Chapter 10: Cruelties

Russia jolted awake, her eyes snapping open as she reached under the pillow to grab the knife. Only there was no knife. Nor was there a threat.

Only Germany standing over her and shaking her.

“Stop yelling! You're going to make the neighbors talk!” He hissed. What Russia found strange was that he was already dressed.

“What time is it?” Russia whispered, blinking a couple times to better adjust to the darkness.

“6, but that doesn't matter,” Germany sighed, standing up and pushing his glasses back up with two fingers.

“It can't be morning already,” Russia huffed, blinking confusedly now.

“Well it is. Now you better do something useful or leave. I'm going to work,” Germany said, sounding less than happy, though he had always sounded like that since Russia arrived.

“Okay,” She whisper-called as Germany left.

The morning passed slowly, though later she found herself reading through files. Though mainly the ones concerning Auschwitz and Birkenau. What she was looking for she did not know.

Even if she knew what she was looking for, it wasn't in the files. The organization and detachment just confused Russia. To the point where she had to walk around the apartment for a bit, and then make food to occupy herself.

What a strange world… Russia thought as she chopped up some scraggly-looking carrots. What a strange world.
