Jasper Hale- Listen (h)

Life was never going to be simple, and it would only be seen as naïve to assume that it could be.

A part of you wished that things would never be difficult however your husband didn't exactly have a knack for making things easy.

You were aware of Jasper not being human, and the fact that his family weren't human, but you had still decided to be with him.

At the start of your relationship Jasper was worried that once you found out you wouldn't want to be with him anymore, which couldn't have been farther from the truth.

Eight years of being together later, you would never have changed him for anything.

One thing that you struggled with was no longer being with your family.

They didn't approve of Jasper, they believed that he would leave you sooner or later and that he wouldn't stay faithful – of course those things hurt to hear, but you trusted Jasper and knew that he loved you.

In the mail you had received an invitation to the christening of your brother's daughter, and he had also asked Jasper to come along as your brother knew you wouldn't go without him.

You'd mentioned it to Jasper and he was willing to go, because at the end of the day he would endure through a family event for you even if it meant daggers being stared at him the whole time.

For the past hour you had been holed up in the room you shared with Jasper – trying not to break down into tears, but ultimately failing.

You looked up as the door opened before Jasper walked in.

"Darling...why are you crying?"

You sighed, looking down at the bedsheets rather than at your husband.

"Don't shut me out."

Jasper came to sit down next to you and then placed his hand on your thigh.

You moved your hand to rest on top of his.

"My Mum called me, she found out about my brother sending us the invite and she told me that if I show up with or without you, she will call and cancel the whole event."

"How can she do that?"

You shrugged. "Apparently she planned the whole thing and so she can cancel it if she wants to."

"She wouldn't stoop that low."

"You underestimate my mother."

Jasper pulled you into his arms. "Is this what got you so upset?"

"I just never thought she'd go to those kinds of lengths just to make me not go somewhere – especially at my niece's christening."

"I'm sorry Darling."

You looked up at him with confusion on your face. "Why are you apologising? You're not my mother."

He chuckled at your words. "Because they shut you out as a result of us staying together."

You shook your head in disagreement. "Jas, my mother is the one that can't deal with it and my Dad lets her get to him, so he'll listen to her," you explained to him. "My brother is his own man, hence him inviting me to the christening, but my sisters always have listening to my Mum."

Jasper sighed but pressed a kiss to the top of your head. "We're going to that christening right?"

You laughed. "Oh of course we are," you stated causing him to smile. "And we're bringing a whole load of presents for my little niece."

"That's my girl."
