🌹 Heartslabyul Arc Chapter 4🌹
It's their lunch break as Crystal, Aileen, Lucario and Greninja join the others. Grim is happier to have their lunch breaks as they can all eat together.
"Woo! Lunchtime at last!" The grey cat cheered happily. "Whoa!" He's drooling and smelling the delicious food. "They got some good-lookin' grub!" Grim didn't know which type of food he would like to have.
Yuu hums in amusement. "They have different kinds of food here." He commented and Sprigatito silently meowed in response.
"Look how fluffy those omelets are! Ooh, grilled chicken! And a bacon-and-egg tart!" Grim named different dishes.
Ace flinched in shock by his loud boisterous voice. "Shhh! Dude, inside voices! Where was this energy earlier today?" The grey cat is going to have this kind of energy when it's related to food.
"Yuu, grab me the grilled chicken! There's only one left!" Grim urged Yuu to pick up his food fast before it runs out. "And an omelet too. And that jelly-filled bread. Just fill your whole tray with 'em!"
Aileen gives him a pointed look. "You can't eat too much, Grim. You'll get a stomach ache later! Yuu don't give him too much food." They don't want to deal with Grim's moaning of his stomach pain because of having too much food.
Yuu nodded his head in agreement. "You can only have grilled chicken because we don't need to eat too much food."
"You need to have food limitation Grim~!" Ophelia pointed out while humming to think which food she was picking.
"You guys are so mean!" Grim whined and stepped back accidentally bumping someone.
A white-haired delinquent boy groaned in pain. "Hey! Watch where you're goin'!" He snapped Grim angrily. Gasping in shock to see his egg yolk is broken. "M-my carbonara! You broke the yolk!" He yelled in anger for ruining his food.
The maroon-haired delinquent boy gasps. "Whoa, that's messed up! Pokin' the egg is the best part! You better make this right, pal!" He lectured Grim ignoring his shaking in fear.
"I'm gonna need that grilled chicken of yours as compensation." He tried to reach Grim's food.
"Myah!? No way! Hands off the bird, chump! I need my protein because I am HANGRY!" Grim snapped back while protecting his food.
"Hey! That's no way to speak to an upperclassman! Catch me outside and I'll teach you some respect!" He didn't like Grim's tone and planned to beat him outside to teach him a lesson.
Ophelia's eyes hardened and masked her anger. "Gardevoir, please hold my tray for me." She handed the food tray to Gardevoir and the embrace Pokemon accepted it. The blonde girl despises bullies and she won't let them harm Grim.
Yuu steps in after passing the food tray to Lucario. "I appreciate it if you won't lay any hand on Grim." He spoke up in his unusually cold tone.
Ace and Deuce flinched seeing Yuu's cold look when he's usually a calm and friendly person. They shouldn't judge him quickly to assume he won't give you a cold shoulder. Sprigatito silently meows at him worriedly for his Trainer.
"Huh? That's your creature?" The white-haired delinquent boy couldn't hide his anger. "Teach your furball a lesson and I want his grilled chicken!"
"His name is Grim." Yuu retorted back calmly. "It was an accident and didn't look where was going when he gets over-excited. You should be grateful the food isn't spilled all over the floor but only the yolk. Your carbonara is still edible to eat and no need to swap it over."
"It wasn't an accident he purposely hurt me." He pretends to be in pain but no one believes his lies.
"He only bumped you by accident and your acting skills are worse." He couldn't help but say it bluntly. "Walk away and I remember there's a rule no fighting in this cafeteria with or without using magic."
"You're a punk if you think you can get away with it." The white-haired boy gritted his teeth in annoyance.
"You're no better." Yuu glares at them. "You're picking someone for a small little thing and using your authority as an upperclassman to act all mighty. Please leave us alone."
"Tch, acting hi—" He's throwing a punch towards Yuu but the black-haired boy grabs his fists and twists it. "Agh!"
The maroon-haired delinquent boy clicks his tongue. "You—" Ophelia kicks behind his knee hard and cries in agony.
"No need to use violence, gentlemen." Ophelia informed them with a fake smile.
Yuu pushed the delinquent away and crashed toward his friend. The white-haired delinquent boy feels embarrassed by getting beaten by two freshmen. "Whoa, didn't know you had that in you..." He whimpered slightly in pain while holding his wrists.
"Look, I'm gonna let you off the hook this time, but only 'cuz I don't want my pasta gettin' cold." The maroon-haired delinquent boy rambled as they fled away from them.
Yuu sighed heavily before he shook his head. "They never had manners at all." The black-haired boy commented before looking at Ophelia. "Thanks for your help, Ophelia."
"No problem." Ophelia smiles at him softly.
Ace flinched at Ophelia's attitude. "Remind me not to get happy-go-lucky mad?" He whispered at Aileen.
"Only if you tone down your teasing." Aileen retorted back.
Grim snorts. "Pfft! I knew you were all talking! You better hope I never see you again!" The grey cat smirked while crossing his paws.
Yuu knocks Grim's head lightly. "You need to stop looking for trouble, Grim." He scolded him.
"Can we get some lunch already?" Ace asked them sighing in defeat. "I'm about to collapse." He's still tired from the exercise.
Deuce sighs heavily. "I can't believe this." The dark navy blue-haired girl is worried that Ophelia might get hurt by the bullies but she proved him wrong. She can defend herself well despite always being a happy-go-lucky girl. "Textbook bullies at an academy that's supposed to be famous for producing exceptional mages..." He commented under his breath in a low tone.
"Hmm?" Ophelia hums and looks at him curiously. "Did you say something, Deuce?" The blonde girl stares at his bright cyan eyes.
"No." He shook his head before patting her soft blonde hair. "That was a powerful kick you did back there, Ophelia."
"I was holding back and the last thing I need is sending him to the infirmary and..." Ophelia gulps nervously and imagines Aileen lecturing her violence. "Lee-lee will give me a long lecture about the violence."
"I will let this one slide for now, Ophie." Aileen assured the blonde girl. "They deserved it."
"Greninja" The ninja Pokemon agreed with his Trainer.
"Why don't we look for a table to sit guys?" Crystal changed the subject as they looked found a place to sit and eat.
———————————————————
Grim licks his lips and drools to see the food right in front of him. "Aw, get over it already. It's time to chow like the wind!" He exclaimed happily before munching his food. "It's delicious! This omelet is as fluffy as a cloud, and practically burstin' with cheese!" He described his meal.
Gardevoir grabs a napkin and wipes his mouth. "Gardevoir, gar (You're a messy eater, Grim.)" The embrace Pokemon isn't surprised at how messy he is when it's eating time.
"Gardevoir sure acts like a mother to Grim." Yuu commented while giving Sprigatito some fruits for him to eat.
Ophelia chuckled and nodded her head. "You see Gardevoir acts like a mother or sister figure to everyone." She answered while sipping her soup. "It's no surprise she's acting like that to Grim or other creatures."
Crystal stirs her drink and hums. "I'm curious— what are the other dorms look like?" She asked Ace and Deuce curiously.
"I'm sure you're familiar with the statues of the Great Seven?" They heard a familiar voice and turned around to see Cater and an unknown dark green-haired male student. "Night Raven College has a dorm themed after each one."
"Bwah! You're that guy from this morning!" Ace couldn't help but scream in shock to see him again.
Grim glares at the light orange-haired boy. "You tricked us into paintin' those dumb roses!" He's still angry for using them to paint the roses in the morning.
"Tricked is such an ugly word. Do you think I wanted to spend MY morning painting roses?" Cater asked nervously. His body is still sore after Ophelia finds the real him and attacks using some sort of unique psychic magic. "It's dorm policy! I was just following orders."
Deuce shook his head. "And grinning like a fiend all the while."
"Now, now, Deucey-chan." The light orange-haired boy waves it off. "Outside of the dorm, I don't care what rules you follow. Here, I'm just a friendly mentor figure."
The dark navy blue-haired boy flinched at his new nickname while Ophelia giggled behind her mouth. "Please. Do NOT call me Deucey-chan." He didn't want to hear silly nicknames especially when the blonde girl heard it.
"Hehe, I'll try to call you that often, Deucey." Ophelia teased Deuce and she squealed as he pinched her cheeks. "I'm sowry!"
"Don't get me started on you, Ophelia." Deuce gives Ophelia a pointed look and releases her.
Ophelia pouts while massaging the cheek where he pinched. The dark green-haired laughs in amusement. "Ah haha. That's how Cater shows he cares." He assured Deuce.
"And who are you?" Ace asked him curiously wondering who he was with Cater.
"Ah, I should introduce myself. The name's Trey." Trey introduced himself. "Trey Clover. I'm a junior at Heartslabyul, like Cater here."
Trey is a tall, fair-skinned young man with short, dark green hair. He has very short, side-swept bangs and thicker-than-average eyebrows. His eyes are a warm hazel and he always wears black, full-rimmed glasses. On his left cheek is a small, black marking in the shape of a club (or clover) symbol.
Trey looks at Crystal. "And you must be Crystal LaRusso, the new prefect from the dump of a— ah, I mean, the rustic dorm." He looks at Aileen and controls his blush at her beauty. "You're Aileen Luna Sycamore, the vice housewarden."
"Yeah." Aileen nodded her head. "It's true our dorm used to be rustic but we can assure you the dorm is good as new. Thanks to our new friends." She explained with a smile. The girls and Yuu didn't blame Trey's description of the dorm because it used to be a haunted house before.
Trey hums and sees her expression and words are speaking from the truth. He heard rumors about the android lady and a blue creature residing in the Ramshackle dorm. The dark green-haired boy assumes the android lady must've used unique magic to bring it to life because their new residents are living with them.
The dark green-haired boy smiles. "I heard the whole story from Cater. Thanks for looking out for our boys yesterday." He thanked them for looking after them.
Crystal chuckles nervously. "They gave us a rocky impression but I'm glad we get along well." The black-haired girl wouldn't forget their first unforgettable interaction with Ace and Deuce.
Trey is sitting right next to Aileen while Cater sits between Ophelia and Gardevoir. Ace clicks his tongue in annoyance to see two upperclassmen joining them without asking their permission. "I don't recall inviting you to sit with us." The black-haired girl didn't hesitate to kick his shin under the table and he yelped in pain. "You..." He glares at the culprit while she pretends nothing happens.
Cater took his phone out and looked at them happily. "Hey, now, we're all from the same dorm, right? Let's get along. Here, gimme your digits." He leans closer to Ophelia's face.
Ophelia blinked her eyes at the sudden closeness and smiled nervously. Their Rotomphone isn't working in this world because it's different unless they scan an unknown Pokemon species. They barely know Cater and could tell he would be awestruck to see it.
"Haha... I don't have a phone, Cater-senpai." Ophelia lied.
Cater stares at Ophelia as if she's revealed a dark secret. "For real? I've read about luddites like you, but never imagined I'd meet one in the wild!" This earned a sweatdrop from the girls and Yuu but never voiced their opinions. "I know a place that sells the latest models cheap. How about you and I go on a phone-shopping date?" He suggested.
Yuu clears his throat and becomes an overprotective brother figure to Ophelia. "Too close and there will be no dates happening here." The black-haired boy moves Ophelia away from Cater.
Trey smiles nervously at Yuu's action and Ophelia's obliviousness. He wouldn't blame him and would do the same thing if someone asked his sister out on a date. "Cater. You're freaking out the freshmen. Maybe take it down a notch?" He suggested seeing Deuce's jealousy towards Cater.
"Haha! Sorry! I can get a little extra sometimes." Cater moves back while rubbing his neck. "What were we talking about... the dorms, yeah?" The light orange-haired boy changed the subject. "Ah, what fun to mentor new students! Go ahead, A-M-A."
"Before you get into the other dorms, I wouldn't mind learning a bit more about ours." Ace suggested and wanted to learn about their Heartslabyul dorm. "Like, what's the deal with all this Queen of Hearts rule number whatever junk?"
"I'm sure you're familiar with the legendary Queen of Hearts already?" Trey asked them and they nodded their heads. "She had to rule over a kingdom of weirdos, and did it by emphasizing order and making strict rules."
"Our dorm, Heartslabyul, is an homage to her." Cater pointed out. "By tradition, we wear armbands with the red and black of the Queen's dress. And we live by the rules she created."
"Pfft. Can you make me any more bored?" Grim scoffs and Lucario whacks his head. "Ow!" The aura Pokemon ignored him and focused on listening to Cater and Trey's explanation.
"Now, the degree to which we adhere to the rules depends on sitting the housewarden. Past wardens have been much more lax." Cater explained about their previous housewardens.
"Riddle though? He doesn't mess around." Trey pointed out. "You could say that we're honoring that tradition to the utmost extent possible."
Crystal noticed their slightest strange behavior about Riddle but remained silent. There's more of Riddle than meets the eye as she vowed to be open-minded about him. The girls and Yuu noticed their strange behavior as well as if they were hiding something from them.
"Bleah. Just my luck..." Ace groaned and just wished he could be in Yuu's dorm seeing they're a more chill and relaxing group.
"So what are the other dorms like, then?" Grim asked curiously.
"As Cater mentioned earlier, the dorms of this school are themed after the Great Seven." Trey pointed out while Yuu was slowly preparing taking notes from his explanation. "We have our dorm Heartslabyul, modeled after the strictness of the Queen of Hearts. To run down the rest of them for you, we have. Savanaclaw, is based on the persistent spirit of the King of Beasts. Octavinelle, based on the benevolent heart of the Sea Witch. Scarabia, based on the mindful personality of the Sorcerer of the Sands. Pomefiore, based on the tenacity of the Fairest Queen. Ignihyde, based on the diligence of the King of the Underworld. And finally... Diasomnia, based on the noble spirit of the Thorn Fairy."
The black-haired boy stops writing and sighs softly. "That's a lot to take in." It would take time for the others to get used to remembering them.
Grim nodded his head. "All these names are way too long! How's anyone supposed to remember 'em?" He couldn't help but ask in shock.
"Ah ha ha!" Cater burst out laughing in amusement. "Well, you get the idea. Want to or not, you'll learn them soon enough." He assured the grey cat.
"At orientation, the Dark Mirror picks a dorm for you based on the essence of your being." Trey pointed out while Crystal raised her right eyebrow.
"Tell that to the Dark Mirror when it told us no dorm appropriate for us." The black-haired girl commented bluntly.
"Maybe because you girls are special and hard to identify which dorms suits you." The dark green-haired boy suggested. "Well, as a result, each dorm ends up with a distinct sort of... flavor, we'll call it." He winks at them.
"Flavor...?" Aileen couldn't help but repeat the word while tilting her head. "You mean based on their appearance and personality?"
"That's right, Ai-chan!" Cater answered truthfully. "That is soo true. I totes see it."
"It makes sense." Crystal agreed with her two upperclassmen. Both girls did befriend one of their respectful classmates as they could tell which dorm they belonged with.
"Flavor... huh?" Deuce muttered under his breath.
Trey nodded his head. "For example, look at that guy." He pointed at one of Aileen and Crystal's classmates, Jack Howl.
Yuu couldn't help but blink his eyes in shock. "He has Lycanroc ears." He couldn't help but blurt out while Trey and Cater stared at him curiously.
Ophelia smiles nervously. "It's um... our hometown called a different term for wolves." She explained hoping it would accept her lying words. The black-haired boy gives the blonde girl a grateful look for making an excuse.
Trey hums and wouldn't blame him since some places have different terms. "That rough-and-tumble vibe he's got has Savanaclaw House written all over it." He commented.
"No doubt. That dorm is full of scrappy guys who are into, like, working out and fighting." Cater remarked. "How should I describe the vibe? Macho dudes? Gruff big brothers? Something along those lines. The black and gold armband is another giveaway."
"Huh." Grim hums. "All right, so what about that guy with the grey and purple cord wrapped around his arm?" He points at the boy who has short, wavy hair that's a cool light-gray color. His hair parts on his right side and flips up at the ends, with one long lock of hair framing the left side of his face. His eyes are the same color as his hair, but a bit darker. A small beauty mark rests below his lip on the left side of his face. He almost always wears rectangular, half-rim glasses with a gray frame.
Aileen is not a fool ever since they encounter him from day one. He wouldn't stop staring at them but mainly at their Pokemon. She received a report from their Pokemon about two male students trying to observe them but ended up getting scratches due to being close to their territories. The blue-haired girl would ask Erin later to find out about him. She could feel he wanted something from them.
"He's gotta be from Octavinelle House." It breaks Aileen's thoughts after hearing Trey's voice. "And the student sitting at the table in front of him has a red and gold armband— Scarabia color." He pointed at the two male students. One of them is wearing a turban-like headband wrapped around his head and the other one wears a red jacket underneath his school uniform.
The white-haired boy notices Aileen and waves at her wildly while she returns a wave. Cater noticed their gesture and decided to ask. "You know him?"
"No." Aileen answered while she shook her head. "I did save him back at the orientation. I never got a chance to know his name, that's all."
Cater simply hums. "Those dorms are for the smart students. They're always neck-and-neck in the academic rankings." The light orange-haired boy explained. "Ah, but the current housewarden of Scarabia doesn't seem to be all that great of a student..."
"And here Cater goes, off on some tangent..." Ace couldn't help but say it bluntly.
Trey chuckles in amusement. "Ha. You learn fast. Let's get back on topic. You see the flashy one with the purple and red armband? Those are Pomefiore colors." He points at different tables.
Crystal smiles and waves at Epel, one of her and Aileen's classmates, as she hopes he gets her attention. Epel smiles softly and waves back at the black-haired girl.
"Whoa! The girl with the potion books, I like her!" Grim exclaimed and couldn't stop staring at Epel.
The girls and Yuu don't blame Epel for having feminine features and assume he's a girl. Deuce flinched in shock to see another girl in this school. "What's she doing in all-boys school!?"
Ace stared at Deuce and Grim with a deadpan look. "You two are such morons. It's only Aileen and Ophelia are the only females here." The orange-haired boy corrected them.
"Aren't you forgetting about Crystal, Ace?" Yuu asked him as Crystal was also a girl.
"Crystal is the gorilla one here." Ace commented and earned a powerful punch on the head by Crystal. "OUCH!" He whimpered and felt a huge bump on his head.
Trey and Cater couldn't help but sweatdrop the way she punched Ace while pretending nothing happened. They remind themselves not to anger the black-haired girl or face her fists.
"You have no respect when it comes to Crystal, Ace." Yuu is completely disappointed in Ace as the orange-haired boy only groans in response.
Lucario silently snickered and Crystal gave him a look. "To be fair, he's the first person who gets on your nerves like that, Crystal." The aura Pokemon pointed out while Cater and Trey flinched hearing his voice through their heads.
"He would never learn a lesson no matter how much I punch him." Crystal commented bluntly.
Cater shook his head and noticed it was common for the canine-like creature to speak through their heads by communicating. "Speaking of girls, there's a portrait in the west hall who's a real beauty. Name's Rosaria. If you'd like to meet her, I'd be happy to introduce you. Maybe we can set something up?" He suggested to Ace.
Ace scoffs and crosses his arms. "A painting? Hard pass! I don't care how cute she is if she's two-dimensional!" He didn't like the idea of dating a painting lady.
"Come on, man. Who cares how many dimensions she's got? Anyway, they take vanity pretty seriously at Pomefoire. It's a dorm full of models." The light orange-haired boy explained. "Their housewarden has 5,000,000 followers on Magicam."
"Hey, now, they're not all just pretty faces." Trey denied it. "The students at Pomefiore are among the best at potions and casting curses." He explained more about Pomefiore's dorm.
"Haha true data." Cater nodded his head. "Next, we have Ignihyde... their armbands are blue and black, but I don't see any around here." He didn't see a single student who belonged to Ignihyde. "They tend not to be the most outgoing of students. Even I don't have a single friend from that dorm." He sighs heavily. "They're kind of the polar opposite of us sunny, fun-loving Heartslabyuls."
Ophelia didn't hesitate to flick Cater's ear as he wince at the sudden pain. "Don't be so rude about them. They may have social anxiety problems and we shouldn't be rude. We shouldn't judge their personality."
"Lia-chan I'm still sore for attacking me this morning." Cater whined.
Ophelia smiles happily. "You deserved it." Cater gulps nervously and reminds himself to be cautious around her.
"Ophelia is right." Trey nodded his head. "They just have a reputation for being quiet and serious, that's all. That dorm tends to attract magical-energy engineers and students who are good with tech."
"And that just leaves... Diahonyalara, was it?" Deuce mispronounced the last dorm of Diasomnia by accident.
Ace gives him a look for mispronouncing the word incorrectly. "You were off to a good start, and then you rammed right into the guardrails. It's Diasomnia." He corrected the dark navy blue-haired boy.
"I know that! I just misspoke, all right?" He defended himself.
"Diasomnia House is, hm... ah, look over there." Cater points to another table. "Those guys in the special seating area. You can tell from the neon green and black armbands. They're campus celebrities." Aileen recognized one of the Diasomnia students back at the orientation. "The vibe they give off makes it real hard for regular schmucks like us to even approach them. And their housewarden is that times a thousand." Cater is intimated by their housewarden and nervous whenever he shows up rarely.
"I never seen someone who has pointed ears before." Ophelia whispered under her breath and observed the black-with-magenta highlight-haired boy.
"Oh? There's a little kid in that group!" Ace didn't know the school accepts children to attend here.
"Ah, we do get some child prodigies here." Trey commented and understands Ace's confusion about them here. "But that guy there is no kid. He's a junior like us. Name's—"
"Lilia. Lilia Vanrouge." Lilia appeared out of nowhere and flew upside down in front of Ophelia.
"Bwah!" The boys, Grim, Sprigatito except the girls and their Pokemon scream in shock by his sudden appearance.
"H-he just teleported!?" Grim screams in shock.
Sprigatito hissed in shock and jumped to Yuu's arm. It spooked the grass cat Pokemon and wanted comfort from his Trainer. The black-haired boy immediately strokes his head to calm him.
Lilia turns around to face them. "I understand my apparent age interests you. As this bespectacled fellow accurately noted..." He smiles in amusement. "Despite my fresh-faced, boyish good looks, it would be inaccurate to call a child."
Yuu didn't know what was behind his childish look appearance, his voice was deep. When he stares at his deep red eyes, Yuu can see he's wise and old behind the young feature.
"Fresh-faced, he says..." Trey couldn't help but muttered under his breath.
"You need not to gawk at us from afar. You may feel free to speak with us directly." Lilia suggested but the others could tell the other two said otherwise based on their expressions. "We are schoolmates, are we not? All of us at Diasomnia House welcome you without reservation." He smiles politely.
"And yet, those guys over there aren't exactly rolling out the red carpet in terms of approachability..." Deuce commented after watching their expressions.
"Trey-senpai and Cater-senpai are just explaining about the seven dorms. We didn't mean to offend you or anything at all, Lilia-senpai." Crystal apologizes on behalf of them.
Lilia smiles and sees the resemblance between his dear friend and Crystal. "You're not offending anyone at all, LaRusso-san." He heard rumors about the girls and their strange creatures.
Crystal shook her head. "Please, call me Crystal. I'm not used to calling my last name." She smiles sheepishly.
He chuckles in amusement. "Of course, Crystal-san. You must be Aileen Luna Sycamore." He stared at the blue-haired girl and she nodded her head with a polite smile. "Yuu Enma and Ophelia Fay Ambrosius." His eyes settle to stare at her bright yellow eyes.
"You got it right, Lilia-senpai." Ophelia nodded her head.
"Forgive me for appearing above you during your meal. I do hope we can speak again." His stares linger at Ophelia more before he joins back with the other two.
"Their table has got to be over twenty yards away from ours. And they overheard our conversation?" Ace whispered in Trey's ear. "That's WAY creepy!" It scared the orange-haired boy to see him appear.
"Well... Diasomnia House does have a bit of a reputation for having lots of special students." Trey pointed out while smiling nervously. "Some of them are extremely talented at magic. Their housewarden, Malleus Draconia, is considered to be one of the five best mages in the world."
"Malleus is reeeal bad news. Though I suppose the same could be said of our dear housewarden." Cater pointed out.
"No kidding!" Ace huffs loudly. "He collared me for eating one slice of tart! All his rule obsession is outta control!" He complained as Crystal saw a familiar red-haired boy approach them silently and heard Ace's ramble.
"My rule obsession is outta control, is it?" Riddle asked coldly.
"You bet it is." The orange-haired boy nodded his head. "Riddle's just a petty tyrant who leans into the whole rules shtick as a pretext to keep everyone under his puny thumb!"
"Ace, that's enough and behind you." Lucario warned him.
Ace turns around and screams in shock to see his housewarden. "Bwah!? Housewarden!"
Riddle isn't happy to hear insults coming from Ace's mouth.
