minute later with her purse with Audrey in tow.

"I'm not jealous or angry, but I'm going car shopping. Come on, Emily and Brooky, you're both going with us." Gwen calls out with some attitude to her voice.

The boys wave them off, and then once the girls are all out of sight, they go back, giving the old Probe GT a once over from the leather interior to the performance parts under the hood. They spend the rest of the day out in the backyard, recollecting while reconnecting through the good old days.

Later that night after everyone finds a place to crash. The boys are down in the basement while the girls hold a slumber party in James' old bedroom. It allows Josh and Gwen to spend the night back in his old bedroom. That night Josh is finding it challenging to rest.

When it becomes apparent that Gwen is out cold, he slips out of bed to head for the kitchen. Without flipping on a single light through the house, he makes it to his destination. He's not alone when he sees Momma Cline nursing a beer.

"Hey kid, still have issues sleeping?" She starts the conversation.

"Yes, ma'am." He replies with his nose in the fridge, taking a can of caffeine-free soda.

"Feels weird, momma, being here and see my car with Connor driving it. I thought you sold it years ago."

He takes a seat across the table from Ms. Cline.

"I couldn't part with it. After you left for the service, that was all we had left of you. I had it parked up at Tim's. He kept up the maintenance for me until he couldn't any longer. When Connor got here, he fell in love with it much like you did, and I couldn't tell that kid he couldn't have it. Connor reminds me of you in so many ways. However, I know you're not here to visit. Between just you and me, what's the plan?"

With a huff, Josh lets his plans be known.

"Sooner or later, you're all going to become targets. That's why the vacation house is being prepped. It's unknown, and it has more than enough space for everyone. The safe houses are not an option with a rat within the agency, and I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to any of you." Josh explains with a solemn thousand-yard stare in his eyes.

"That's my boy, always trying to be three steps ahead. I'll keep everyone there, and thank you for not sugaring coating why you're having us stay there. Is it truly going to come to something that extreme?"

Josh breaks out a secret that's been kept from the public.

"These people don't play gently, momma. When someone has gotten too close, they strap them down to a chair and purposely overdose them. They inject so much of this shit their iris turns red from the blood collecting up along with the blood like tears streaming down their cheeks."

Her jaw drops at the revelation of the torture measures. Momma Cline is speechless as she sits there breathing deep, afraid for the boys' lives.

"Don't worry, momma, I'll keep them safe, I swear! James is going to take my car on a trailer in case they get split up. He has contact numbers to agents in the mapped-out locations we're heading. I must be the one to end this, and I can't rely on anyone else."

That's when Mrs. Cline snaps out of her silence.

"You're making yourself sound like a superhero. I can't lose you boys; I just got you all back together except for Justin."

"He's coming home soon too. I know he teaches at the state police academy. I'm going to see him in a few hours." Josh reveals between each sip.

All Momma Cline can do is shake her head. A grave fear blankets her soul for the boys. In no time, she finishes her beer and leaves the kitchen for her bedroom. Josh sits there to finish off his drink and returns to discover Gwen is awake.

"Hey, you. You disappeared on me."

"Yeah, sorry, can't seem to sleep, sweetie."

Before he realizes it, Gwen yanks at his shorts, pulling his body over hers. Her intentions to help him get to sleep are about to play out.

"This should help," she whispers between nibbles on his ear.

She takes his hands to run up and down her silky peach-colored nightgown.

"Got this while we were out earlier. I gotta keep you all to myself."

Josh says nothing but begins to take control. He begins by kissing Gwen's neck, causing her to moan. From there, he sits up to kiss her passionately with her arms hooked around his shoulder blades.

As the heat from their bodies soars from passionate to sexual urges. Josh shifts to remove his shorts. He quickly drops back in place and positions himself to where he can easily slide into Gwen's soaked opening.

Within seconds after he's fully inserted, Gwen let's out a drawn-out gasp.

"Oh, God, you still feel so amazing." She lets out, staring deep into Josh's eyes.

Without wasting time, the two of them begin to pick up the pace quickly. Gwen digs her nails into Josh's back as each thrust slams into her body with more force than the one before.

"Yes, Josh, fuck yes, baby, don't stop, not yet!" Gwen orders trying to keep her voice low.

The bed begins to squeak and jolt against the wall a bit. That doesn't keep Josh from going even faster with each lunge until Gwen can't control her body's reaction and finally releases her first orgasm.

"YES!" She nearly screams and quickly covers her mouth until she can regain control of her muscles.

"My turn!" She declares, rolling her hips to shift her position to be on top, and doesn't waste time gyrating her hips in a rhythm to push Josh's dick deeper into her body.

To turn things up a notch, Josh uses a technique that drives Gwen over the edge when she's on top. He places his left hand on the small of her back to push forward while his right hand is placed just beneath her belly button, pushing toward the other hand. It forces Gwen's body to cum more often and harder each time her body climaxes.

"Uh, not fair, you cheating jerk!" She tells him, squeezing her inner walls around his shaft tighter to help him cum.

"Don't stop, baby!" Josh demands, feeling his orgasm about to be unleashed.

He moves his hands to grip Gwen's hips. She can feel him explode more than usual within her body, which forces her to experience one final orgasm of her own. They both grunt and groan in unison until their bodies relax, and they both go limp.

Gwen collapses beside Josh and continues to breathe hard. Nothing else is said as they cuddle up again and gradually relax.

By the time Josh's senses snapback, Gwen is dressed and ready for the day.

"Well, good morning, lover, enjoy last night?" She says, seeing his eyes gradually open.

"You know it, babe, you going somewhere?"

Gwen nods and explains.

"Yep, found an SUV yesterday, and I'm going back this morning to get it."

Josh sits up and motions for her to give him a minute.

"Let me get a shower, and I'll go with you. I can write a check, and it'll be yours clean and clear. No payments at all or having to finance it." He offers after his usual morning coughing fit subsides.

"Uh, hello, I am a lawyer, and I can afford my stuff. It's sweet that you think you must handle everything, but I got this baby boy. You just sit there and gather yourself. I'm spending time with Audrey and the kids today. Got to get things ready for the beach, and this gal right here needs a brand-new bathing suit."

Her comments leave Josh chuckling. He takes her advice to relax, falling back onto the bed to stare at the ceiling. When Gwen's finished getting ready, she comes over, kisses him, and vanishes out of the bedroom.

Soon after, she's gone for the day. Josh gets to his feet, about to get his shorts on along with a change of clothes. He's quick to shower and heads out the door, where things play out the way he hopes to recruit the team's final member.
