Chapter 7: Jacob Black

(Fast forwarding to Monday at school...)

"Please pass all of your quizzes towards the front of the classroom!" said our math teacher, Ms. Berry.

I already know I might have failed today's quiz. I didn't study at all this weekend except for Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Every since that incident in the woods Saturday night, I haven't done nothing. I barely ate...I was still terrified and each night I would dream of the monster that approached in front of me. It caused for me to have nightmares, like really bad ones. I didn't want to tell anyone the story yet. The only person that knows is my dad and well, he thinks I'm going bananas and says monsters aren't real. I knew what I saw in those woods Saturday night. I just have to figure out what it was and get a better view of it with more light.

The bell rings and its now time for sixth period lunch. I left algebra class and made my way down the crowded halls to the cafeteria. After I got my tray, I sat at the table with Caroline and her friends.

"Hey, Grace!" Caroline smiled.

I smiled back. "Hey!"

"Have you been ignoring me on purpose?"

I looked at her confused, "What are you talking about?"

"I sent you like five texts over the weekend. You havent replied to any of them!" she replied, pulling out her blackberry phone.

"That's because I lost my phone in the woods Saturday night."

"What the hell were you doing in the woods Saturday night, Grace?" asked Noah, one of Caroline's friends.

I looked down, "Looking for my brother Conner."

Caroline gasped, "Oh my gosh, he went missing?! Is he okay, Grace??"

"Yeah, is he?" asked Mike Angelo, one of Caroline's friends.

I tilt my head back up with a nod and smiled, "Yeah he's totally fine. Turns out he was home after all and got there once I left looking for him."

"What about your phone?" Caroline asked.

"My dad is going to order me another one offline!"

"Good."

I started thinking about the creature again that I had saw Saturday night and stared down at my lunch tray. Caroline could easily tell something was bugging me by the weird expression that was splattered across my face. She reached her hand over the table and place it over mines.

"Hey, you okay?" she asked, worried.

I didn't reply.

She squinted her eyes. "What else happened that night? I know there's something else your not telling me Grace!"

I looked at Caroline, then shifted my eyes over to Mike and Noah. "Can all three of you keep a secret?"

Noah was the first to reply, "Of course! You can always count on me Grace."

Mike Angelo nodded, "Yeah, totally!"

Caroline gave me a smile, so I knew by that she means yes. I began telling them the story of why I was looking for Conner and how I came inside the woods which led to me dropping the cell phone and meeting the monster. When I started describing the monster all of their eyes had widen. They were wide as the size of tennis balls. Then I explained how my dad came and the monster quickly vanished.

"After it vanished, my dad took us home and I stayed in my room the whole night without eating or sleeping. I was still terrified and had a few nightmares..." I said, ending the story.

Caroline covered her whole mouth with both of her hands. Not a peep was heard from her. But Noah and Mike Angelo on the other hand had billions of questions to ask me.

"What did your dad do?" asked, Noah. "Did he like get a gun or something??"

"Did the monster have large teeth? Did it try to kill you??" asked, Mike.

I looked down with a small frown. "To be honest, I don't quite remember the monster trying to kill me at all. It just stood there in front of me growling...not making any movements just staring. The only thing I do remember seeing is it's dark brown eyes."

Caroline lift an eye brow, "Are you sure you didn't hit your head on a rock while you fell?"

I looked at Caroline, "You think I'm crazy don't you?"

"Im sorry Grace but... I'm with your dad on this. There's no such thing as monsters. Maybe your dad should have taken you to the hospital."

My eyes were filled up with a tiny bit of hurt. "So, you do think I'm crazy?"

Noah sat looking at me and Caroline both with an awkward silence. Mike decided to break the small argument between us and could easily see that I was hurt of Caroline not trusting me and calling me crazy.

"How about we all calm down okay? Grace, I don't think your're crazy. What ever you saw in those woods Saturday could have been an animal. Forks do have mountain lions!" said, Mike Angelo.

Noah nodded with a small smile. "Yeah, they come around sometimes. Not too many are here though...''

Mike started smiling also, "The good thing is that your'e not hurt."

"So, don't call her crazy Caroline!" frowned Noah. "What she saw could have been true!"

Caroline rolled her eyes and got up, "I have to go. Lunch is almost over and I have a math quiz to take next period in Ms. Berry class. I should use my last few minutes of lunch to study!"

Mike waved, "See you later!"

Noah stick his tongue at her and moved to Caroline's empty chair that sits in front of me. He made a smile.

"Don't listen to her Grace. Me and Mike both believe you on this. Caroline will come around eventually and apologize."

Mike nodded and smiled as well. "Yeah, so relax."

I smiled giving them a tiny chuckle. "Thanks, I can always count on you both for good advice."

Noah laughed, "What are friends for?"

"Right."

------------------------------------------------------

(End of school day...)

School was finally out and I couldn't wait to leave. Today I was invited to Bella's house by her father. I guess she told him all about me and now the guy wants to meet me. Which isn't bad I'm assuming. My dad said I can go and figured spending time with a friend could keep my mind of those nightmares I've been having lately. I walked in the parking lot and met Bella at her Chevrolet pickup truck. Her boyfriend Edward stood closely beside her. They had stopped kissing once one of them spotted me coming.

"Hello cute couple!" I smiled.

I could see Bella's cheeks turn a nice red as Edward laughed.

"Hello, Grace! I guess Ill leave Bella with you now." He says, starting to walk off.

I nodded and watched Bella wave him good bye. He was on his way to his shinning black car. The car that almost ran me over on my first day at Forks High School. Yep, that's something to always remember.

"So, straight to your house right?" I asked.

She nodded with a smile, "Yeah, like I said before my dad really wants to meet you. He's so excited that i have finally met a girl best friend!"

I laughed, "Cool!"

Just as we were about to get inside her truck, we both paused after hearing someone yell. Someone was yelling Bella's name from a distance. I looked straight ahead and saw some dude parking his motor bike next to a white car in the school's parking lot. Bella seems to know this guy because I can see a large smile spread across her face. She closed her truck door shut and raced over to give the guy a hug. I was left behind feeling strange and I had no clue what to do. Should I go over and follow by introducing myself or just stay here? I think staying here is fine.

The two were talking and laughing for a few minutes. I noticed Bella had turned her head at me and waved for me to come over. Great, just great. She wanted me to meet this guy. Why not I guess?

"Hey, this is my new friend Grace!" she introduced with a smile.

I came and stood beside Bella looking down shy. The guy made a slight chuckle and extended out his hand.

"Hi, I'm Jacob!"

I finally looked up noticing his hand and taking mines into his. I then met my eyes with his dark brown ones and that's when everything had stopped. I felt like I was floating in mid air and things around us were slowing down. He was so handsome with his russet colored skin and short black hair. I couldn't help to but stare. I was admiring him and his now smiling face.

"Um..yeah, you can let go of my hand now" he said.

I finally had let go of his hand clearing my throat. I felt sort of dumb there and looked down shyly once more.

"S-sorry, its nice meeting you Jacob!"

He smiled again, "Please, call me Jake. That's what most of my friends call me!"

I nodded with a chuckle and a tiny blush, "Okay."

Bella stood quietly looking at the both of us with a wide smirk. Jacob probably knew what she was thinking about and rolled his eyes.

"So, where are you two ladies headed?" he asked.

Bella started walking back to her truck. "To my house, come on Grace! I'm sure my dad is still waiting and probably irritated since we're taking forever."

I nodded and followed behind her. Jacob took a few steps after us.

"Mind if I can come over too?"

Bella turned around with another wide smirk. "No thank you Jacob. I'm sure you can talk to Grace some other time!"

"Very funny, Bells!"

He rolled his eyes after I giggled quietly, hoping neither of them had heard me. Jacob was very funny indeed. I would like to see him again. Maybe Bella can tell me more about him once we get to her place.

When we got inside the truck, Bella stuck her key inside the ignition and drove off pass Jacob. I looked at him through my side window and saw him wave. I waved back and made that same shy smile. Bella happened to notice and chuckled.

"See's someone has a small crush."

I rolled my eyes at her, "Dint be so ridiculous Bella!"

She laughed while turning the wheel. "Hey, your making it obvious not me!"

"Whatever."

Bella laughed once more. I already told Bella and Caroline both that  wasn't going to be interested in guys right now. My main focus is to work hard in school and get the grades I want. Besides, I doubt Jacob is feeling the same as me. Probably thinks I'm some kind of strange girl. I mean come on, I wouldn't even let go of his hand...HIS HAND! Let's just say I suck at flirting -_-I
