The Morning Jog

Arnav entered his bedroom after returning from his morning jog and was attacked by his three years old twins who hugged each of his legs and sat down on his feet. He looked down in confusion as to what kind of new game was this.

Arnav - Good morning sweeties.

Arshi, Aarushi - Goooood moning. NO!

He frowned and chuckled waiting for them to free him but they weren't leaving his legs. So he turned to the person he knew could explain their behaviour.

Arnav - Khushi-

Khushi - You promised them something last night.

She entered from the poolside holding their cuddly toys they'd thrown around and kept them on the bed.

Arnav pondered and remembered it all. He had been late for his jogging yesterday, so at the time he returned they were up and bombarded him with their questions about where he was and why he goes jogging etc. He'd replied it keeps him fit and healthy. So they insisted they''ll be coming along with him next day. At night they didn't forget it and made him promise he'll wake them up and take them. But of course he didn't wake his little sleeping beauties.

Arnav - Ok...so that's why they are wishing me a good morning, not.

They flared their noses looking up at him.

Khushi - They woke up and asked straightaway where you were.

Arnav - So you both really wanted to go jogging?

Arshi, Aarushi - Yeeesh!!!

Khushi looked at him nodding in denial. But he couldn't break his promise.

Arnav - Ok, tomorrow. I promise I will wake you up and take you both on jogging.

They looked at each other and got off his feet standing. They pouted their lips looking up at him.

Aarushi - Pomish?

He pecked their pouts nodding. This was their way to seal promises ever since they got curious about him and Khushi kissing and asked why they kissed each other. Khushi of course was shy and said they were sealing their promise with a kiss. Since then all of their promises are always sealed with a kiss on the lips.

Arnav - I pomish!

Arshi - You beak pomish, then I mad.

Arshi shows him her big round eyes, trying to scare him. While Aarushi used the tactic her mother uses. Blackmailing.

Aarushi - And you beak pomish, no kissh.

Khushi kept his clothes and a fresh towel on the bed and giggled at her twins' threats.

Arnav - Wow. This time it's quite serious. I better not break my promise.

Khushi - Yes. Else you'll see Choti Laad Governor's wrath and have a lifetime ban on kissing your Barbie doll.

They laughed at their Mumma but stopped as they looked back at him with seriousness. He chuckled and nodded in denial progressing towards the bathroom for a shower.

So next day Arnav got up at 7 O'clock and woke up his angry birds who were cranky and took their own sweet time to open their eyes. He changed them into their sportswear.

Arshi was dressed up in a black printed yoga pants and a blue t-shirt. Arshi would mostly wear everything they got for her unless it was ugly and she disliked it.

But Aarushi was a diva. She wouldn't wear anything that wasn't approved by her. Her wardrobe looked like the inside of a unicorn. All pink and glitter. She was all set to leave in a pink shorts with a glitter motive of Barbie and a white t-shirt which had "Barbie" written on it. Additionally she had him do her hair in a ponytail so she could wear her pink baseball cap which matched her outfit and her pink shoes perfectly.

Arnav - So can we leave now?

He was already too late and his fashionable diva wasn't done admiring herself in the mirror.

Aarushi - No.

She ran to the sidetable of her bed and got her goggles out of the drawer.

Aarushi - Now.

Arnav suppressed his smile as he nodded at them. So after applying sun creams on them to protect them from cancer causing UV rays and making Arshi too wear a cap, he left with them.

He avoided streets and footpaths and took them rather to a nearby park where could run safely. And the term run was widely exaggerated. They had been doing everything else but jog. Sometimes they start running very fast and run out of breath within few minutes and take long breaks afterwards. Sometimes they chase dogs and even some people. Aarushi often stops to criticize and rant about the ugly clothes people are wearing.

Arnav - Aaru, baby, not everyone is as fashionable as you na.

Aarushi - I know.

She smirked turning away and then gasped in excitement. Without speaking anything she ran towards the ice cream stall standing in the park. He held Arshi and went behind.

Aarushi - Eish keem!

Arnav - Aaru, wait!

Aarushi - DADDY, EISH KEEM!

She jumped enthusiastically standing under the stall. Arshi too smiled wide but looked around. The stall was there but no man to sell it.

Arnav - Aarushi, doll, it's 8 in the morning. It's just the stall here. There's no ice cream inside. And the seller is also not here.

They both frowned and walked around the stall.

Aarushi then sighed keeping her hands on her hips and shouted from the top of her voice.

Aarushi - EISH KEEM MAN, EISH KEEM MAN, EISH KEEM MAN.

He looked around embarrassed for a minute and carried her keeping his hand on her mouth.

Arnav - What are you doing?

Aarushi - I call eish keem sheelah. (Seller)

Arnav - He isn't here. At home we have a lot of ice cream. So let's go back?

She thought for a second and then nodded thinning her lips. He kept her down and then widened his eyes not finding Arshi at the spot. He immediately turned around and saw her running behind a dog.

Arshi - Doggy, doggy. Shtop. I good. Doggy.

He held Aarushi's hand and took fast steps to reach his naive and innocent daughter running behind a street dog who could probably be dangerous.

Arnav - Arshi, stop it baby. Stop chasing the dog.

He catched her arm and held both in his hands so they can't just run away.

Arshi - Shweet dog. I give eish keem.

He looked at her adorable expression and nodded in denial.

Arnav - Ok, you both. The ice cream stall is empty. There isn't any ice cream. The seller will start selling ice cream probably around noon. And secondly, you can't just chase dogs. They could be dangerous and bite you.

He caressed their cheeks now cupping their faces with each of his hand.

Arshi - Bite? Then hurt?

Arnav - Yes. It hurts a lot. If you chase a dog, he won't like it and then bite you. You don't want to get bitten, do you?

She nodded in denial jerking.

Arnav - Good now let's go home.

Aarushi - No. We jog home.

She raised her eyes brow with a grin and looked at him for his reaction to the supposedly pun. He chuckled and kissed their hands nodding.

Arshi - Now leally jog. Sho we fit and heathy.

Arnav - Ok. But promise me, you won't run away from me. Not to any dog, not to any ice cream stall or anywhere. Promise?

They nod and then kiss his lips to seal the promise. He smiled and got up. They both then ran in front him with all of their energy.

The bell rang and Khushi rushed to open the door. She sighed in relief seeing Arnav and their twins. He had forgotten his phone home and she had been worried the whole time. They were two and he was just one. She feared the worst that could happen. But now seeing them home safe she was at peace.

She stepped away to let them in. Nani and Anjali sitting in the hall looked at Arnav smiling as he carried an exhausted Aarushi on his one arm and with his other held little Arshi.

Khushi carried Arshi and took off her cap. She blew air on her head and glanced at Aarushi. She was having her eyes closed and seemed exhausted. She flared her nose at her husband.

Khushi - How much did you make my babies run ha? Look at them! They are tired and drained. My poor daughters. You're so cruel. They are are just three years old and you took them on jogging!

He narrowed his eyes at her as the protective mother in her failed to see the act that Aarushi was pulling. She just ran for few minutes and knocked out. She had him carry her all the way home.

She threw her head back and let her arms loose acting to be having difficulties breathing.

Aarushi - Aaah...I die. Chocate...eish keem.

Everyone including Khushi realized it now. Nani and Anjali giggled at their foodie drama queen.

Aarushi - Choo...cate...

Khushi nodded in denial. Arshi laughed holding her mother.

Arshi - I too eish keem.

Khushi - No ice cream and chocolate before breakfast.

Aarushi groaned in discontent and took a long and loud sigh.

Aarushi - I diiiieee....

Khushi - Nautanki. It's time to bath you two. Then a glass of milk.

Aarushi - Then chocate?

Khushi - No. After breakfast maybe.

While Arshi stayed calm and composed, Aarushi intensified her drama.

Aarushi - Aaaaand Iiiiii...dead....

Khushi walked ahead smiling and went up carrying Arshi. Arnav followed with Aarushi and now blew on her cheek and tickled her. She broke out in laughter holding him.

Aarushi - I no dead I no dead I no dead.

Arnav - Better. How will I live without Barbie doll else?

Aarushi giggled and hugged his neck showing her Bua her teeth now.

Anjali and Nani stared them fondly from behind and admired the little family as they went upstairs with their dolls.
