Chapter 2: Hey Munnie

Third Person

He could hear the voices. They whispered in his head. He didn't remember how he got to the control room, his mind was blank. He had memories from his past, from being a child, being ripped away from his mother and older brother. He had memories of growing up in W.I.C.K.E.D and he had memories of the scorch and the Flair. He vaguely remembered showing up in Homestead, he had to warn them...he had to tell all of them, they were in danger, especially Charlie. He had to keep her safe from Them. It was foggy, pieces drifted in and out of focus.

But how he got from the Homestead to the control room, was a blank. The voices were whispering, he tried to ignore them, but they got worse; they got louder.

"NO!"

He could see Charlie in front of him, she was dirty, bloody and looked exhausted, she had tears running down her face. What happened? Thomas showed up beside her, he was always beside her. On the other side was... something, a shadow. It was huge with bloodied claws and wild dark demon eyes, its face was twisted in a grotesque way; it was going to hurt them, they couldn't leave! He had to save them...especial Charlie. The shadow seemed to grow, feeding off Charlie's fear and tears, he had to end it! He raised the gun that he had found.

The monster was now whispering in her ear, the shadow smiled cruelly at Gally, he felt his fear increase. The wild voices in his head were screaming with wild glee. The Shadow loomed over Charlie, it was going to try and take her away, she was reaching for him. The shadow was going to rip her apart, devour her, feed off of her...he couldn't let that happen! He needed to save her, keep her safe.

The voices were screaming louder, some where wild, some where cackling, some with wild mania, all noise was blocked. He pulled the trigger. He registered some chaos in front of him. And then pain. He registered the pain, it cut through the voices in inside his head, they went silent, the shadow monster was gone. Charlie...he dropped to his knees, all he could focus on now was the pain that ripped through his body. Falling to the floor he saw Charlie's beautiful crystal blue eyes. They looked sad and broken, they were full of pain.

He heard screaming. Thomas was screaming, screaming for Charlie to wake up, but Gally's eyes had stopped working, everything was black, his hearing was fuzzy. Pain consumed him, it was cutting into his breathing. He finally let the pain take over and his body took mercy on him, and swallowed him into the darkness of nothing. The last thing he heard was Charlies name being screamed with so much pain it made his heart shatter into pieces.

He felt the gentle sway of movement. His entire body screamed in pain. He wished he would just pass back out. There was a wild jiggle in the movement, causing more pain to shoot through him. He let a groan out.

"ZEE! He's waken up! HURRY THE HELL UP!" Someone screamed beside. Gally felt a hand on his shoulder, "Hold on Munnie! We're almost there!"

"Shut it! I'm going as fast as this damn truck will go!" A deep voice snapped back.

Gally bagged his body to take him away. It hurt so much, the sharp burning pain, it ripped through him. His body finally listened and took him away.

His mind woke up. It was the jolting, the sudden movement that made him wake up. He moaned.

"Dammit! Come on guys!" A voice yelled, "He's already in pain, and dying! Lets hurry, but don't kill him!"

"And why are we bringing a half dead kid into the camp?"

"Found him in a W.I.C.K.E.D facility on our way back. He was still alive."

"But that doesn't explain WHY, Soph!"

"He's a Munnie, Sarg."

There was silence.

"Fine. Patch him up!"

Gally could sense the wild rush of people all of a sudden. He could feel hands all over him, things being poked into his arm, and then something cool flowed into his veins, taking him away from the pain. He sighed.

Gally woke up again, this time he didn't feel so bad. But breathing was difficult, and moving was not going to happen. He let out a low groan of pain.

"Ahhh. The Munnie lives!" A loud voice chuckled beside him.

Gally groaned again. "Wish I was.." His voice was horse.

He finally peeling his eyelids open. Having to blink a few times, he finally saw where he was. He was inside some kind of building. It was kind of grungy and dark, but it looked clean. He was laying on a bed, with a few wires and tubes inserted into his arm.

"The shuck?" He muttered, furrowing his brow.

"That's a weird word, munnie." The voice chuckled.

Gally turned his head, sitting on a chair beside his bed was a girl with bleached blond hair, she was leaning back in the chair, her booted feet crossed and propped up on the edge of his bed. She looked quit at ease.

"Same with the word munnie." Gally retorted. He looked away and back around the room.

"Ha. Munnie's got jokes." She grinned when Gally looked back at her.

"Why do you keep calling me that? Where are we and what happened?" He asked. "Shucken hell, I'm turning into Thomas!" He muttered.

"Calling you what? Munnie? Cuz your immune, and I don't know your name...Munnie." She stressed the weird name again. She crossed her arms and yawned. "As for where we are, your at one of the buildings The Resistance owns. And as for what happened Munnie," She took her feet off the bed and leaned forward, her elbows in her knees, "We just saved your ass."

Gally frowned. This was a lot to take in. Immune to what? Resitance? But as of what happened.. he remembered. He remembered all of it...the voices, the shadow, the gun, Charlie lunging forward and then dropping as bright red blood blossomed from her abdomen, Thomas screaming for her.

He clamped his eyes and jaw tight. His throat felt tight, there was a hard pressure on his chest, he felt his heart actually being ripped out of his chest.  Pain ripped through him, he wasn't sure if it was the huge wound in his chest, or the emotional pain he felt.

He shot Charlie. He was the one who killed her. He didn't mean to. He didn't want to kill anyone! He just wanted them safe! He couldn't breath now. The hot burning tears formed behind his eyelids. Wincing, he laid his arm over his face, trying to hid the tears.

"Hey...Munnie...you okay?" The girl asked, her voice had taken on a softer tone.

Off course he wasn't okay! He was the one to pull the trigger, he was the one to kill the only person who could see past his flaws and pain, the only person who loved him despite his issues. He killed the girl he loved with everything he had. He wished he could change places. Why did she have to die? His pulled his arm away and eyes flew open, if he was still alive with a spear impaled through him...

"Was there a girl there? She would have had long hair, honey blond? She would have been bleeding on the ground...?" He asked the girl beside him, a small spark of hope. If they found him, maybe Charlie was here somewhere!

The girl frowned. That didn't look good. She shook her head.

"Np. Just you. Lotta blood all over the floor. But no, there was no girl. Why?" She asked.

The small spark of hope he had was snuffed out. He felt like his whole world came crashing down around him. The heaviness was back, the pain in his chest, that had nothing to do with the spear wound, was back in full force. He didn't care right now, he let the tears slid down. He would have shoved them all down, hiding his emotions and feelings behind anger, but he felt broken. Something inside him broke and he didn't think it would ever be fixed.

Hey lay on some kind of hospital bed in some kind of building with some random girl and he cried. He let the hot tears slid down his face. He wasn't sure how long he let the emotions all pour out. He felt the girls hand on his arm.

"Man, Munnie..." she trailed off.

"Gally."

"Huh?" she sat up straighter.

"My name. It's Gally" He sniffed, rubbing the last of his tears away with the palms of his hands. It was like being the Greenie out of the box again. Greenie, Munnie...being the new kid.

"Huh. And I thought Munnie was a pretty good name for ya." She gave him a half smile. She held out a hand, "Names Sophie."

He shook her hand, but winced with the movement.

"Your going to make it worse with the extra movement!" A deep voice said from the door.

Gally looked over, standing in the door was a tall guy with long dark hair, thick dark eyebrows with a scar on one side. He stood with his hands in his pockets.  Gally nodded. He hated being in this position, laying on his back at the mercy of others. He felt weak and vulnerable.

"Come on in Zee, stop being so damn broody. Munnie has jokes. And.." She trailed off, glancing at Gally, her face softened slightly. Gally knew she was going to say something about his emotional breakdown.

"Just get your ass in here. Come meet the Munnie, who insists we call him Gally." She rolled her eyes.

Gally was grateful she didn't say anything. The dark brooding guy slid into the room, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. His dark eyes lingering on Gally. He wasn't much of a talker.

"All right, see that's better!" She rolled her eyes at the guy behind her. She turned back to Gally, leaning back and propping her feet up on the bed again. " Don't mind Zayn. He likes to be broody and dark and mysterious. He's a good guy. Good driver and an okay shot."

The guy rolled his eyes. "Better than you."

"Pfft. Please." she waved a hand dismissively, "That was ONE time."

There must be some relationship between these two, they bickered like siblings. Gally just watched, still very confused and still feeling the emotional tempest inside him.

"I have questions." Gally said.

"Shoot." Sophie said, "We ain't got nothing to hide."

"You said The Resistance...what's that?"

"Well. We aren't an army or anything, but we hate W.I.C.K.E.D,  and their greedy power hungry ways. So we...fight, we resist. They steal kids and use them, all they do it take what they want and leave the rest of us to fend for ourselves. Instead of trying to find a damn cure we know doesn't exist, they could help the people!"

"You...you know about W.I.C.K.E.D?" Gally asked, shocked.

"Uhh, yeah, everyone does. Where have you been living the last like twenty years?" Sophie asked like Gally just asked the most outlandish question.

"Uhh...you wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"Try us." Sophie challanged.

"I lived in a giant maze. A Glade surrounded by hundred feet stone walls, and that was surrounded by a maze." He said flatly.

There was stunned silence.

"You were part of the Maze Trials!" Zayn rumbled, his eyes wide.

Gally tried to shrug, but winced, gingerly placing a hand over his wrapped chest. It was only now he realized his shirt was gone and he just had the bandages wrapped around his chest, and a thin sheet covering him.

"That't would explain why he was in that W.I.C.K.E.D facility." Sophie glanced over her shoulder, "And why he's a Munnie."

"Please explain why you keep calling me a munnie. Immune to what?"

"The Flair. Dude, seriously you don't anything? What's hey do, erase your memories?"  She joked.

But when Gally kept a straight face without blinking, she gasped.

"No...wait..Seriously?"

"Yeah. And inside that Maze were monsters that could poison you...and after a few days of excruciating pain you could get snips and whisps of memories. Most kids went crazy and killed themselves."

"Well shit."

Gally chuckled quietly, to himself, despite the seriousness of the conversation, he just imagined Newt lifting his head and scolding her for swearing.

"Huh. So I guess we start at ground zero with ya, Munnie....Gally."

The two spent the rest of the afternoon explaining the precarious situation the world was in, how their group, The Resistance, tried to help the common people, the sick. Zyan and Sophie were both not immune and were living in a villiag in the outer part of the scorch, they had to flee their village when W.I.C.K.E.D showed up, killing most of the people, taking the younger kids. They were as close as siblings, growing up together with The Resistance.

"We'll let you rest now, that's a lot to take in. And you still gotta heal!" Sophie said, standing up and stretched. Zayn nodded his head and silently left the room. Closing the door behind him, leaving Gally's mind buzzed with all the information he had learned. Shuck, this world was jacked up. He closed his exhausted eyes, slowly falling asleep. He wished Charlie was here beside him, his heart ached. The Resistance didn't seem that bad, maybe he would stay after he was healed, what else was there to do? He was thankful The Resistance found him. It could be worse.

He could have been picked up by W.I.C.K.E.D
