Firefight

~Ignite's POV~

The street was a mess. Civilians panicking and running in every direction, screaming their heads off. The bank was missing a huge chunk of wall, exposing the interior of the vault, and the one responsible was attempting to shoot me.

"Armory! You really gotta stop this! I'm tired of your shit!" I yelled from behind a car. While normally bullets would melt upon hitting me, since her weapons are part of her power they're modified slightly.

"Stop what, Dear?~" She stopped firing. "I need this money! If we're gonna go on fun dates, I need to be able to treat you!"

"How many times do I have to tell you we aren't dating you psycho bitch!" I called out.

"Aww, don't be like that! You'll break my heart if you say such mean things to me." She wiped a fake tear away from her face, then pulled out a hand grenade, seemingly out of nowhere. Then, she threw it at the car I'm behind.

"Fuck." I dove out from behind the car, just in time to avoid the explosion. "Where the fuck did you even get a fucking grenade?!"

"Well, if I told you that, it wouldn't be a secret anymore, now would it Dear?" She winked at me.

I sighed, then absorbed the flames from the explosion "You should know better than this by now Armory, come on!"

She pulled out a M134, also known as a Minigun. "There's no way that's military grade..." I muttered.

"No hard feelings, okay Sweetie?" She gave me a psychotic smile, before she opened fire on me.

I tried my best to avoid the hail of bullets, quickly blasting jets of fire to move faster and to get to better cover, but even with my flames, I wasn't fast enough to avoid them all.

"Agh!" I crashed to the ground, clutching at my right leg. I looked at my leg, and it was riddled with bullet holes. "Fuck! That really fucking hurts! Levia is gonna fucking murder me!" Blood and flames were seeping out of my leg at an alarming rate, it's gonna be one of those days.

Slowly, I tried standing, but collapsed. "Hey Armory?! ALL THE HARD FEELINGS FOR THIS!" I've been hit and shot a lot, but this one was gonna be among the worst. You could practically see the barely intact bone in my leg. Meanwhile, Armory faked a gasp "But...Dear! I only need to make sure you can't move around! I don't want to tear up your...gorgeous...hot self but I have to—" she was cut off by a rather...violent blast of water.

"You fucking bitch!" I heard Douse, venom laced her words.

"Douse!" I yelled, very happy to see her arrive at the perfect moment again. She then turned and shot me the coldest glare I've seen yet. "Oh...Uh...Don't worry about the leg!" I managed to stammer out, no longer happy to see her arrive. "Please...don't kill me?"

She scoffed, before turning her attention to Armory.

"You're gonna have bigger issues to worry about Hothead." Another female voiced, once again laced with venom, said from behind me.

I felt the color drain from my face. Slowly and shakily, I turned my head and saw Levia. "O-O-Oh...h-hi...Levia."

Her cold glare faltered when she saw the condition I was in.

"Oh my god, Ignite! Your leg!" She ran over to me. She was visibly shaking, and I could see tears forming in her eyes. "I-I'll try to fix it! I told you yesterday! What if I can't fix everything!? You go and try to prove me right so damn soon?!?" Tears were actually running down her face now, and I could feel a pain in my chest. I can't believe...I worried Levia this much.

"I'm sorry..." I wiped away her tears, and tried to give her my best smile, albeit a little strained. "L-Look I'll make this right okay? I won't do it again. I promise."

"D-Don't make promises you can't keep! Idiot!"

While Levia worked on healing my leg, Douse was still in a standoff with Armory.

"You fucking bitch." Douse hissed. Uh oh. It's been nice knowing you, Armory.

"How...dare you..." Armory said. "You...interrupted my time alone...with Ignite! Right before I was going to see what my handsome flame's face looked like!"

Armory tossed the Minigun aside, and it disappeared in a shimmer of air. "Do you know how difficult it is to fix weapons when you keep giving them water damage!?" Armory fumed as she pulled out a pistol, my vision was a tad hazy from the blood and flame loss, my hearing however, was just fine enough to hear a familiar and terrifying sound.

Douse had raised her hands and shot a quick jet of water, which Armory dodged out of reflex, and probably a good thing too, the jets of water cut right through the concrete wall. "I'M GONNA GIVE YOU WATER DAMAGE FOR SHOOTING UP MY BOYFRIEND'S LEG, YOU GODDAMN HOMEWRECKER!"

"I'm GoNnA gIvE yOu WaTeR dAmAgE!" Armory mocked her as she started firing rounds at Douse.

"Hey, uh, Levia? You almost done down there?" My vision started to get a little blurry from all the loss of blood and flames.

"I-I'm doing the best I can!" She replies frantically. "It's hard to heal you when I'm getting burnt by the wounds! At least Douse is easier to heal when she just leaks water instead of flames! And even Zephyr just has flowing wind in his wounds! Even those damn annoying twins bleed normally!"

"Yeah...fair enough." I sighed. "Sorry. I didn't mean to rush you. And I'm sorry that I'm always such a burden to you."

She looked at me, shocked, then shook her head. "You aren't a burden. This is what I signed up for."

"Really? You signed up to heal a leg that's barely intact?"

"W-Well, maybe not that specifically. This is definitely one of the worse injuries I've seen."

"What's the worst?"

"Someone's arm got cut off." She said that like it was nothing new to her.

"Uh...huh. And how many times have you seen someone whose limb was cut off?" I'm genuinely curious.

"About...four...maybe five." She looked at my leg again. "Although, those were all clean cuts. This is definitely the most gruesome injury I've had to heal."

There were sounds of gunfire and water splashing as I was being healed. Douse had been getting dangerously close to legitimately killing Armory. I love when she gets jealous. "STAY STILL SO I CAN KILL YOU!"

"YOU stay still so I can kill YOU!" Armory shouted back, though she had a playful tone in her voice, like she knew it would piss off Douse even more.

Armory...you should really stop. At this rate, she actually will kill you.

That's when a literal blast of wind knocked Douse and Armory to the ground. A deeper male voice shouted from a nearby roof "HOW MANY GOD DAMN TIMES DOES YOUR FUCKING AROUND GET PROPERTY DAMAGED AND DESTROYED!?!" Zephyr roared in anger at us. He hopped down, the wind swirling at his feet to control his descent. Armory tried to take another shot but a sharp slice of wind cut her hand, leaving a gash. "YOU STAY THERE QUIETLY AND WAIT FOR ARREST." He then pointed at me. "YOU. HOW ARE YOU FUCKING UP ANOTHER FIGHT?!? AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE THE NUMBER ONE HERO IN THIS CITY?!" Zephyr sighed. "I honestly have no clue how you became the number one hero over me."

"Uh, maybe because I've not only caught more villains than you, but am just stronger than you as a whole? Or I'm not a giant asshole to people being saved?" I sarcastically said.

He squinted his eyes at me, before shooting a slice of wind past my head. "Next time, I won't miss."

"Please, like you'd even have a chance against me if we fought head to head. That may have actually tickled a little bit if you actually hit me." I squinted back at him.

Although it looks like we hate each other...nah, I got nothing. We actually kinda do. But this time, I just hate to admit he has a point. I played too much this time, and it definitely cost me and the city.

"Fine...I messed up. It won't happen again. I'm sorry. But I barely had a chance to fight! She threw a fucking grenade at me, then shot me when I was trying to avoid it!"

"She threw...WHAT?!" Douse yelled. Her piercing gaze fell back to the spot where Armory last was, but she was gone, a small heart made of empty shell casings lay there in her stead, with a lit match in the middle. Douse's eyes looked like they would be on fire if she didn't have water running through her body. "Next time I see that bitch...I'm going to blast a hole through her stomach!"

Then, her attention landed on me again, and the look of fury quickly melted into a look of concern.

"Ignite!" She ran over to me, dropping on her knees in front of me.

"Don't worry ab-" I was cut off by a smack to the face.

"Don't worry me like that! You idiot!" Tears rolled down her face.

...What kind of hero am I? I can't even keep my girlfriend, who I love, to rest easy. I'm pathetic.

I reached over to her, and pulled her into my arms. "I'm sorry...for worrying you." I felt tears rolling down my cheek. I hugged her tighter. "I'm sorry."

She hugged me back, her hand grabbing at my coat. "I thought...you were going to die...from all the blood you've been losing." I could hear the pain in her voice. I really don't deserve her. "You scared me...you dumbass."

We sat there for a few minutes, before a voice interrupted us.

"I did the best I could...but there's going to be serious scars all over your leg." Levia stood up. She shot me a cold glare. "If you ever make me worry about you like that again, I'll be the one who kills you."

"Aw, come on Levia, don't be like that. You were just crying over me!" I grinned.

Her face became a deep red, and she was visibly trembling. "WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?! IDIOT! DUMBASS! DEGENERATE!"

"...Degenerate?" I whispered.

Before anyone could say anything, Levia already ran off.

"Did she just call me...a degenerate?" I gave Douse a questioning gaze.

She put her hand up to her mouth. Then, I looked at Zephyr who was on the ground, rolling in laughter.

"AHAHAHAH! It's about time someone finally recognized you for what you are!" After a few more minutes of laughing, he stood up, and left without a word.

...What an asshole.

"Come on, let's get out of here, yeah?" Douse reached her hand out to me, which I gladly took.

We walked, hand in hand, away from all the wreckage. That's more of a job for a hero that has a power that can help build.

"Am I a degenerate?" I asked again. Douse let out a small giggle, but quickly tried to hide it with a hand.

"Yes, you most certainly are. But you're MY degenerate." She gave me a warm smile.

I smiled back. Well, that definitely made me feel better. She always seems to know how to make me feel better.

"I love you." I said.

She looked at me, a blush dusted her cheeks. "I love you too."

~(Y/n)'s POV~

I walked into my dorm, and shut the door behind me. I threw my bag to the side, and fell face first onto the couch.

"It's been...a long day." I sighed. "I'm not looking forward to wearing only long pants..."

I don't wanna move...

Like my prayers were completely ignored, there was a knock on my door.

"Uh...one second!" I called out. I shot up, and ran over to my dresser, before pulling out a pair of sweats, and quickly throwing them on. Once ready, I ran over to the door and composed myself.

I opened the door, and Cass and a girl I've never seen before stood there.

"Hey (Y/n)!" Cass greeted me enthusiastically.

"Hey Cass, hey..."

"Winter." She said.

That's it?

"Winter...?"

She shot me a cold glare that immediately sent a shiver down my spine. "Reyes." Then, she looked away again.

What a pleasant girl.

"Anyways...what's up?" I turned my attention back to Cass.

"Well, my friend Winter here came to me with a question about one of our classes, and I figured you'd be able to explain it better." She smiled at me. "Soooo my oh so smart best friend. What do you say?"

"You don't have to butter me up like that. I would've helped either way." I sighed. "Come in."

I stepped to the side, allowing them to enter.

"Thanks!" Cass walked in, with Winter in tow. "See, I told you he was nice."

Winter nodded, giving me a sideways glance, before focusing her attention back on Cass.

"Can you...let go of my arm now?" Winter asked.

"Hm? Oops, sorry!" Cass let go of her arm.

Winter quickly put her arm at her side.

"So, what could you possibly need help with? Not history of powers again?" I looked accusingly at Cass.

She looked nervous when I said that. "Eheheheh."

Of course.

I sighed. "Fine, what specifically?"

"Healing." Winter said.

"...Uh huh. What ABOUT healing?" I asked. It'd be nice to make some progress here.

Winter didn't answer. Instead, she turned away and walked over to the couch, before plopping down. I looked at Cass.

"Winter is a healer. She wants to make her healing become more efficient and make the wounds heal faster. She's been trying for months, but her healing seems to be at a standstill in terms of progressing." Cass explained to me. Then, she leaned forward and whispered in my ear. "Sorry, she can be a little hard to work with, but she's really caring once you get to know her."

"Must be a common theme between healers..." I muttered, a picture of Levia appearing in my head.

"What?" Cass asked.

"Oh, nothing. Just talking to myself." I turn my attention back to Winter. "Anyways, you'd need to know the history behind powers and their...upgrades in power. History has two notable individuals so far. One hero who bends light, Radiance, says that he just tried his best to keep practicing. This meant when he woke up, whenever he had free time, and before he went to bed. Essentially training and practicing with your power on a pretty regular basis, although I doubt it was that easy, or else anyone could do it. Another example is the Electric villain, 'Raijū', who after twisting gained a stronger version of his own power, which he claims to practice as well, not only showing that practice and training helps, but whatever leading to twisting also may result in your power gaining more influence."

Winter just nodded, while her hand scribbled down what I was telling her.

"Other than that, there haven't been any cases where someone has had an upgrade in power. Well, most people who Twist do see a light power boost, but at a cost to their psyche or part of their body, the best example would be Raijū's insanity, or the stone giant from a few days ago." I explained to Winter. "Now, while you'd think people who are twisting would always sacrifice something for more power, you'd be mistaken. Even villains have fears, and a lot of the time, the people that do sacrifice something usually die because they can't take the immense power."

When I finished, I looked over Winter's shoulder.

"Wow, you really kept up with that?" I asked.

Winter was about to turn to me and say something, before she stopped, and her face grew a deep red. Where have I seen that before?

"W-W-Why are you so close to me?! PERVERT!" She smacked me in the face with her notebook, causing me to stumble back. "Ah! I-I'm so sorry!"

I grabbed my nose, and felt blood slowly trickle out. "Owwwww..."

"Please! Let me heal you!" She ran over to me, and kneeled in front of me. "L-Let me see." She pulled my hand away from my nose. Luckily, the injury wasn't bad enough to cause any flames to leak out.

She slowly put two fingers up to my nose, and slowly rubbed it, making the pain go away almost immediately. There's something so...familiar about this warmth.

I let out a sigh. It feels so nice...

All too soon, she pulled her hand away, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed.

"Are you...feeling okay?" Winter asked, refusing to make eye contact with me. She seemed upset. I guess Cass was right.

I give her a smile. "I'm feeling amazing, thank you."

Her face grew red again, but a smile appeared on her face. Quickly, she replaced it with her usual, uninterested face, walked back to the couch, and started packing her things.

"See, I told you she isn't as cold as she seems." Cass whispered to me again. I nodded.

"Yeah, I guess you were right." I said.

When she finished, I walked them to the door.

"Um, thank you. For helping me." Winter said. "If it'd be okay..." A hint of red was on her cheeks, then she shook her head. "Um...nevermind."

"You can say it, what's up?" I asked.

Winter looked at Cass, who nodded to her with a smile. Then, Winter refocused her attention on me.

"I-If it wouldn't be too much to ask...would you mind...tu...m..." She trailed off, and looked at the ground.

"Huh?"

She slightly nodded, then looked up at me, a new resolve burned in her eyes.

"W-Will you...please tutor me?!" Her face was covered in red. I could tell it took her a lot of courage to ask me that. Then, her eyes widened, and she looked down again. "I mean...if it isn't too much trouble..."

I chuckled, but tried my best to hide it. After a second, I recollected myself, and smiled at her.

"Of course."

She looked up at me, a smile on her face. "Thank you!"

With that, they left.

~Time Skip~

I was walking down the sidewalk. I wasn't in costume. There wasn't anything happening that needed my attention, so I was just taking a walk to pass time.

"Stop." A female voice sounded from behind me.

I turned around, to be met with a gun pointed at my head. A girl with long brown hair and golden brown eyes, not looking too far away from myself in age, was at the other end of the gun.

"Uh...hello to you too."

"Give me all of your money, and you can walk away with no bullet in your head."
