T W E N T Y - T W O
Asher's P.O.V.
I wake up to my beautiful mate, her head resting on my chest and her arm wrapped around my waist as I wrap mine around hers. I kiss the top of her head and quietly pull away, gently placing her head on the pillow.
I get dressed and walk downstairs, getting all the business done that needs to be done. It's pretty early in the morning so Katie should be asleep for a while. I walk into my office, calling Alpha Troy of Full Moon pack. He's a very good friend of mine; I'm closest to him than any other of the alphas.
"Hello?" Troy's voice answers.
"Troy, its Asher." I say.
"Asher, what can I do for you?" He asks.
"Well I'm informing you I was interested in moving the attack date closer." I state.
"How much closer?" He asks.
"Within the next two weeks."
I hear him sigh. "Are you sure that's a good idea, Asher?"
"Yes, I can't hold my wolf back much longer. Especially because he was partly to blame for my mate."
"I'm sorry about Katie."
"Actually, she woke up yesterday."
"I'm very glad to hear that. My pack and I will stand with you if you decide to attack early."
"Thank you. I will inform the others."
We both hung up.
I walk back to our room to see if Katie is still sleeping, luckily she is. I exit the room once more and find Colton already waiting my office. "Hey, I need to talk to you." I say to him.
"Yeah, me too." He replies.
"I want to attack next week." I say bluntly.
Colton's eyes widen in surprise. "Well, if you think it's best..."
"I do, but Katie can't know." I tell him seriously.
I hate lying to her, but I'm doing what I think is best. Even if that means going behind her back and doing this. I know Katie wants to help, but it would make me feel better if I did this. It also makes me feel better that she would be at home, safe.
"She isn't going to like that." He states.
No shit.
"Yeah, I know. That's why she can't know. You have to block her out of your mind link, the last thing I need is her finding out from you."
Katie's P.O.V.
I woke up and see that Asher isn't in bed. I shrug it off and grab the phone laying on the bedside table and dial Heather's number. The last time I remember talking to her was a few months back, when she helped me escape my old pack. "Hello?" Heather answered.
"Hi, it's Katie." I say.
"Katie! Oh my gosh, thank God you're awake! Are you alright?" She asks, though she's whispering and it's really hard to hear her.
"Yes, I'm fine. Though, I don't remember visiting Midnight Risers." I tell her.
"You don't remember anything?" She questions, still whispering.
"Could you speak up a little bit? I really can't hear you." I say to her.
"I can't, someone might hear me."
"Why does it matter?" I ask.
She sighs. "Since you've left, your dad is crazier than usual. He's kills pack members at least three times a day if they don't train hard enough. Also, he said if anyone tries to communicate with anyone other than our pack, he'll kill them." My father has lost his damn mind.
"Oh my gosh... Why?!"
"Because he's planning on attacking your pack." She informs me.
"I already know that."
"How is Colton?" She asks with desperation in her tone.
'Being annoying' I think in my head. "He seems sad. I can imagine why, you've been apart for a few months now from what I've heard."
I hear her sob. "Yeah, it's terrible."
"You'll be together soon enough, Asher will defeat my dad. I promise."
"I hope so... I have to go. Someone is coming." Before I could say bye, she hung up.
Things have sure gone to hell since I've been... Gone? Yeah, gone.
I walk to the kitchen but pass Asher's office. I stop at the doorway, listening to what him and Colton are talking about. They can't see me because the door is almost shut. "I want to attack next week." Asher says. Was he planning on telling me this?!
. "Well, if you think it's best..." Colton says to Asher. No, it isn't for the best!
"I do, but Katie can't know." Asher says. So he wasn't going to tell me...
"She isn't going to like that." Colton states. Finally some common sense and it's from Colton! Who knew the day would come...
"Yeah, I know. That's why she can't know. You have to block her out of your mind link, the last thing I need is her finding out from you." Oh Asher, if he only knew.
I walked past their door quietly and proceeded to the kitchen to get something to eat.
I'm not going to let Asher or anyone else know I know. I'll act like everything is fine and when they leave, I'll follow them. How can he not tell me something like this? He could have at least told me and then said I couldn't come. I mean, I wouldn't have listened but still...
I make breakfast and put it on the table, knowing the pack will smell it and come eat it.
5, 4,3,2,1.
"What smells amazing?" John asks as he walks in the kitchen.
I called it!
A few other of the pack members walked in and started eating, except for Asher and Colton. I was wondering where they were so I went down the hall again to go back to the office. Knocking lightly, I opened the door and saw them still sitting at the desk. "I made breakfast." I said.
Asher frowned. "You shouldn't be working so hard." He scolded.
I rolled my eyes. "I made pancakes, you can hardly qualify that as hard work."
He got up from his eat and walked toward me, then placed a soft kiss on my lips. "You just got out of a coma, you should be resting." Does he realize how silly that sounds?
"We've talked about this, I'm fine." I tell him for what seems like the 100th time.
He took my hand and we walked back in the kitchen with Colton following behind. They both sat at the table while I did some of the dishes. I could feel Asher's strong gaze on me as I moved throughout the kitchen. "Ya know, it's rude to stare." I said to Asher playfully.
He just shrugged. "I can't help it when my mate is so beautiful." He said then took a bite of the pancake.
I blushed, which is very rare. "Flattery gets you nowhere." Lies, it gets him everywhere.
After breakfast, Asher had to go and do some 'alpha duties', which I know he is just planning the attack for next week. While he's doing that, he left Colton to keep me company. In other words, he is babysitting.
"Can you please give me the remote?" I asked. We are watching some lame TV show about me medieval times, I think it's called The Game of Thrones.
He groaned and brought his pointer finger to his lips. "Shh, I'm trying to watch this."
I rolled my eyes. "It's stupid."
Colton presses pause on the remote and looks at me with an annoyed expression. "Can you just go with the flow?"
I laugh. "Go with the flow? Do you realize that that sounds totally ridiculous coming out of your mouth."
He shrugs. "Can I watch my show in peace?"
"Only if you tell me one thing."
"What?"
"Why is your mind link blocked from me?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
He freezes up and shifts uncomfortably. "On second thought, you can watch TV. I have to... Piss." He quickly stands up and walks out of the room. He's such a terrible liar.
I roll my eyes and stand up and go outside. I haven't shifted into my wolf in a long time so I decided to do so. I took my clothes off behind a tree and shift into my wolf. It felt good running, I felt free.
I ran around for what felt for hours, it was dark and I realized i had ran longer than I thought.
'Where are you?!' Asher demanded through our mind link. He's beyond pissed...
'I went for a run, I didn't realize that I was gone for so long.' I defended while running back towards the pack house.
'It's too dangerous for you to be out alone, Katie! Why wasn't Colton with you?!" He scolded. I feel like a child being reprimanded.
'Don't talk to me like that! I'm your mate, your equal. Not someone you can just order around. I felt like running so I ran.' I snapped.
'Come. Back. Now.' He did not just use his alpha voice on me...
I turned my mind block on and ran faster.
By the time I got home, it was completely dark out. Asher and Colton were both outside waiting for me. I hid behind the tree and got dressed. When I walked back towards them, Asher had a look that could kill. He stormed toward me, causing me to stop walking. "What the hell were you thinking?!" He shouted at me, causing me to flinch. "Do you know how worried I was?! You can't just leave!" I've never seen him this angry, ever.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know it was that big of a deal." I said in a quiet voice.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to calm down. "I thought..." He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a tight embrace. "I can't lose you again." He mumbled into the crook of my neck.
I wrapped my arms around his waist. "I should have told someone, I'm sorry."
He kissed the side of my head. "I'm sorry for yelling at you, baby."
I looked up at him. "It's ok, just don't ever use your alpha voice on me again or I'll kick your ass." I said jokingly, but I'm serious. I'll kick his ass next time.
He laughed. "Alright."
We released each other from the embrace and saw Colton awkwardly standing there with... Tears in his eyes? "Uh, why are you crying?" I ask him.
He blushes. "That was so beautiful."
I laugh and so does Asher. "You're so gay..." Asher says.
Colton scoffs. "I am not! I'm just an emotional dude." He defends.
I pat his shoulder. "So I'm guessing Heather is going to be wearing the pants in the relationship?" I joke.
He smirks. "We'll both be wearing the pants, if you get what I'm saying."
I gag. "Shut up."
