xXx Max POV xXx

"Psst, Max wake up!" Iggy whispered, "It's your turn to take watch" 

Uhhgg, I shift myself so I am sitting upright.

"I'm up, go to sleep Iggy," I say, holding back a yawn. I look around to see everybody is asleep but Iggy and I. He (Iggy) lays down and soon I hear soft snoring. I stretch out my wings and pick some dirt out of the feathers. I hear a shuffling of feet from above me and look up. To see the ceiling, I internally scoff at myself then head towards the stairs. Careful not to wake any of my flock I maneuver around each one until I reach Angel and Gazzy. I smile softly. Angel is clutching Celeste to her chest and curled by Gazzy, who has his arms wrapped protectively around her. I cautiously step over them and stop at the stairs. I listen and hear it again, someone is awake up there. I take a look at the old, worn out stairs and estimate that they all squeak, it's too narrow to fly up so I don't really have a choice. I'd be way too loud and clumsy if I shifted into a  wolf so I pad lightly up the steps. The first and second don't squeak, but the third emits a soft creek as I step on it. I stop and listen, but it doesn't seem that they heard. I shuffle up the next couple steps without a sound and hop onto the floor. I see one of the wolves there. I don't know who though, Emmy? Emby? Ohh, Embry!

xXx Embry POV xXx

I hear a soft creek, but I'm pretty sure it's just the guys messing around in the other room. I think about the new kids that we saw. Why did the leeches attack them?  I think back to the meeting we had with Sam, 

*Flashback*

We are all sitting at around the dining room table waiting for Sam and Emily to arrive. I don't really know what to think about them, would we be able to take them down if they become a threat to the humans? The human girl didn't seem to mind running after the oldest. They don't seem to be aggressive but they can fight really well. They are just kids,  the youngest can't be more than seven. I get jolted out of my thoughts by the door opening and Sam walking in with Emily behind him. 

"I don't want them here, we should get rid of them," Paul announces. Seth, Leah, and Jake growl in response. Paul shrugs and says,

"It's true." Leah stands up at that.

"Enough" Sam commands. Leah sits down and Paul bows his head a little. 

"We are going to watch them tonight and we will speak with the elders tomorrow. Jared take first watch, then Embry. I am going to bed. Goodnight." 

*End of Flashback*

I watch as he seems to be in thought and I creep down the stairs, skipping the third. I wake Fang for his watch and tell him what the noise was in case he heard it too. I lay down and let darkness sucumb me.
