Chapter 23- Secret Plans

I decided that Sparrow would visit Malcolm Merlyn earlier than planned.

Not only had the Black Archer taken Walter, but he had also taken my father. And I had not forgotten about that.

After securing my left shoulder with bandages, I strapped on my swords and pulled on my assassin's uniform and decided to pay Malcolm a little visit while he recovered at home.

I scoped out the building and climbed up the side of the brick walls and dove onto a balcony. I smoothly stepped through the door and closed it again. Felicity had bought me a window of time where the security alarms would be disabled. I didn't tell her what I was doing exactly, only that I needed to get into the house undetected and I needed to see Malcolm.

He lay sleeping in his bed.

I stepped towards him silently and covered his mouth with a rag coated in a chemical that would make him sleep.

He struggled for a moment, but I had him pinned.

Once he was unconscious, I dragged him out of the bed and tied him to a chair in the center of the room. I checked him for weapons and after finding none, secured the door. No one would interrupt us.

I stood in front of him, watching. His hands were secured in front of him on the arms of the chair. He wasn't breaking out easily. His ankles were bound as well.

When he finally came to, he groaned and looked up. He blinked a few times, then recoiled.

"You." He snarled. "What are you doing here?"

"What I should have done quite some time ago. You're going back to Ra's al Ghul. I don't care if I have to torture you to find the answers to my next questions." I growled.

"What do you want to know? You'll have to try extra hard."

"I would obey my commands, Merlyn, because if you don't, Tommy could get hurt." I warned.

"You wouldn't hurt him." He said, desperation in his voice. "You wouldn't. You care for him. You're his friend!"

"Yes. That is true. But you know how important the League is to me, Merlyn. And my uncle is regretting letting you go. Now. We can do this one or two ways. You give me what I want and I return you to Ra's al Ghul simply and no one gets hurt. Or, I can tell him all about Tempest. You know that kind of murder is against our code. That alone would ensure your death to be a lot slower and far more painful. So. What will it be, Malcolm?"

"How do you know about Tempest? Did you hurt Moira? If you-"

"I didn't hurt her. She came to me."

"You revealed yourself?" He asked, aghast.

"I do as I please." I said angrily.

"You're braver than you look, Sparrow, I'll give you that much."

"I guess that's why my uncle chose me for this position and not you." I say dryly. I pointed a sword at his face. "Now. Have you made your decision? Will you cooperate?"

He glared at me in hatred. "Fine."

"I want my father and Walter Steel back."

He paused. "You think I have your father?" He seemed very amused. "I may have the resources and means to take him, but that wasn't me."

"Your renegades' arrows were on the scene." I snarled and pressed the tip of the blade to his cheek. "There was a note signed by you."

"Anyone can forge a signature, Sparrow. It doesn't mean that it was me. You can even check for yourself. Go on. Torture me. You know I may be a deceiver, but I swear to you that I am telling the truth. I only lie if it benefits me. You clearly have the upper hand here. Lying would only make my time in this chair more painful."

I clenched my jaw. "Then who took him?"

"I don't know. Why don't you ask your uncle? If it was a member of the League, he would definitely know." He said through gritted teeth.

"Tell me where Walter is." I snarled.

He stared at me evenly and then said, "In a safe house that's guarded on almost every possible entry point." He paused and looked at me a bit nervously. "And what are you going to do with the knowledge of Tempest?"

I glared at him in hatred. "Call it off and Ra's al Ghul learns nothing of your involvement and planning."

He clenched his jaw. "No. I won't call it off. The people of the Glades deserve to be punished."

I stared at him evenly. "That is a shame that you feel this way, Merlyn. I can't wait for when my order to return you alive to Ra's al Ghul turns into returning only your head in a box."

I returned to the hideout and ignored the questions asked about where I had been.

"Mia you have broken bones and torn muscles! Why aren't you resting your arm?" Felicity asked, standing from her office chair at the computers.

"Because I have things to do. Important things. Things that are matters of life and death. Literally." I say tensely.

She frowned. "What are you talking about?"

I sighed. "I trust you know about what I am? Who I am associated with?"

"That your uncle is the Head of an ancient League of Assassins and you're one of them. Yes. I know." She says with a nod.

Oliver stood with Diggle, watching us. He didn't say anything.

"I came back to Starling with a job. I have to kill the renegades that left the League after Malcom Merlyn left. Malcolm Merlyn is the Black Archer that Oliver stupidly went after last Christmas." I said with a pointed glare at him. "The renegades are all dead now, so that part is finished. Now I have to keep him alive. At the benefit, a hit was put on him. I figured out why and by who. That's where I've been the past several days."

"Why didn't you tell us? You can trust us." Oliver says.

"We're a team. Teams don't do things behind each other's backs." Dig says.

I sighed and said, "I know. But, Oliver, what I found out is going to shock you. Probably not in a good way."

He furrowed his eyebrows but merely nodded and said, "What is it?"

"Remember when Thea was worried your mother and Malcolm were having an affair? They weren't. They were organizing something called Tempest."

"Tempest? I know that name. Walter wanted me to look into it. Asked me to while at Queen Consolidated." Felicity said. "But what does that have to do with Moira?"

Oliver's expression was hard to read, but he nodded for me to continue.

"While at the benefit, I left earlier than you all. I broke into the security cams. Saw the Triad. Warned you all. Then I began looking. I saw Tommy, and I saw Moira with a Chinese gentleman. She looked scared. Kept looking between Tommy and Malcolm. I didn't understand why, so after leaving the hospital, I went to her. I spoke with her and told her I knew about Walter missing and that's when she told me everything. She was panicked. Scared. Said she needed my help."

I let out a slow breath and said, "Tempest is a plan that started with the sinking of the Gambit. Us. We were supposed to have died on that boat, Olly. But we didn't. The Gambit was sabotaged at the same moment the storm hit so it would look like an accident. Tempest was designed by Malcolm with the help of Moira. Malcolm took the bio tech from Queen Consolidated and is using it to make a bioweapon that will destroy the Glades with earthquake technology.

"Moira had no choice in the matter. He threatened Thea, you, Oliver, and he killed Robert. Then he kidnapped Walter when he started getting close to Tempest. Oliver, Malcolm and your parents and a few others were the ones who orchestrated the List."

Oliver's face went pale and he sank into a chair.

"Oh...wow." Felicity mumbled.

I felt my heart break at the look on Oliver's face. I dropped my weapons onto the table and slipped painfully out of the jacket. I gingerly slipped my arm into the sling and tightened it at my other shoulder.

I made my way carefully over to him and kneeled on the floor in front of him. I lifted my hand to his cheek and he looked at me. His eyes were filled with grief, but I knew he wouldn't cry. Not here. Not in front of anyone else.

"What do you need?" I whispered softly, concern coursing through me.

"Some time." He said after a moment of silence. I pulled my hand back and he caught it almost immediately. "Not from you."

I nodded. "Alright."

"When is he supposed to enact Tempest? Is it any time soon? Because we should probably start looking for this machine." Felicity said and stepped forward to rest a hand on the back of Oliver's chair, trying to give him any more support that she could.

"My best guess is very soon. But we should first get Walter. He's our first priority." I say with a nod.

"Then let's get Walter." Oliver said stiffly.
