Action & Consequences

The sound of the rain hitting the glass is near deafening, its random tapping is hypnotic. David can’t stop his fingers from copying the random drumming by creating his own matching rhythm of chaos on the table. The rain is heavy enough for his white shirt to get very wet from travelling from his car and into the otherwise barren roadside café. The shirt has absorbed the rain and had become a little see through whilst sticking to his skin. His brown hair is flat against his head and water droplets are falling onto the table that his fingers use to slide across the table. He draws in a long slow breath before exhaling. “Are you ok sir?” asks a gentle voice that pulls him out of his trance.

“Yes I’m fine but I could do with a towel please if you don’t mind.” A hand holding a towel immediately turns up in front of his face. He lifts his hands and takes it. “Thank you very much.”

“Can I get you anything else like a warm drink?” It was at this point and after David had wiped his face and hair is when his eyes lock onto hers.

“Wow.” He said and she smiles back at him. He feels his face begin to burn up. “I’m sorry.” He said as he pulls his eyes away from her sparkling emeralds and turns them towards her name badge. “Kim I would love a warm pot of coffee.”

“Absolutely I will be back shortly.” She turns on her white flat shoes and walks off back towards the counter. ‘Pull yourself together David’ he thinks, ‘She is at least half your age.’ This thought doesn’t stop the smile appearing on his face. At least if he’s stuck here due to the terrible weather then at least he has someone beautiful to look at. David continues to dry himself off with the towel and he unbuttons a couple of shirt buttons to dry off his chest.

“Well please don’t let me stop you from undoing the rest of your buttons.” Says Kim as she sits across the table from David.

“Well then Kim you’re pretty forward in your servicing approach aren’t you?”

“It’s a part of the job, I enjoy the servicing of handsome men.” She poured a coffee into a cup and places it on the table.

“Well in that case I must say you’re doing a fantastic job.” He smiles at her, a smile that brings a smile to her face also.

“If you play your cards right today I will give you a real servicing and you can start by giving me your name handsome.” Now if he was brutally honest he has had many a fantasy of this scenario. David is forty five and Kim must be, in his guess about twenty one or twenty two. She has tinted her hair a teal colour that mixes beautifully with her black hair. The black bow on top also is a nice touch. To David she certainly does tick every single box.

“My name is David and whilst you want to know more about me I must tell you that I am married.”

“Well David, honesty is such a turn on and if you notice I wear a ring on my wedding finger also.” She flashes her hand out in front of her face and wiggles her fingers. “But I can guarantee that we both won’t be getting home to our respective partners tonight. So why not have a little fun.”

David turned his head to see the rain falling harder and the dark clouds covering all of the sky. Even though it’s only early evening you could easily be forgiven in thinking that the night is drawing in. “I have a long way to travel to get home.”

“Didn’t you hear the news?”

“What news?”

“That all roads are being closed due to the dangers of this weather, it said that all vehicles apart from emergency vehicles are being banned from travelling due to the loss of life risk. So we’re stuck here. Just you and me until further notice.” David can easily tell by the tone of her voice that she is more than happy to be stuck here with him.

“I could be a danger to you Kim.” He said.

“Let’s hope not because the only time I get tied down is for reasons other than being robbed David.”

“Holy Christ.”

“What’s the matter, too much for you?”

“Well.” He said back wanting to slow her down. Thoughts of his wife at home made him rethink his scenario. “Actually no I think I can handle this speed.”

“Really?” She asked whilst a very cheeky smile appeared. “Well then I do think it’s time to lock up shop and close these shutters on the windows because we don’t want any permanent damage done now do we.” She gets up and grabs the keys from behind the till by bending over the counter, as soon as she has bent over she feels David behind her. She takes a deep breath in shock, she is lifted by her shoulders to an upright position.

“I like the idea of someone walking in and finding us together Kim.” She had moved her hands around to feel David’s well-formed ass. “You say yes to me and we wouldn’t share another word until after.” He moves his hands to her arms, to the side of her chest not touching until he had permission. It wasn’t long at all before she whispered her reply.

“Yes.”

Kim is forced head down onto the desk and as she went she was able to push the complimentary food supplies off the side. David has now crossed the point of no return and it was with more than great pleasure he has decided to do so. He pulls down her tights and the thong she is wearing with one motion and knocks her legs apart. A second later and he was in and she was feeling the full force of his endowment.

For both not a word was said as they travelled to a world of grasping temptations, the winds on the outside were picking up and a branch off one of the trees snaps under the pressure and with a great force smashes the windscreen of David’s car, his alarm calls out. Even this isn’t enough to distract the two from their moment for the memories.

ONE YEAR LATER

The traffic is terrible and David has no choice but to sit and be patient. He hits buttons on the dashboard of his car and a ringing tone fills the car. “Hello.” Calls back a female voice. “David where the hell are you?”

“I am stuck in the traffic Debbie, the traffic isn’t in my control now is it.”

“This meeting is very important for me and you gave me your full backing plus you promised to be here.”

“I know I did for Christ sake but I am stuck in the traffic.”

“Why didn’t you leave sooner, I mean I am already here my new boss and his wife are here and I am trying to build strong bonds with them and you at the moment are fucking me over David.” The line goes dead.

“Fuck.” He shouts and head-butts the steering wheel. Instantly he feels a warm liquid falling onto the wheel, he lifts his head to see the crimson and then turns his attention to the rear view mirror. His reflection shows him that using his head in this manner was a real bad idea. ‘That will leave a bruise.’ He opens the glove compartment to grab a packet of tissues. A horn from the car behind startles David to realise that the traffic had begun to clear up in front. “Fuck off I get it I’m in the same shitty traffic jam as you, you prick.” He immediately pulls his car over to the side of the road, grabs his coat and phone from the passenger seat and gets out of the car slamming the door as he walked onwards towards the restaurant to meet is very upset wife.

David walked at a slow pace in the direction of the restaurant, slowly but steadily because he wanted to get there to support his wife but these lunch meetings are not his thing. He is pressing the tissue up against his forehead to slow the blood flow. As he is walking he passes a convenience store and slows his pace some more. “You know what I think I will.” He says aloud just to convince himself that it was the correct thing to do. He steps into the store and straight up to the counter. “Can I have a packet of henri winterman’s half corona’s please sir?” The sales assistant from behind the counter obliges to this request whilst not really being able to take his eyes of the recent marking to David’s face.

“Could I get you something for that cut sir?” he asks politely.

“No thanks.” Came back the short sharp response. The rest of the transaction is done in silence until it came to paying to which David hands over more than he needs to. “Keep the change for yourself.” The sales assistant is more surprised to discover that the customer had handed over £100.

Smoking the half corona is going to cause more tension between himself and Debbie. He knows this but he at this moment in time couldn’t give a shit. Time passes pretty quickly and David finds himself standing outside of the restaurant still smoking. ‘Now how do I go about explaining all of this?’ He thought. ‘I look a fool and I smell of smoke.’ He looks through the window to see if he could spot his wife and new business partner in a world of ‘I don’t give a shit.’ He does spot the blonde hair of a lady that he believes could be his wife but he had left the house that morning before she did so he had no clue as to how she had decorated her hair or to what dress she had decided to wear. The one thing David could guarantee is that his wife will be wearing a dress, her wardrobe is filled with dresses. “Well then, in for a penny and in for the pound.”

David opens the door to the restaurant and walks up to the service desk. “I would like to be pointed in the direction of the Stone table please, it is supposed to be a table of four and I’m late obviously.”

“Yes of course sir.” The waiter looks down at his reservation list and David takes this time to look around the very busy restaurant. The ambient noise of people talking blends into one. These are the exact locations and scenarios David could do without in his life but married life does carry some sacrifices. “If you could follow me sir I believe they’re at the back of the restaurant with the view of our path and trees.” The waiter walked off as posh as a proud penguin, David follows frowning at the back of the waiter’s head. ‘View of our path and trees?’

The looks David is getting is obviously because of the bump on the head that he can himself feel growing out of his head with the blood now drying onto it to stop it from oozing. A headache is certainly going to follow and he knows there’s only himself to blame. “Now if you go through those double glazed patio doors at the end there you will be into the special area and your table is in there.”

“Special area?”

“Well of course it is special sir because we make it our priority to make your reservations with us very special.” Then he turns and leaves David standing at the end of the restaurant. ‘What a prick.’ He does do as instructed by going through the patio doors onto a decking area and the view is astonishing. You can see the wilderness from inside a smaller room that by a guess can hold around six separate tables of about four people on each but now there is only one table which has evidence of people having already eaten, there is empty plates and drink glasses. “Shit shit shit.” David takes in a deep breath as he realises he’s going to have to search for his wife in all of the trees.

A short walk into the trees and David spots a wooden bench, a perfect place for him to sit down and call his wife on his mobile. The headache he was expecting is now coming on. He finds his wife’s number on his smart phone and taps the call button and waits. After three rings with no answer he cancels the call, closes his eyes in despair knowing this will probably be the end.

“Hello handsome.” Calls a voice that David recognised but couldn’t define how. He opens his eyes to see a woman he thought he wouldn’t ever see again.

“Fuck me.”

“So I wondered if you would recognise me David.” A woman wearing a tight fitting black dress takes a seat next to David. “How have you been?”

“How have I been? Well firstly this right here is completely fucked up. What are you doing here?” The woman rests her hand on top of his leg.

“Didn’t you realise that your wife and my husband are new business partners?” David is stunned into silence. “I mean it took a little persuasion on my part for my husband to hire your wife but I think it’ll be beneficial for us.” David looks into the eyes of a woman he had spent a wonderful day with and looking into her eyes he could almost grasp her soul, a soul that has been damaged. David feels a connection immediately.

“Kim, have you been searching for me?” A smile appears on her face and her eyes glaze over.

“You have remembered my name.” she says whilst a tear strolls down her face.

“I have never forgotten your name and I’ve never forgotten our day that we had together. Our moment of lustfulness was certainly a highlight of a real shitty day weather wise. I mean look at today.” He waves his hand out in front of them both. “The sun is shining through the trees and the wind is warm enough to take a stroll down this beautiful path.”

“That’s exactly what our respective partners decided to do, whilst talking business and I have to admit I was worried you wasn’t going to make it.” Their eyes met again and a loud silence falls between the two. “I have spent a long time trying to find you because I believe we should be together.”

“What Kim, Why are you thinking this? It is madness to think we could be together. We spoke that night about all the ifs buts and maybe if life was different.”

“I want to be with you and I think we should give it a try.” Another look into each other’s eyes displays a simple fact that the night just over a year ago meant so much more to David then just a one night stand or a dirty little affair.

“Kim I can’t see us being together, we both have so much to lose.”

“I don’t care.” Kim interrupts and gets to her feet. “I know we should give this a try and I am going to tell my husband the truth today because I can’t keep it a secret anymore and I would love you to be by my side whilst I do.” David is certainly feeling throbbing in his head now. This day is certainly not going to any sort of plan he could have conceived.

“David there you are.” Calls a very familiar voice, he turns his gaze from Kim to Debbie and he was certainly correct in his ideas of what his wife would be wearing. She had become very predictable. Next to her stands a man in a posh suit which it was easy to determine, even for David that the man has to be his wife’s new boss and more importantly he has acknowledged the fact that he is Kim’s husband. But he is speechless to the fact that he is pushing a pram, a tiny pram for a tiny baby. “Come and meet my new boss.” Demands Debbie with a glare in her eyes that he only knew too well. “And come and meet this sweet little baby boy who, by coincidence has the very same name as you.” David turns his head to look at Kim and she smiles a shy smile and her eyes yet again fill.

“How old is the little one?”

“Just under three months.” Replies Kim’s husband. Kim nods in agreement. “Let’s head back inside and share a celebratory drink because I believe we can do business together but for now let us share a bottle of wine for this fine day.” He led the group back towards the restaurant and Debbie followed close by, only sparing a second to look at the wound to David’s head. But he and Kim held back for a few more seconds.

“Yes David, he is yours from that night. The night that has given me a new meaning to life and I am willing to risk everything to fight for him and for you. For us to be a happy family, so I want to ask you right here and now. Will you stand by me?”
