Chapter 5: The Merchant from the Seas Plays the Graceful Assassin
(Yes, Azul is my favorite character. I love the whole aesthetic of the dorm. This is saying a lot since I didn't actually enjoy the plot of the Disney film. To be honest, Ursula kept up her end of the deal! Ariel has to hold up her end of the deal. Lauriaum is such an interesting character, and I cannot wait to see how he develops. Same with Elrena too who also reminds me of the twins... Enjoy!)
"Well, that wasn't pleasant" Azul grumbled before sitting up on the sandy beach, "Jade, Floyd, are you both alright?"
He didn't bother looking at them for his attention was focused on the vast sea before himself. He didn't understand why, but he felt a connection to it.
"Yes, we are fine" Jade reassured him with a grin, "But whoever did this will most certainly pay, right Floyd?"
"Nah! That was fun! We should do it again, right Azul? Azul?" Floyd asked with a silly smile until he noticed Azul wasn't paying attention to them, "Eh, what's wrong with the sea?"
"It doesn't seem strange to you, does it?" Azul asked curiously, "This place feels familiar, right?"
The twins weren't sure until they let Azul's words sink in. They looked at the area and found themselves on a beach and near the sea. However, they noticed a castle in the distance that leads into town.
"Now that you mention it, this place does feel familiar" Jade answered unsure of why.
"Reminds me of that fairy tale we heard as a kid! The one with the Sea Princess and the Benevolent Sea Witch!" Floyd answered with a grin.
Azul's and Jade's eyes were wide as Floyd was laughing at their reactions. Azul stood up and looked at the sea as he let Floyd's words sink in. If Floyd was correct, then this would mean the Sea Princess and Benevolent Sea Witch were here along with the Sea Princess's father. Her father was also in possession of a trident.
"Boys" Azul said with a knowing, scheming grin, "If that is the case, then that means a certain, powerful trident would also be here, correct?"
The twins shared similar dark smirks of their own. After all, having the trident of the king of the seas is a wonderful token that they could use to help their business reach new heights! They turned their attention to the sea and prepared to obtain it.
"Excuse me" Lauriam called to them with a serious expression, "But I believe you're not from this world, are you?"
At his side is Elrena who held an annoyed expression at them. The Octvanielle trio turned around to see them. Floyd was annoyed while Jade held his pleasant expression with Azul staring right at Lauriam.
"What do you mean we are not from here?" Azul asked as he decided it would be best to get some information regarding their situation.
The two assassins shared a glance before realizing that Azul was trying to get information from them. Lauriam decided to use this to his advantage.
"If you come with me and her, we will explain everything. Right now, your presence is disturbing the peace of this world. It would be unwise for you to remain here. Please come with us" Lauriam offered as he crossed his arms over his chest and observed them.
He hoped Azul would listen to him, but that was far from the case. Azul and the twins noticed that the two assassins were hiding something from them, so they decided to not listen to them. If there are other worlds out there, then perhaps they could use that to their advantage!
"Unfortunately, I must decline. The idea of other worlds is interesting to us, and right now, we are occupied with this one due to it holding an item of interest to us" Azul said in his business voice as he spun the cane into his hands, "Now, we will be departing! Jade! Floyd! Show them a thing or two!"
The twins shared a malicious grin before charging at them with their magic pens in glowing a white light in their hands. Lauriam sighed as he gestured with his head to let Elrena.
"Finally! I was getting bored just standing here! Well, let's give them a few blows!" she said before running towards the twins.
Azul held his cane in front of himself as he and the twins were cautious of her.
"Ah, haha! Let's get them, Jade!" Floyd happily said as he built grass magic into the pen.
"As long as you're having fun, Floyd" Jade replied with water magic forming from his.
Both cast their spells at Elrena who smirked when the spells clashed in front of her. In a flash lighting and clap of thunder, two Elrenas jumped through their spells to clash against each twin's magic pen!
"What is this?/How did she multiple?!" Jade and Floyd exclaimed as they were caught off guard by her!
She crackled at their reactions as Azul began to think of a solution to help the twins. Lauriam simply walked pass them with a shake of his head and approached Azul. As for Azul, he glanced at the sea. He didn't have a lot of options, but if he needed to, he could use his true form to fight back.
"Now, please stop this fighting" Lauriam said as he leaned towards him, "It will not help anyone. We will win and bring you with us. This will not end well"
Azul was panicking internally as he glanced at the sea. He couldn't explain it, but Lauriam's cold glare sent a chill up his spine. Azul was nervous about how he should face Lauriam. He couldn't do this on his own!
"Hey! Leave Azul alone!" Floyd shouted as Jade tried to break away from Elrena.
She wasn't letting up as she then grabbed their sleeves to zap them! Both cried out in pain, causing them to turn and face her in shock!
"Elrena! What are you doing?!" Lauriam shouted as he focused on his partner.
"Teaching these twerps their places! Seriously! This is making more work for us than them and you know it! We've had enough trouble from kids! I do not want to deal with twerp teenagers!" she snapped at him.
Lauriam argued, "Our mission is to bring them in! We were not supposed to bring them harm!"
The couple assassins argued back and forth until Elrena ceased her spell and left the twins in a paralyzed state. As for Azul, he dropped his cane and held himself. Although she didn't realize this, the word twerp struck a certain cord with Azul.
"Why is that word? Why is it always that WORD?!" Azul shouted as the assassins turned to him.
"What's up with him?" Elrena asked as she rolled her eyes at him before shouting, "Hey! I was just stating a fact! What do you want me to do, lie?!"
The twins were still paralyzed, but Floyd let out a frustrated yell with Jade growling.
"What? Is it something I said?" Elrena asked as she glanced to them with an annoyed expression.
"What did you call, Azul?" Jade asked as he gritted his teeth through the paralyzes.
Elrena didn't pay much attention to it as she replied, "You mean twerp? So, what? I've called many of my friends that. Never bothered them nor me before"
"SHUT UP!" Azul shouted as they turned their attention to him.
He was trembling as he took a few steps into the shore to let the water flow into his fancy, polished, black shoes.
"Is that all the world will ever see me as?! Is that all anyone sees me?! A twerp?! There is more to me than that!" Azul shouted as he glared at them with his hands shaking.
Elrena rolled her eyes before snapping, "Hey, get used to it. People will call you names! Grow up and deal with it! Otherwise, you'll be playing into their hands, and I am sure you don't want that, right?"
"What do you possible know about me?!" Azul shouted as he let his magic take over himself, "The pain, the teasing, the suffering I went through! You don't understand a fraction of it!
Something black and purple flew from behind Azul and lunged at Elrena. She stared at it with wide eyes as she felt frozen. Lauriam was quick and pushed out of the way as he felt something strong and wet wrap around his waist to hold him in the air! He felt the thing in question around his waist to gasp in realization of it being a tentacle!
"What?" he questioned until his eyes traced it to Azul!
He was panted heavily with wide, mad eyes as he glared at Lauriam. Lauriam was surprised to see this tentacle coming from Azul while the twins were also in shock. Elrena noticed this too as she summoned her keyblade to hold in front of herself.
"Ok, so that's a neat trick" she commented before focusing on Azul, "Where you going to mention that to us or no?"
Azul simply held himself high before laughing, "Why would I show you a part of me I loathe with such passion that I wish to be rid of it?"
This made the twins worry as they slowly picked themselves up to face Azul.
"Azul, stop" Jade advised, "We shouldn't pick fights with those we don't have contracts with"
"Also, I like the real you" Floyd added, "It's who you are!"
Azul began to shake his head as Lauriam noticed a surprising amount of darkness in him. It also rivaled that of some members of the Organization. Lauriam had to stop Azul from accessing it and harming himself and the others present.
"Seriously, you need to not care what others think about you" Elrena pointed out again, "It won't help you to cling to that past"
Azul was trembling before holding his head. He wanted to stop this darkness from growing out of control, but how could he? He was alone with this! The twins knew of his pain, but they never experienced it! Lauriam was determined to reach out to Azul and turned to the twins.
"Can he regrow his tentacles?!" Lauriam shouted to the twins.
"Yes, but why?" Jade asked surprised.
Lauriam summoned his keyblade before staring at Azul, "I apologize for this!"
In an elegant swing, the keyblade transformed into a beautiful scythe. In a single strike, Lauriam cut the tentacle holding him! Azul gasped as Lauriam fell with grace and landed before him. Lauriam then rushed to Azul and grabbed his shoulder.
"Azul, please" Lauriam spoke in a gentle tone, "Don't use the darkness. You're not alone anymore"
Azul was surprised to hear this from a stranger as he tried to calm himself down.
"How do you know that I am not alone? How do you know that there is someone out there like me?" Azul asked hesitantly.
Lauriam answered softly, "I relate to you and falling into the darkness to find something to cover the pain and heartache of the past"
Elrena was quiet as she lowered her keyblade. She understood Lauriam's darkness as it was her own as well. The twins were little relaxed when they saw Azul calm down a little. Azul's mind was racing as he tried to calm himself down. Lauriam understood using pain? How? Is that possible? As Azul was contemplating this, the darkness began to slowly swirl underneath him.
"Azul" Lauriam said in a caution tone as he tried to reach out to him.
The dorm leader pushed himself away from them and hugged himself. This darkness was out of control! It was causing him to lose control!
"Stay away from me!" he yelled as the darkness latched and pulled him under the sea!
"Azul!" the twins shouted as Lauriam didn't hesitate to dive after him!
Elrena was caught off guard as well as she hoped Lauriam knew what he was doing. Lauriam swam and floated in the sea. He saw nothing but a thick blackness around him. He waved his hand through it and realized it was ink! He wondered where it came from until he felt something strong warp around his right ankle. He gazed down to see a tentacle and nearly let his air out! Suddenly, he was whipped into the air! Lauriam gasped loudly as he felt a rush of air into his lungs and heard Elrena yell in utter horror with the twins gasping.
"What happened to him?!" Elrena exclaimed as everyone turned to see Azul!
Instead of the suit he was wearing, he completely transformed into an octomer! He had eight tentacles, black on the cover while purple underneath and his suction cups! Purple barnacles were on his hips and a golden seashell hanged from his neck. His skin wasn't pale but lilac. His arms were black except for his hands for being pale.
"That's Azul's true form" Jade answered seriously.
"Yeah, but it looks a lot like his Overblot without that creepy phantom behind him" Floyd pointed out as he picked himself up, "Whatever. I am sure we are going to have to beat him up again"
"Again?" Elrena asked suspiciously as she examined Azul.
"We will inform you of our story after we've saved our dear friend" Jade informed her as he stood up, "But I believe it would be beneficial to us if we corporate and save him"
Elrena only nodded her head as she then saw Lauriam. She was sure he was having the same thoughts as she was. Lauriam stared at the form Azul had taken. While it was surprising to discover that Azul was really an octomer, his form is what caught Lauriam's attention. He was sure Brain could understand this, but Lauriam felt the form reminded him of the Heartless. Regardless, this form held a powerful darkness. Something wasn't right.
"Hey!" Floyd shouted as he gained everyone's attention, "So, who am I talking to? Our Azul? Or some other Azul!"
Overblot Azul let out a laugh that Lauriam and Elrena were tense to hear.
"I assure you it is me, Floyd" Overblot Azul spoke gently with a chuckle, "After all, it was thanks to her rude remarks that I was able to achieve this form properly. Oh, think of the contracts and other goods we will be able to procure now that I have this form under my control! I won't be a twerp anymore!"
Floyd let out a delighted cheer while Jade was the one who remained alert.
"Ok, you're not our Azul!" Floyd said before holding a delighted expression, "That means we can rough house with you! Azul wouldn't believe himself to be one! Something tells me there is more to this, but for now, I can't wait to fight you again!"
Lauriam held a bewildered expression as Elrena's was filled with delight. She held her keyblade in front of herself as she let out her own laugh.
"Oh, so now we get to fight! Wonderful!" she said in delight as well before charging at him with the twins at her sides.
Lauriam simply shook his head before gazing at Azul. There was something not right with him. Azul was close to breaking down at Elrena's words and even pulled himself back when he felt this form coming. Why is he now speaking with confidence? Lauriam was sure something wasn't right. He had to wait for the moment to strike and save Azul. He leaned his head and saw the twins and Elrena coming, so that chance was going to occur sooner than later.
"You two have a lot of power, so you better not hold anything back against him, got it?" Elrena taunted as she jumped and held her keyblade above her head.
"Oh, we wouldn't dream of it!" Jade reassured her before casting a spell to control the water.
Floyd was delighted as he jumped through the water that rose thanks to his twin and transformed into his true form! He, and by extension his twin, were moray eels! Floyd clothes were ripped as his legs transformed into a single tailfin. He had gills on the sides of his face as he dove into the water!
"Well, this is certainly something you do not see every day" Lauriam confessed as he made his keyblade disappear and kept his eye on Overblot Azul who swung a tentacle at Elrena.
Overblot Azul wanted to grab the keyblade, but she was quicker. She transformed her keyblade into her electric knives. She ducked and threw the knives at him who used his tentacles to grab and toss it back to her! She was surprised as her knives pinned her to a wall!
"What?! Unfair!" she exclaimed as she tried to pull herself free from the knives.
Jade was surprised as well before turning to Overblot Azul. He would've assumed that would've pacified Azul, but that wasn't the case as Overblot Azul swung his tentacle at him!
"Oh, no you don't!" Floyd said as he jumped up from the water and waved his pen to cast a wave of fire magic to clash with the water to create steam.
Floyd then tackled his brother into the sea as Overblot Azul was furious.
"Oh? Are you going against our contract?" he demanded as Elrena turned her attention to him.
"You're kidding me" she said with an annoyed expression, "You made your friends sign a contract? You're a horrible friend too!"
He turned to glare at her and wave his tentacle at her. Her eyes were wide as she saw the tentacle coming towards her. Lauriam struggled in Overblot Azul's hold as he tried to break free. Just as the tentacle was about to strike her, the twins jumped up from the water and pounced on the tentacle!
"Sorry Azul! But you can't hurt her!" Floyd said with a grunt as he wrestled with it.
"Not to mention the amount of damages you could get sued for" Jade remined as he even wrestled with the tentacle.
Overblot Azul let out a frustrated yell as he proclaimed, "And yet she's just like those bullies! They are the ones who should suffer for hurting others and their appearances! I am doing what is right with the spirit of benevolence!"
Lauriam closed his eyes as he finally understood Overblot Azul's reason. Lauriam calmed his breathing and knew what to do.
"Twins! Can I trust you to save my partner?" Lauriam asked seriously.
"Uh, sure?" Floyd replied unsure with Jade answering, "Very well. We can do that"
The Graceful Assassin then focused on Overblot Azul who glared at him.
"As for you, I believe we need a little heart-to-heart moment" Lauriam answered as he summoned his keyblade to then transform it into a scythe again.
In a clean strike, Lauriam cut the tentacle holding himself and then spun himself forward towards the caught off guard Overblot Azul who held a fearful expression. Lauriam's vision showed his little sister in a scared manner. For now, Lauriam had to be an older brother and reach out to the scared teen. His scythe transformed into his keyblade as he dove at Overblot Azul.
"May my heart be my guiding key" Lauriam whispered as light gathered to the tip of the blade.
He let out a yell as he swung the blade to strike Overblot Azul's chest to reach his heart! In a flash of pink and gray light, Lauriam and Overblot Azul were frozen in place!
"What happened to them?" Jade asked as he was caught off guard by this and noticed the tentacle was also frozen.
"Lauriam dove into your friend's heart" Elrena explained annoyed, "He's basically talking with him at the Station of Awakening. That means he's leaving me to save them. How annoying"
Jade hummed before diving into the water to transform himself back to normal. He waved his pen to have his clothes reappear and approached Elrena. He grinned before waving his pen upward to create a powerful wave of water to wash Elrena free from her knives. She sighed and shook her head to get some of the water out of her hair.
"Couldn't you have done that better?" she asked, thoroughly annoyed and frustrated with him. '
"I could've, but you were the lady who did cause a dear friend of ours to react in this manner" he said with a chuckle as Elrena rolled her eyes at them.
She picked herself up and tried to get some of the water out of her clothes before turning to the frozen forms of her partner and the teenage octomer. She shook her head before holding her hand out to have her knives jump to her hand and transform into her keyblade.
"Well, stand back. I've got to save them" she said as she pointed her keyblade at them to gather a strong light to the tip of the blade.
Jade and Floyd watched her curiously before turning to their friends with interested expressions.
"Hah!" Lauriam grunted as he found himself free falling towards a beautiful, light purple and gray Station of Awakening.
He gracefully landed on his feet and observed the Station before him. It was Azul gazing downward with some of his tentacles present. There were three faces also present on the Station. Lauriam recognized the twins, but he didn't know who the third person was.
"That would be the prince of my home" Azul answered as Lauriam gazed upward to find Azul holding his cane and facing him with a little tremble, "And what are you doing here? What is this place? Are you here to mock me as well?"
Azul was guarded and defensive from his past. Lauriam was saddened to see this as he reflected on his treatment with Sora, Namine, and their friends. He knew he could never undo the pain he inflected on them, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to change for the better and help others.
"Why don't we talk?" Lauriam offered as he decided to sit down and gestured for Azul to sit down.
He could tell that Azul wasn't going to listen to him so easily. Lauriam took note of their location and closed hie eyes as mirrors floated around them. Azul glanced around themselves to see the mirrors displaying events before themselves.
"What is this?" Azul asked in a cautious tone before a mirror changed to display a young Lauriam sitting in a flower field with his sister.
They were chatting with each other without a care in the world. Then, a dark shadow was cast over them as Lauriam was left alone. He shouted for his little sister and found himself alone. Behind him stood Elrena who was holding a worried expression as they never left each other's sides. Then, he was standing in a room with Ephemer, Skuld, Ventus, and Brain. They trying to console him, but a darkness fell upon them which came from Ventus.
"What am I seeing?" Azul wondered aloud as he lowered his cane and saw the mirrors and images.
"This is my life" Lauriam answered with a distant expression, "I believe you and I have a similar history. I wanted to show you mine and confirm if I was correct"
Azul was surprised as he turned to see the images from the mirrors. Azul saw Lauriam rushing towards Ventus and shook him. He yelled at the young Ventus before the darkness burst from him and attacked the others! Lauriam tried to fight the darkness, but he was beaten easily. Then, he found himself being tossed around when it came to traveling forward in time when he wanted to find his little sister.
"I was so consumed with finding her that I lost sight of everything else, including the light and my keyblade" Lauriam spoke with a sadden tone as he opened his eyes to see the events of his life play out again.
He and Elrena were searching for his little sister until they were scattered to other worlds by moving forward in time. From then, Lauriam was found by Xigbar and was changed to Marluxia. From there, Marluxia carried out the orders from the Organization 13 and even took Namine. He made Namine mess with Sora's memories and had almost tried to kill Sora at their time at Castle Oblivion. Marluxia even took on a dangerous form and fought with Sora until Sora was the victor.
"You're an assassin?!" Azul realized in horror.
"Yes, I am. I've tried to kill them on many occasions" Lauriam confessed with a shake of his head, "But that was because I lost myself to my own fears and worries over my little sister. If I had only opened my heart up to others, then I would've had a better chance of finding my little sister and not losing myself to the darkness. I am sure you understand that as well, Azul"
Azul sighed as he dropped his cane before sitting in front of Lauriam. The mirrors changed their images to reveal his childhood to the Graceful Assassin.
"When I was a child, I was picked on for my appearance. I wasn't always like this" Azul confessed as he closed his eyes when the mirrors displayed his childhood.
Lauriam observed the mirrors and found a small, round octomer being surrounded by merchildren who were picking on him, calling him harmful names. A young Azul was crying as he slowly moved away from them. He continued to cry as the years went on.
"I couldn't forget their cruel words and jeers" Azul said with a glare, "I decided from then that I would be better than them. I wouldn't be the same small, dim witted, twerp they knew. I would own my own company and make my own wealth and riches!"
The mirror changed to reveal another scene. This time, it was Azul and those twins standing in a lounge as students were flocking to them. They were earning income but at the expense of the student's wellbeing and goods.
"I took anything I wanted from them if they accepted my contracts" Azul confessed with a grin, "I earned their skills and could do anything! That was until I was stopped by a dull, ordinary human"
The scene changed to display the twins and Azul facing Leona, Ruggie, Jack, Yuu, and Grim. They were in his way of achieving his goal of obtaining Yuu's dorm and gaining more money and power. It soon changed to Azul screaming when Leona cast his unique magic to destroy the contracts Azul had accumulated. Azul had watched all of his hard work turn to dust and drifting away as golden dust.
"Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased with this result" Azul confessed as the mirrors revealed his breakdown and transformation into his true form before everyone.
They were terrified and surprised to see his true form as he laughed and fought with them. Though, it was thanks to their combined efforts that they were able to save and stop Azul. Lauriam only smiled when the twins embraced Azul and others teased him.
"And as you can see, it was thanks to them that I was saved, as much as it pains me to admit that" Azul confessed with his cheeks flushed of embarrassment.
Lauriam smiled warmly as the mirrors also displayed Lauriam's history. Azul was surprised to see the Graceful Assassin helping his former enemies and even saving them! Then, Lauriam happily embraced his little sister who was so happy to be with him again. Elrena even teased him for his soft nature, but Lauriam only smiled.
"They helped me more than I deserved" Lauriam confessed with a grin, "If it weren't for my friends, I do not believe I would be here. I am sure you understand this as well"
Azul sighed and nodded his head in understanding, "Yes, yes, I know. It is thanks to them that I am still standing and facing the world. I could've done it without the fight though"
Lauriam only laughed in understanding. He couldn't count the times he was in a fight with his friends and enemies alike. Azul finally sighed and relaxed as he understood Lauriam's meaning.
"I suppose this is why you believe you understand me" Azul realized as he gazed at his Station of Awakening, "We've been in similar situations and reacted differently to it, but in the end, we were said by those closest to us and those we wanted to use"
Lauriam nodded his head before holding his hand out to Azul who raised a brow at him.
"Why don't we work together to be better than we were before?" Lauriam offered, "Let's prove to them that we better and plan to be the best we can be to those important to us. What do you say, Azul?"
The octomer student only grinned before taking Lauriam's hand to answer with a grin, "It's a deal!"
The two shook their hands and grinned as the area around them began to light up. Azul was surprised, but Lauriam knew what was coming.
"Well, that took her a while. I wonder if she was tempted to leave me here" Lauriam wondered in a joking tone, "Though, I know she wouldn't"
The light consumed them like a warm blanket to return them to their friends.
"Eh, are you sure it is working?" Floyd asked as he was tired of waiting in the water for Elrena to save their friends.
"Hey! This takes a lot of time, power, and patient! If I am not careful, I could break our friends and their hearts!" she snapped at him who only laughed in reply.
Jade was a little worried, but he smiled at them. Elrena focused on her keyblade as she gasped in delight when the light finally gathered to the tip of the blade!
"Alright! Let's save them!" she shouted before letting out a yell and casting the light to strike both.
In a flash of light, both were returned to them. Azul nearly slipped, but Lauriam skillfully caught Azul before he fell into the water. Azul gazed at Lauriam and nodded as thanks until Floyd jumped to embrace Azul! Azul let out a strangled cry as fell into the water with Jade sitting beside them with a grin.
Lauriam went to stand by an annoyed Elrena who crossed her arms over her chest with him whispering, "Well, that ended better than I thought. Don't you agree?"
"I guess" she replied as she sighed at them, "But I am grateful it didn't escalate, I suppose"
That was the closest she would get to admitting that she was relieved and thankful everything was fine. She felt her Gummi phone buzz as she groaned.
"Right, we still have to send them back to their world. Let's get this over with" she commented before marching to them, "Come on! We've got to send you back before something insanely dangerous happens!"
"Oh? Like what?" Floyd asked intrigued with Jade also grinning.
"As if I am going to tell you. Now, transform back into your human form and let's get going" Elrena said in a frustrated manner at the twins.
Azul stepped up and cast a spell to dry himself off before agreeing, "Yes, Elrena is correct. We should depart with them to find a way back to our world. After all, I am losing money by the minute. I already do not want to lose more"
Floyd groaned before dipping back into the water with Jade standing at attention. Lauriam only grinned before summoning his keyblade. He gracefully spun on his feet to then unlock the keyhole by raising the blade upward. A gateway of purple and green opened from the keyhole as Lauriam took a bow and gestured for them to walk through. Floyd burst from the sea with his clothes wet and happily ran through it with his twin and Elrena following them.
"Why do I feel like there is only going to be more trouble ahead?" Azul wondered aloud with a frustrated sigh.
Lauriam only laughed before replying, "I have the same feeling as well. Isn't this going to be fun?"
Azul shook his head before walking through the gateway with Lauriam walking behind him with a pleasant grin. The gateway closed behind them and sent them to a world of light.
