Are you There?

We got back to Twinkie tower. Immediately, I pulled K/j/n aside.

"K/j/n? Are you there?" I asked.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about." She sobbed.

"Do you know who I am?" She shook her head, "Buttercup, come here for a sec," She did as told, looking at her mother, "Do you know who this is?"

"No, I don't know anything! Please, let me go!"

Through her tears I realized, she's gone... her shape, her fall, her winter snows, her gusty blows, her lava flow, her starry night, and her lack of light... her eyes full of twinkling lights that could be mistaken for fireflies... it's all gone...

"She's... she's gone..." Before saying anything else, I walked into the bathroom. Why'd it have to be her? I'm such an idiot! The idiot that had to fall for her...

I hadn't even realized the tears on my cheeks until I heard footsteps. Quickly, I wiped them away and left, just as Poison walked in. K/j/n quietly sat on the couch, back against the arm rest, knees to her chest as she messed with her white BLI shirt while Buttercup played with her toys.

"Hey K/j/n?" I asked, but got no response from her, "K/j/n?" Still no response, "K/j/n?" She looked up, realizing I was talking to her.

"Oh, are you talking to me? My name's Y/n. I'm not sure what a K/j/n is, but I don't think it's what I am." She spoke softly and tiredly from crying.

"Right, Y/n, do you remember anything at all?" I asked, taking a seat.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean by that..." I tried thinking of a way to tell her without sounding crazy, "Are you going to kill me?" Her eyes filled with tears again.

"No, no of course we aren't." I rested my hand on top of hers, but she pulled away, "Sorry..."

"Why am I here? Is it because of Brendon? Cause I don't know anything. He's not allowed to tell me what goes on at his work."

"No, you're here because we..." I tried coming up with an answer that wouldn't make me sound insane, "... you're here because we want you here."

"But you didn't even know my name." She said, confused.

"Oh I knew your name, you told me your name awhile ago." She gave me a confused look.

"You're strange, what's your name?" She had stopped crying and wiped the tears away.

"Fun Ghoul," I said.

"No, what's your real name?" She asked, bringing me back to that night in the kitchen.

"That... that's classified."

"Fine, Fun Ghoul-"

"My name is Buttercup!" Buttercup chimed in, joining us on the couch.

"Buttercup? That's so cute."

"Well, you picked it out for me mommy."

"What?"

"Hey look! It's Kobra!" I cried as he walked into the room.

"Wow, it's a dumb ass!" He sarcastically said, walking into the kitchen.

"Hey! No cursing! Buttercup's in the room. I have a nice idea, why don't you go play with Kobra for a bit?" I asked the little girl.

"But I wanna play with momma!"

"You can play with her later, but Kobra really wants to play with you!" I told her.

"Really!?" Her eyes went big, "Kobra! Come play with me!" She ran to him and took his hand, dragging him to her room.

"Is there anywhere else we can go in this place?" She asked.

"Well, the next story has Buttercups room," I thought for a moment, "We could go up to the roof."

"Sure, anywhere is better than this shitty old couch." She followed me up to the roof, we leaned on the edge, looking upon the desert horizon.

"I've never actually been up here before, it's nice." I said, looking around.

"That little girl in there, Buttercup?"

"Yeah, what about her?"

"She's adorable, is she yours?" She asked, it seemed as if she was warming up to me rather quickly. Like she knew me in another life, subconsciously already knowing I'm okay.

"No..."

"Well, you're really good with her. Who's is she?" She put her elbows on the ledge and rested her head in them.

"She's, a good friend of ours. Our friend isn't doing too well so we're watching her until she gets better."

"Ah, well, she's adorable. I've always wanted to have kids, but Brendon always thought it was a stupid idea. I wanted a little girl, I woulda named her Bonnabelle."

"Well, I've got some news for you," I hesitated before continuing, closing my eyes as if the next few words were going to hurt, "Buttercup is actually, your kid. Her real name is Bonnabelle."

"What!? No, that can't be possible, me and you?"

"No! No! You and Brendon." A blush found its way to my cheeks from the comment.

"No she's not. I don't know what's going through your head, but that's not possible."

"Pull down your sleeve, on your right arm." I said, thinking of the tattoo. She did as told, but there was nothing there.

"I don't know what that was for, but okay..." She looked at me strangely, "I think you boys have mistaken me for someone else. You keep saying that I'm this and I've done that but, this is my first time out in the desert. I've only ever seen your faces on wanted posters. Even then, I barely even looked at them. I just wanna go home." Tears began to sting her eyes again as the sun started to set.

"I'm sorry, but I know you're the right person."

"How do you know? This is the first time I've ever met you! Oh Brendon! He's probably missing me! I was supposed to go to lunch with him! You ruined that! I was-" She sobbed, "I was happy..."

"You'll be happier here."

"No I won't! How am I supposed to believe that when you're telling me things about myself that aren't true!?"

"I can't..." I hung my head low so she wouldn't see my own tears, "... I can't do this anymore, I'm going inside. You probably should too." Without another word, I was back on the bathroom floor, sobbing my problems away. Then Buttercup walked in.

"Ghoul...?" She nervously asked.

"Yes, Buttercup?"

"Are you okay?" She walked over and gazed at me with a sad look upon her face.

"Not really." I answered, honestly.

"When I'm sad, momma usually gives me a hug and kiss. Do you want a hug? I won't kiss you though, that's weird." I chuckled.

"Sure, kid," I held my arms out and she ran into them, "You're a good kid. Your momma would be proud of you."

"Why is she acting so weird?" She pulled away, eyes on me.

"She's sick, pumpkin. She doesn't remember who you are."

"She doesn't!? Why not!?"

"Because she's sick, the bad guys got her, and now she doesn't remember anything."

"Are you gonna save her?" She asked, hope filled her eyes.

"I'll do my best, Buttercup."

"Yay!" She hugged me again, just as the door opened.

"Found ya!" Kobra cried, then realized what was going on, "Oh sorry, we were playing hide and seek."

"Oh yeah! Kobra is so good at hide and seek! Last time, he was hiding under the dinning room table, and I didn't even see him!"

"Wow, sounds like you two have been having fun."

"Yeah, I guess so," Kobra chuckled, "How's everything with K/j/n?"

"Not very good."

"Momma's sick! The bad guys got her sick!" Buttercup explained, "She doesn't remember me! Or you! Or Ghoul! Or Jet! Or even Poison!"

"Oh wow, that's awful. Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Not really, I have no idea how I'm gonna get her back." I honestly told him.

"But you're gonna get her back! You said you would!" Buttercup cried.

"Well, I'll try my best sweetheart," I looked up at Kobra, "All of us will."

"Where is she, anyways?" He asked.

"We hung out on the roof for a little bit then I came down, but told her she should too. So, I'm not sure if she came inside or not."

"I think Jet is making some food so we should probably find her."

"Yeah, that's a good idea." I got up from the bathroom floor, Kobra, Buttercup, and I walked out. K/j/n was standing against the wall just outside.

"Found her!" Buttercup cried, looking up at her mom.

"Good job, kid!" Her and Kobra ran off.

"Hey, I'm sorry about what I said on the roof," I told her, "I shouldn't have said all that."

"Why did you say those things?"

"I guess I haven't given a straight answer, huh? Well, this is gonna sound insane. Probably. But, you uhh, lost your memory."

"Then how come I remember my life with Brendon?"

"I think he put those memories there."

"I don't think my husband would do that, he loves me." With that, she walked away. I'll save her... I've got to save her...
