A Toast
A toast, to all the people I ever did know
The ones that I loved and the ones I let go
A toast to all the strangers on the street
It's such a shame that we never did meet
A toast to the writers who toil at night
May joy come to you with morning's light
And for the fire in the furnace that brightly glows
Here's a toast to the lovers in the winter's snow
A toast to the man that lost his wife
At least you know she lived a good life
A toast to the mothers that lost a son
Into God's loving arms, they have all gone
A toast even, to the grown and the old
Your memories won't rust for they are like gold
A toast to the earth, and to the places I've been
To the sounds I have heard and the things I have seen
One day I will die and give up my ghost
But before I leave, here is one final toast !
