Chapter 2
Chapter II: Unexpected
Katherine's POV
I'm currently sitting in one of the circular tables in the cafeteria, eating a cheese burger as my lunch. I'm accompanied by my reddish brown dyed hair best friend who sat across me from the table, Loraine. Loraine Vargas
She, I wouldn't deny, quite lack of height because she's just below my shoulder, even if were at the same age. However, despite lacking in height, her appearance speaks the difference. With a heart-shaped face, she has round emerald green eyes; and a small yet pointed nose which made her look like a doll. Her flawless pale skin made her rosy cheeks and puckered small lips pop out
We've been friends ever since I transferred to this school, and she was bubbly as ever when we first met. I mean, I nearly had cardiac arrest when she suddenly popped out of nowhere, just to say hi
And during the first few days after I got transferred, I barely spoke to anyone. I was programmed in a only-speak-when-spoken-too kind of thing in the first few weeks. But I happen to loosen up to my surroundings when I became friends with Lori; and here I am, studying in the same school with her for almost 4 years
"Hey, Kathy?" Lori spoke, slicing through my train of thoughts, calling me by my name
I averted my gaze from my lunch to her while muching on the bite I took on my food. I raised an eyebrow as a reply, due to my mouth being too occupied to speak
"Do you know where Karen is?" She asked
I rolled my eyes, and swallowed my food before replying, "Lori, we've been here ever since second period ended, and neither one of us stood up from this table when we came. So, how would I know?"
Well, a reply like that coming from a student who barely spoke in the past years wasn't something you can imagine, but I often speak like this. I sometimes get carried away, whenever my friends or someone asks me a question even if the answer is already obvious. But for almost the past 4 years of me speaking, in a way that you can almost get brainwashed, is something my friends that got used to
Lori threw a crumpled tissue at me, which glided softly down my cheek, as she rolled her eyes in amusement
"Don't talk like that. You sometimes confuse my brain with the way you talk" She said, chuckling
Well, not most of the time that my friends like it when I talk like that
"You sound like you're a detective, or an agent, who's investigating and could make their suspects go into a nervous breakdown just with the way you speak" She added and munched her fries
I tensed up from the word she mentioned; agent. I obviously felt uneasy from the word for a brief moment, knowing that my life has some involvements in agents. But before she could even notice my uneasiness, I chuckled and leaned closer
"What if I am an agent?" I asked in a taunting way as I stared at her with a dark look, smirking
In my situation, the best way to not make it obvious that something made you feel uneasy, is to joke around or play along with the topic. Because in human logic, people think that you felt uneasy whenever you stay quite for far too long when they're expecting an answer from you
Soon did Lori and I were bursting into a laughing fit when she nearly choked on her food, luckily she didn't; but the pieces of the fries that she was munching, flew all over her tray when she heard my reply. Our conversation continued on and rode down into random topics
"Seriously though! Where the heck is--" Lori's groan got suddenly cut off, when a familiar squeal spanned to our ears
"Lori! Kathy!" A voice of a female hollered, calling the two of us from the distance as squeals escaped her lips
We turned our heads to the direction of the voice, only seeing a dark brown haired female; who's rushing down the cafeteria with her lips comprised into a boxy grin. She's obviously excited about something on who knows what
Though I have to say, she's quite attractive, especially with her dreamy soft grey eyes which popped out with her long lashes. Her lips were thin but has a tint of rose, that you could mistake her from wearing lipstick. And her figure is in a well-cared shape, she also has slender legs but it didn't helped her with height, knowing that she's just below my cheek. Yes, I'm technically the tallest one in the three of us
"Karen?" Lori questioned with a raised brow, holding a piece of her fries; her gaze locked onto the rushing figure of Karen
"It's about time for her to show up," I said, looking at my wristwatch, "I thought she got into detention" I chuckled and sipped on my Coca-Cola beverage
Lori wasn't alone when we first met; she's with someone accompanying her, and their name was Karen Anderson. Karen, wasn't one to speak a lot too, but she tend to have the attitude of speaking to people with ease (only to people whom she recognizes, though). And she influenced me with that attitude, but as time past, I became more sociable and talkative than her
Karen then came to our table panting, as she propped her hands on the table. Lori and I waited to regain her breath, and once she did, she squealed loudly. Again.
"Guys! I need to tell you something!" She yelled abruptly in excitement, and I nearly choked on my drink in surprise
Lori was the one to reply, "What? That you dyed your hair as the same as Taehyung's?" She asked, seeming to already expect what Karen wanted to say
If you were to ask on what Karen and Lori has in similar? They're both insanely in love with the famous kpop boyband that's known by the name Bangtan Sonyeondan; BTS, in short. And thanks to my friends, because they often talk about the group, I already know so much about them. Not that I'm complaining, it's just annoying sometimes. Ugh, BTS...
Karen blinked as Lori's words processes in her mind, before grinning and flipping her hair, "I did dye my hair, but that's not it!" She yelled
With those words from Karen, I could already sense another one of Lori's teasing comments coming up. My red headed friend contorted an expression of shock and cupped the sides of her face with both of her hands
"Jungkook wants to marry me?!" She gasped
Seriously, Lori?
Karen gave her a you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me look, "Sorry Lori, but that's also not it" She teasingly said with a pout
Lori huffed and leaned to her seat with her arms crossed, causing me to laughed on how naive she could be. Her attitude can sometimes be as the same level of her height; childish
Still chuckling, I turned my gaze back to Karen, "Just spill the beans, Karen" I suggested, "So Lori here could stop fantasizing about Jungkook" I bluntly added, side glancing at Lori
Lori gave me a smack on the shoulder. I just laughed at her before drinking my beverage, snickering
"It's not like fantasies can come true..." I murmured
"What did you say?!"
"Nothing! I said, what were you saying, Karen?" I said, almost immediately as my eyes darted back to Karen
I could literally hear Lori's eyes roll behind me, making Karen and I laugh
"Okay, as I was saying," Karen began, her lips comprising back into a smile, "I have something to show for the two of you!"
Lori and I looked at her confused, but we nearly jumped out of our seats when Karen abruptly slammed a hand on the table with a loud bang. My gaze immediately flicked down to her hand, and what I saw almost made my eye leave their sockets
"I bought airplane tickets for the three of us! And their plane tickets to South Korea!"
Remember when I said that "fantasies can't come true"?
I may have to retract that...
~~~☆~~~
I stared off into space while I sat on my swivel chair in my room, accompanied by the magic of music playing on my ears through my earphones as I think about our trip to Korea. Everything just seems so unreal
Well, it can be possible if I finished my studies to be a successful surgeon so I can save up money for a trip to Korea, but in the way of easily going to Korea with a surprise from your friend was really shocking. Who knows on what sacrifices Karen made to save money
Thanks Karen
I huffed out a breath, mentally going back to the seaside of reality from my sea of thoughts; however, dark clouds gathered and showered me with it's anxious raindrops that made me realize on how dangerous traveling could be. In my case, I should be always be cautious in my surroundings, because anything could happen during our trip
I am an agent after all, in the past atleast...
I stared at my bulky grey netbook on top of my desk in front of me, showing a somewhat dark green map, with a colour of lime green for the other details. It's somewhat similar to a GPS map. I watched two separate blinking bubble slowly move in each of their locations; one was located inside a mall, Lori, while the other was on the move towards their home, Karen
Yes, I gave each of my friends a GPS tracker, which are embedded in from the accessories I gave each of them (which they barely take off). And it may sound that I'm a stalker, but trust me, I'm doing this for their safety
Just then, the sudden sound of my ringtone unanticipatedly blasted in my ears through my earphones, which legitimately sliced through my worried thoughts. Damn, that's loud. I looked down on my phone and hurriedly lowered down the volume, to reduce the chance of my ears to bleed, and only to see it's an incoming group call from my friends
I smiled, as if I wasn't worried just a moment ago, while closing my netbook down and plucked out my earphones from my phone and ears before answering the call. But as soon as I placed my phone on my ear--
"ANNYEONG!~ (HI!~)" My friends simultaneously and loudly greeted in Korean
And there goes my ear, I thought
Placing my phone back to my ear which I retracted a few inches away, I deeply sighed before replying with a chuckle, "Sorry, but I ain't Korean"
"Come on, Kathy" I heard Karen sarcastically said that I could literally hear her eyes rolling
"Don't act like you don't know how to speak Korean" She added, which is true anyway
Then Lori's giggle chimed in, "Ne~ (Yes~) Just because we learned Korean because of BTS, doesn't mean you have to act like you don't know to speak their language, Kathy-unnie" She said, sounding like a triumphant child since all that she said was also true, but the last part made me cringe
"Ya! (Hey!) Unnie anieyo! (I'm not your unnie!)" I snapped in Korean, "It's so cringy when you use it on me, knowing the fact that all of us are technically at the same age" I added, but realized I just took their bait
My friends laughed, but I just rolled my eyes from their amusement towards me
"Anyways, why did you guys call again?" I asked, changing the subject
"Oh yeah! It's about our flight to Korea!" Lori cheerfully informed
I raised a brow, confused at her words but shrugged it off, "Now that you guys mentioned it, when will our flight be held?" I asked
After a minute when they replied, my dark blue eyes grew in shock nearly jumped out of their sockets from their response
"WHAT?!" Dragging the letter a, I shouted in shock, "You guys booked our flight TONIGHT?!"
"Ya! That hurts you know?!" Lori complained from my random outburst
"Kathy, you almost made our eardrums bleed on how loud your voice was" Karen side comments, somewhat agreeing to Lori's complaint
I ignored them and leaned back onto my chair, placing a hand to my temple as I contemplate the whole sudden booking of our flight. Then I remembered something, which leads me to ask...
"How long did you say that will we be staying there?" I asked, frustration evident in my voice
I waited for their reply, and when they did, their answer instantly made me stomp myself up
"What?! One month and a half?!" I shouted, "And our flight is tonight at nine?!"
What the heck guys
And with that, I ended the call without giving them a chance to reply or even make a sound, and grabbed the things I need. Clothes, shoes, toiletries, along with my bulky netbook, and other things that I need; I stuffed them in my large rolling bag, and some in my string bag, as neatly as I can while I try to hurry
It's 7:30 in the evening, and our flight is later at 9. Damn it guys
After packing up, I took a quick and brisk shower and threw on some comfortable yet presentable clothes. I tied my shoelaces, grabbed my gloves, my helmet, and the keys for my personal vehicle. Then checked around my place, checking if there's anything that could cause horrible events while I'm gone
After scanning my house and made sure everything was secure, I grabbed my phone, my huge rolling bag, slip on my string bag, and the grabbed keys for my house. I walked out and closed the door, locking it
Namjoon's POV
It's around 7:40 in the evening. Me and the Bangtan, along with some of our crews and staff, are making our way to the airport in our minibus. I'm currently in one of the seats near the window, silently looking out the glass pane which was quite entertaining to me for my sleepy state. I could hear the laughing and talking of the others inside the bus, but I was too sleepy to interact with them
I leaned my head to the black tinted window, watching the buildings, cars, lampposts, even bystanders, wheeze past us. And I could feel my eyelids desperately wants to drift off to sleep, but before they could even get the best of me, I shook my head as if it would help. Which it did, in a way, but it only resulted for me to yawn
"Joon-hyung?" A small voice of a male spoke, snapping me out my sleepy thoughts
I blinked back the tears that slightly brimmed my eyes, a result after a satisfying yawn, and looked up from the seat in front of me. My gaze landed on one of our baby-faced maknaes, the one with a blonde undercut hair, Jimin. Park Jimin. The little dude was peering over his seat, his arms crossed over the headrest of his seat
"What is it, Jimin?" I asked, assuming he called me for a reason, "Is there something you want?"
I hovered my hand over my mouth, yawning once again while Jimin swept his gaze around the place for who knows what reason. After he did a quick scan, he averted his gaze back at me, eyeing me with his attractive and doll-looking-eyes (as what our fans would say)
"Joon-hyung, I don't really need anything" He said with his small voice, pointing to himself, "Because I'm perfectly fine"
Then why did he call me?, I thought
"But you, you're the one who needs something," He said, correcting my words as he pointed finger at me
I rose a brow at his words, "Me?" I asked innocently, pointing to myself while raising my head up from leaning on the window
He deadpanned, "Yes, hyung. You looked like you haven't slept for days! Look at the dark circles around your eyes!" He said, nearly shouting
I gave him a confused look until he handed me a small mirror, and one thing greeted me when I saw my reflection. Eye bags. My eyes grew in disbelief as I leaned closer on my reflection. Jimin was right, I do have dark circles around my eyes
"Aish..." I muttered, handing back his mirror back and running a hand to my face, groaning
"I've been having a hard time sleeping lately, and I don't know why" I huffed, "But don't worry, I could always hide it with make-up. And probably drink some coffee to reenergize myself" I added and grinned like an idiot, despite the fact that I'm so sleepy
Jimin rolled his eyes, "Jinjja? (Seriously?)" He sarcastically said, "Whatever you say, hyung. But it's better if you get some rest" He insisted, patting my shoulder
"There's still nearly half an hour left before we reach the airport. It's best that you should get some sleep in the mean time. I'll wake you up when we arrive" He added, smiling brightly and reassuringly at me before seating back down to his seat
My grin dropped and a sigh escaped my lips before leaning my head back onto the window beside me. I looked out the window as I think about Jimin's suggestion
Well it would be the best thing to do, I thought
But when I was trying to get cozy in my seat, something beside our minibus (that's near to my window) caught my attention. It was a female, riding a badass motorcycle while driving with the same speed of our minibus. And with the rare sight, I could feel my sleepiness gradually lessen as I gawked at the female motorcyclist
A smile played on my lips as I watched, "A female motorcyclist isn't something you could see everyday" I murmured to myself with a chuckle, amused by my own words
The female wore a helmet that matched with the color of her motorcycle, and has her hair flying off her shoulders to her back, flowing by the wind. Her taste of fashion is quite boyish for her feminine figure; black high topped sneakers, ripped jeans, a long sleeved black long tee under her short sleeved white long tee and wore a pair of fingerless gloves, but she looked great on them
"She looks so badass" I mumbled to myself
Then the female motorcyclist rolled her fingers onto the handgrip, and turned it after gaining a firm grip. She then zoomed out of my sight, leaving me to think on who could that person be
She looks quite cool.... and interesting...
