Chapter 6

We end up going to the local diner. The three of us manage to grab the last booth. It appears that half the senior class had the same idea. Between the three of us we order enough food to feed an entire army. We spend time sharing stories, joking, and laughing between us. After a while I sat back and watched as Phelan and John tried to out do each other by telling the most embarrassing story they had involving the other. I laughed so much my sides hurt. We parted ways to get ready for the party. Phelan accompanied me to my house as he 'didn't give two shits' how he looked. Guys have it so easy. He sat on my bed as I changed and did my hair. Every time I would pass him, he would grab me and kiss me somewhere on my body, making me giggle every time. Because of this, getting ready took longer than it should have.

We could hear the bass of the music as we pulled up to Tommy's house. The best parties were always held here. I haven't been to many this last semester though. There were already people everywhere. The front yard, the back yard, and all through the house. All with some form of drink in their hands. There was a DJ in the living room with the sound fed through the speakers throughout the house and back yard. I can already some people in the pool, some dancing around it. It looked like the entire year was here. We entered through the open front door into a large foyer. There were empty cups on every surface and people talking in small groups or hanging out on the stairs that lined one wall. From there we made our way into the lounge. The music was loudest here. There were a large amount of people dancing in the middle of the room. The couches and furniture had been pushed against the walls to make room for this very purpose.

"I can't see John anywhere. He was going to meet us here yeah?" I ask Phelan.

"Yeah, he'll be here somewhere. Let's go get a drink. Maybe he is in the kitchen."

I nod following him through the crowd into the kitchen where there was a make-shift bar where you could mix your own drinks, as well as beer in coolers, and something in a large bowl that looked like punch but smelt lethal.

"How about I make us something?" Phelan said after giving the punch a suspicious look.

"Yeah, I would prefer that." I smile.

He gets to work mixing a few different things together before adding some coke. He hands it to me, and I take a sip. It was surprising. I couldn't taste the alcohol at all and found it quite refreshing. I hum in approval causing a grin to come onto Phelan's face before he had some of his. After that we walked outside to the pool area. We finally saw John sitting on one of the chairs around the pool. We made our way over to him.

"Did we miss anything?" Phelan jokes.

"Nah, just a bunch of inflated egos becoming obnoxious with the copious amount of alcohol consumed." He rolls his eyes.

I snort out a laugh. "That is the fanciest way I have heard someone say a bunch of idiots getting drunk." The boys chuckle. "We didn't keep you waiting too long, did we?"

"Nah, its all-good Kasey. I haven't been here that long myself."

I nod as Phelan takes a seat next to him before pulling me onto his lap. We hang by the pool, drinking and watching the activity around us. As the sun set everything seemed to amp up. There were more people dancing. A few party games were being played in the various rooms. And everyone seemed to be enjoying the time. I was starting to relax. We had moved away from the pool and were in the living room. Phelan and John were talking as I was swaying to the music. Phelan was holding me from behind with his hands around my waist. He would occasionally lean down and kiss my neck as I swayed. I turned in his arms and laced my hands behind his neck.

"I am going to get another drink." I whisper yell to him.

"Okay babe, want me to mix another one?"

"Nah, I will just grab a bottle of something." I raise to my toes and give him a kiss. "I won't be long."

I make my way around the crowd dancing in the centre of the room. I keep to the wall as much as possible to stay out of everyone's way. I make is into the kitchen and grab a vodka cruiser. I am looking for a bottle opener when I hear a nasty voice behind me. I turn, knowing who I will see.

"Oh no. who let the trash in." Rachel says sneering at me while looking me up and down. "Someone should tell Tommy. His life is in danger." Her minions titter behind her. Sheep.

"Leave me alone Rachel." I say, trying to move around her. She pushes me back.

"No one wants you here. Just take the hint." She is right in my face now.

"What's your problem Rachel? High school is over. You wont ever see me again after this summer!" I yell at her.

"My problem is YOU! it should have been YOU! you were the useless one. You were the trash, the pathetic little tag along. NO ONE EVER LIKED YOU. we kept you around for ENTERTAINMENT." She has me backed up against the cupboards, yelling in my face.

"Why are you so threatened by me?" I know I should stop and not antagonise her, but I am sick of this treatment.

"Threatened?!" she laughs in my face. She looks crazy. "Please! You are nothing."

"That is obviously not true. You can tell that I am going to succeed in my life and that gets to you doesn't it. You know why Rachel? That's because your best years were during high school and now it is all downhill for you."

'YOU BITCH!" she screams before slapping me directly across my face. She throws her drink on me, staining my top with what I assume was the punch, before turning and storming off.

I turn around and lean on the bench trying to calm myself down. I look down at my top, now stained orange, and sigh. I know there is no saving this. I finally find a bottle opener and open my drink. I feel like I need something stronger than this now though. I quickly take a bottle of one of the spirits and take a gulp, hissing as the spirit burns my throat. I am just about to make my way back to where I left the guys when I see Phelan walk through the door.

"I was just about to come back to you." I smile, falling into his arms.

"You took a while so I thought I would come and get you." he kisses my forehead. "You, okay?" he points to my top.

"Yeah, I am fine. Just a little accident." I take a long drink from my bottle. Phelan frowns at me, I know he doesn't believe me.

"I'm going to make another drink. You want me to make you one? Looks like that one wont last." I smile at him.

"Yeah, I love your drinks."

"John's back at the pool, why don't you go find him, I'll bring it out too you."

"Okay, cool." I make my way outside.

I find John pretty much where he was originally. I make my way over to him and take a seat next to him.

"Geez, Kasey, what happened?" he looks at me with genuine concern.

"Just a spillage." I say, avoiding his eyes. I take another drink. When I do look at him, I see him slightly frowning at me as if trying to read my mind.

Phelan walks over to where we are, I shamelessly watch him as he gets closer. His face lights up with a smirk as he gets closer. He pulls me up before sitting where I was and pulling me onto his lap. I nuzzle into his neck. He puts my drink down on a table next to us as I finish my current one. John excuses himself as he wanders into the house. I pay no attention as I am happy in Phelan's arms. In his arms I feel like I am safe from everyone and anything that could harm me. when John comes back his mood has severely changed. I can feel his anger as he sits back next to us.

"What happened with Rachel, Kasey?" he asks through gritted teeth. I gulp.

"Nothing really happened." I automatically reply.

"Kasey, the whole party is talking about it." He spits, turning to look at me.

"What is he talking about, babe? Did something happen." Phelan asks turning my head to him. I flinch when he does thanks to the slap Rachel gave me. He of course notices, turning to shoot John a look. "Babe," he whispers, "tell me."

I take a deep breath, looking down. "She cornered me in the kitchen. I can't even really remember what was said, but she slapped me and poured her drink on me." I feel his arms tighten around me. "Please babe, its over. I wont ever have to see her again once college starts."

I can see his jaw clench. I know he wants to confront her, but I am over all this mess. I am ready to go on with my life. I look to John to see an identical look on his face.

"Please, let's not let this wreck our night." I make eye contact with them both. They nod both agreeing to not take it further.

We stay by the pool a bit longer. At one point John goes to grab himself a beer. I am still on Phelan's lap, kissing his jaw before I jump up and dance around him when my favourite song plays. I love his eyes on me, so I put on a bit of a show. I have had just enough alcohol to feel a warm buzz, but I have been spacing my drinks to not get drunk. In fact, most of Phelans cocktail he made me is still on the table. I dance right through the song and into the next before I feel like I need some fluid. I walk up to the table and grab my drink. I take a gulp as I turn. As I am drinking a little more, Phelan grabs me, pulling me to him, making me straddle him and causing me to drop my drink in the process. I giggle as he starts to nibble my neck.

"You were purposely dancing like that weren't you? wanting to drive me crazy babe?" he sucks my neck making me moan.

"Oh my god, I swear every time I turn my back you to are at it." John teases.

I laugh at his joke as I turn to face him as well as Phelan. As we are talking, I start to feel unwell. I try to ignore it and continue to engage with the conversation. John notices I am looking pale.

"Kasey are you okay?" he asks concerned. Phelan turns my face to his.

"Babe, you look pale."

"I don't feel so good." I say, trying to get up. "I will go splash some water on my face." I take a step and almost collapse.

"Jesus, babe." Phelan catches me before I hit the ground. He looks at John. "She can't be drunk. I have been keeping track of her drinks." John kneels next to me. my head lolls to the side.

"I think she's drugged." He says. He holds my head and opens my eye. "Yeah, look at her pupils."

"Phelan?" I whimper. "I don't like this feeling." He pulls me to his chest.

"It's okay, I've got you." he kisses my head.

"Take her home and keep her hydrated. We don't know what she had been given, but I have an idea."

Phelan nods as he stands and picks me up. As he is walking to the car, I hear the noise of the party become muffled. My head is spinning, and I can't focus on any one thing. Last thing I remember is Phelan buckling me in and closing the car door.
